Intro
The Games basic loop sees you looting the tomb for treasure and finding evidence, then trying to escape with the relic once the Big Bad Mejai has assumed physical form to hunt you down. Every Mejai will kill you in one shot, unlike the minions and traps in the tomb. Some of them are more overwhelming to deal with than others.
Rathos, The Damned
Rathos got a HUGE rework in 0.5! So here's what you need to know: Rathos is a stalker type enemy, he will peruse you throughout the Tomb. If that sounds stressful, it's because it is, but don't fret. Rathos fears fire. Swinging your torch will make him leap back, creating distance.

Occasionally, Rathos will roar, putting out nearby flames. Rathos will only kill you if you are not carrying a lit torch. The roars provide a chance to make some distance and search for the lever however. In multiplayer, it is recommended to have someone keep Rathos at bay whilst the others look for the lever.

When Rathos is warded off enough times, he will turn Golden. This is his 'enraged' state. He is faster, roars more often, and has a tendency to sprint at you after he puts out your torch. He is still afraid of fire, but it requires far more effort to keep him at bay. Stay vigilant, and avoid cornering yourself. If he roars, and you have no space to make distance and relight your torch, you're kinda boned.

Necreph, The Shadow
Necryph holds a special place in my heart for being the creepiest of all the mejai. Constantly shrouded in darkness, and always accompanied by the sound of rattling chains, he definitely has the most potential to scare or frustrate new players who are trying to get a grasp on his mechanics.

First and foremost ABSOLUTELY NO LIGHTS. This means no flashlights, no torches, no headlamp. The ONLY light source Necryph seems to ignore is the lighter, and that's not very helpful for getting around a tomb whilst evading an ever-present hunter. Your saving grace will be TABLET 2, which gives the tablet Night Vision mode and lets you see your way around in the dark without angering Necryph.

[AS OF 0.5] If you stare at Necryph too long he WILL charge at you and kill you. Avoid looking at Necryph for too long, keep your gaze at the floor and walls, but don't be afraid to check where he is if you NEED to. Quick glances should be fine, just don't gawk at him.

Necryph most dangerous power is his teleportation. He does not walk around the tomb, he teleports from spot to spot. If you have ever seen the old Slenderman games, think along those lines. Necryph moves around the tomb with a vague idea of where you are, but never an exact picture. HOWEVER, through testing I have found that Necryph becomes more and more accurate the longer you stay in one spot. This means if you try to hide for too long, he will find you eventually. You can always tell when he teleports somewhere now thanks to a puff of smoke.

Talgor, The Perilous
People seem to struggle with Talgor the most out of the mummies, and that is precisely because Talgor is at his most dangerous when you DON'T see him.

Talgor is 100% invisible. You cannot see him at all without the help of the tablet, and you cannot use your night vision mode on the tablet either, as Talgor interrupts the night vision. On the tablet, he is incredibly hard to spot for new players, he is essentially this large, walking black cloud. It can take a moment for you to differentiate between the darkness and Talgor himself, he blends in very well with the dark fog at the edge of your lights range.

[AS OF 0.5] When you are VERY close to Talgor, your screen will begin to turn grey. This, on top of the sound he emits, is the best warning sign you have before he catches you unaware.

Talgors ai is simple, like Rathos and Ouphris, he will hunt around the tomb until he spots an archaeologist, then he will pursue them until he loses sight of them, OR the archeaologist exploit his weakness.

Talgors weakness is incredibly interesting: Its speech and Sound. You have to speak at him to make him stop in his track. AS OF [0.5] THE RADIO WORKS FOR THIS TOO.. How loud you have to be and how far away from you he will stop when you are speaking seems to be affected by difficulty, but always try to get him to stop on the edge of a hallway so you can squeeze past him.

