Model Builder - Bugs FAQ

This official Model Builder guide, describes the most common bugs and troubleshooting.

INTRODUCTION

This guide was created to help you with the most common bugs and fixing it. We want to ensure that every player will have the best gameplay experience, and thanks to this guide you can now fix the most common issues by yourself.

This guide will be constantly updated.

Cannot interact with the Workbench

If you cannot interact with the workbench in the Story Mode / Sandbox mode, you should close the game and open it one more time.

The second fix you can try, is to check the Steam Files integrity. Here's how you can do it:

1. Open Steam Library and find the Model Builder,
2. Right Mouse Button on the game and click Settings,
3. Select the Local Files tab
4. Click Verify integrity of game files button.

One of those fixes, should fix this problem.

Cannot place a model on the Display Shelve

If you spot this problem, you should verify the integrity of Steam files for Model Builder. Here's how you can do it:

1. Open Steam Library and find the Model Builder,
2. Right Mouse Button on the game and click Settings,
3. Select the Local Files tab
4. Click Verify integrity of game files button.

"Finish Project" button does not work

If you spot this bug, you can refresh connections. We’ve added this ability if they are not being accepted on manual.

You can do it by saving and loading the game and then pressing Ctrl+Shift+R while there is a module with unrecognized connection present on workbench.

Paints are missing from the finished models

If you encounter this bug, your PC probably does not meet the minimal requirements for the Model Builder, or your hard drive is connected with the slower SATA cable.

This problem is strictly related to the hard drive type and speed. With the newest equipment, you should never spot this bug.

Cannot connect some parts of the model

We’ve added the ability to refresh connections if they are not being accepted on manual.

You can do it by saving and loading the game and then pressing Ctrl+Shift+R while there is a module with unrecognized connection present on workbench.

Saving / Loading the game problems

Files can fail to save and load due to a few factors:

Not enough disk space

After the 1.0.17 update, the game is checking every time if you're trying to save it and will inform you if there's not enough space available.

If files failed to save, and you can't load any of your saves, go to your Save's folder on your computer and look for files that are 0KB size. You can delete them and then should be able to load your previous saves.

Third-Party software

Check, if no other software is blocking access to game files. This problem can be caused by an antivirus program, or a cloud files programs like OneDrive (with an auto synchronization feature turned ON).

Cannot load the game / I can't see a saved game files

If you cannot load the game or simply do not see the Save Files available to load in the game menu, you should delete corrupted save files. Here's how:

1. Go to your save files folder for Model Builder: Documents\Model Builder\Saves
2. Find the save files that have 0kb weight.
3. Delete those files.
4. Load the game.

This problem sometimes occurs when the game creates the backup save files during the auto-saving process.

Game crashes while auto-saving

If you encounter this bug, please provide us saved files and player logs:

1. Saved Files: you can find it here C:\Users\xxx\Documents\Model Builder\Saves.
Please compress the whole save directory.

2. Player.log file: just type %appdata%/../LocalLow/Moonlit/Model Builder in your file explorer and press Enter, you will see Player.log and Player-prev.log.
Please compress those two files.

Models / Parts / Manuals does not load while working

If you spot this bug, please, verify file integrity on Steam:

1. Open Steam Library on Model Builder page,
2. Click Settings (the cog in the upper right corner),
3. Select the Local Files tab,
4. Click Verify integrity of game files button.

In case you spot any other bug or problem, please, verify file integrity on Steam in the first place:

4. Click Verify integrity of game files button.

If that action does not resolve the problem you've encountered, please provide us Save Files and Player Logs

Save Files

You can find them here C:\Users\xxx\Documents\Model Builder\Saves.
Please compress the whole save directory!

Player.log files

To find those files, type %appdata%/../LocalLow/Moonlit/Model Builder in your File Explorer and press Enter. In the opened folder you will see Player.log and Player-prev.log.

Solution for "Finally, someone new!". I went to C:\Users\username\Documents\Model Builder\Saves\Models\ and removed folder TF-HumanWarriorFemale. Started up game, painted the model again, halfway with eyes, got button to Finish project to work. Though ugly as h*** i got perfect score :D probably because last model was still in memory. Hope this helps someone.

having same problem as EllisVon, stuck after getting auction invitation. looked at youtube videos and there should be an auction app on the laptop, but there was none for me.
tried verifying but nothing changed.
there's a discussion thread on this and no solution either

I got a bug with the recent update causing any completed version and the parts of the Aether Bike to fail on loading, the parts just have endless spinners and any of these kits on display are invisible (I wound up accidentally selling one of these, and can't rebuild it).

I am at the point in the game where I get told to assemble & paint a model to put up for auction on the in-game app yet when I go to the workbench, I can't get a model that I have purchased to show. I also don't know how to get the in-game app to show in order to put a previous model on the auction. I am at a loss on what to do to advance further in the game or am I at stopping point until the next DLC comes available?

The reset connections button does not work. It does nothing obvious. My model is 100% but the "Finish Project" button remains grayed out no matter what I do. I've tried saving, then loading, then clicking the button, then saving then loading again. Nothing. Sorry, I'm sure this must be an annoying bug to track down.

The game is shit. 1. Does not save settings. 2. There is no optimization at all! the 3D model of the room is slowing down - what nonsense is this? I work in autocad without problems, and here such inadequate requirements. 3. The most important thing is that it does not save the progress of the model during assembly. Not finished, went out, came back - do it again. That's enough, I'm deleting it. I don't even need it for free. The developer's answers are nonsense, the painting of models does not load because of the disk to low. Are you kidding me?!?! M2 SSD, read speed of 445 megabytes per second - is it not enough for you?
I love models, but I don't have time to do them. I