If you don't see Talgor, here are my best tips so you don't kill yourself running around a corner:
  • Listen closely to the enviroment. Talgor constantly emits a strange sound, much akin to damned souls screaming, and it only gets louder the closer he gets to you. When you hear this sound, check around constantly to make sure he isn't behind you.
  • Take corners SLOWLY. This tip technically applies to all of the Mejai, but its especially important for Mejai like Talgor and Rathos. You do not want to bump directly into Talgor.
  • Use your Headlamp and Tablet to watch for him, and your Torch as a warning sign. Talgor abosrbs flames into his body, giving a clear indicator of where he is, so while Torches are not useful for lighting, they are a godsend as an early warning sign for Talgor
  • Night Vision is useless. Use the regular mode of the tablet.
  • Talgor can't see 360. If you see him walk down one hall, you can peak out to see if he has turned around. If he hasn't you can walk the way he came from. No need to worry. In fact, unless you are basically in front of him, Talgor won't catch you out of the corner of his eye. This doesn't mean you can easily hide, however.

Reccomended Equipment
Tablet (Don't use Night vision)
Flashlight (so you can see with the tablet)
Torch & Lighter (So you know when he's nearby)
A Good set of Lungs (So you can scream long enough to get away from him.
Dekan, The Lost
Ahhh Dekan, glorious Dekan. He feels by far like the most fair mummy to fight in the game. He stomps around the tomb like a giant blind bear, and just like a bear he can and will rip you limb from limb if he finds you.

Dekans whole gimmick is that he is blind, but his hearing is pinpoint. The devs were really thorough with this, so I will just give you a list of things I have found that will alert Dekan.

Things Dekan can hear
  • Running
  • Talking
  • Using the global chat (He'll head for the person talking through the radio, not the recipient. He won't immediately aggro however, he'll just change his patrol pattern.)
  • Flicking your flashlight on or off next to him
  • Your torch flickering (Needs more testing)
  • The Geiger Counter
  • The Metal Detector
  • Snapping a picture
  • Opening a sarcophogus (including the one where you get the relic, grab it fast or Dekan will spawn and hear you!)
  • The Radio

So yeah, Dekan can hear very well, and you better be sure you don't have anything in your pockets that's making noise. However, this hearing is also his greatest weakness. He'll always charge towards something when he hears the noise, making him easily distracted. When he has aggroed onto something (or someone) he will let out a bloodcurdling roar before charging towards the source.

If he's angry at you, if you have a radio you can turn it on and drop it to escape, but this doesn't always guarantee safety. The moment he breaks the radio you have to stop making noise.

Everyone probably already assumes immediately they can use the radio to distract Dekan, however, I found a second tool thats just as useful: The Geiger Counter. See, Dekan gives off a radioactive signal. Whenever he walks over a geiger counter, it will start clicking, and he will roar and attack it. This makes him stop in place for a second, AND gives you a clear idea of where he is if you can't hear his very loud footsteps.

I usually place the Geiger counter next to the radio, so after Dekan runs to the radio to destroy it, he stops for another moment to destroy the geiger counter. Or, if there is a really long narrow hallway, I will place the geiger counter near one of the ends of the hall so I know when Dekan is going down that hall.

Overall, Patience is you best friend in dealing with Dekan, if you die to him, it is most likely because you got impatient or greedy.

Just know, when you hear his roar it isn't over, if you are quick and clever, you can sneak around a corner or duck into a hiding spot and hope he turns around after he reaches the place he last heard you.

Ataimon, The Abominable
The newest addition to the pack so far, Ataimon is a horrific mass of flesh with a gaping maw on his chest. He's not all that difficult to run away from, as you can blind him to stun him. However, his stuns come at a cost, for each time he is stunned he will summon 1-3 abominations to chase you down, forcing you to pull out your torch to deal with them, which can be a problem if both the abominations he summons and Ataimon corner you together.

  • You need to aim the flashlight at him, specifically at one of his eyes. It seems to be most useful to save yourself if you are cornered. You should hear a burning sound overtime as you keep your light on him.
  • When he is stunned, he will summon monsters to hunt you down.
  • After being stunned, there seems to be a window where he is invulnerable to this stun, how long this is is uncertain so use your chance to escape wisely.
  • He can see you from quite a ways away. Try to avoid long hallways.
  • He is a little faster than the players sprinting speed. You'll eventually need to ward him off.

Recommended Equipment
A flashlight to stun Ataimon, and a torch to ward off his minions.
Ouphris, the Forgotten
And the last on our list is poor, poor Ouphris. Conceptually he is the coolest mummy for multiplayer. A monster that mimics your friends? That sounds Awesome! In practice, however, Ouphris is rather sad. He is the only monster that cannot kill you without passing a ridiculous time requirement. You can run into him, bump him, walk right through him, he's more harmless than the snake.

Ouphris is only dangerous when he starts whistling. When that happens, whip out the Heka Amulet, turn it on, and he'll reveal his true form and waddle away. As much as I love Ouphris as a design, as a concept, he sorely needs several buffs.

The devs tried buffing him by making the Heka amulet limited use, but this doesn't answer the core problem with Ouphris: He needs to have uninterrupted line of sight on his target for a specific amount of time before he is able to attack.

This power is only helped by the fact Ouphris will never lose his target. Run around the tomb, take as many twists or turns as you want, he will find you easily. However, he cannot attack once you have broken line of sight. Break line of sight often and it'll feel like your just playing with a friendly monster who is following you around while you look for the escape lever.

[AS OF 0.5] Ouphris now disables global chat! Huzzah! That was even one of my earliest suggestions to begin buffing him. As well, it seems the Heka amulet has a bit of a cooldown now, so be more cautious around him, but overall his weaknesses still stand.

Eventually! I've been struggling to find time with my friends to really dive into the new update.

are you going to update this with the new Mejai?
LastResort554 May 29, 2023 @ 5:14am
you can use the heka amulet to ward off literally all of these mejai

Don't hide in a corner. As I said you cannot hide as he will never lose track of you. When he stops moving is essentially when his counter starts going down anyway. You need to use the amulet. Just keep running around and using the amulet until you find the lever. Try to avoid aggroing him when possible and you'll be fine.

If you don't have the amulet, then yeah he's a threat, but once you get it, and especially when you upgrade it, he just becomes a mummy for free gold. Just wait til he whistles, pop the amulet, bam, you're good.

Ouphris, the Forgotten, just played where he was the big baddie, breaking line of sight no longer works, I died hiding in a corner after breaking line of sight, came back as a money, watch my friend get aggro and then run off, saw Ouphris run after him at break neck speeds and kill him

Thank you so much for the guide! This will help my group a lot overall, but especially when playing against Ouphris. Up till now we've always done 2 things with Ouphris. 1. Flash our lights at each other so we know we're cool. 2. Sacrifice a member so we can snap a pic, proving the Mejai exists.

I'll look into it, see if it's true then I'll slap it in if it is.

Pretty sure Ataimon gets a tad faster each time he's stunned, might wanna see about confirming that and make a note of it if so.

The recommended equipment for Ataimon would be a flashlight to stun him. And a torch to wield the creatures he summons away.

New player, killed by Talgor twice and Ouphris once.

With Talgor, you really do need to keep your eyes glued to your tablet. Though one of the two times, my teamates had failed to open the inner chamber but had not warned me what they were doing. So I had no idea the boss had spawned in at all until i dropped dead. This guy is a real grim reaper though, I have never heard the noise he makes before he kills me so my only recommendation is live with the tablet glued to your head.

Ouphris without the amulet is a creepy MF and faster than he looks. I was looking for the switch in a solo game and he saw me enter a trap room. Managed to hide behind a pillar/doorway. MF stood in the doorway, like 1 meter away for like 2 whole minutes. When he moved, he moved into the one area of the trap room my hiding spot could be seen from, saw me with his back turned and outran me as I made a break for it.
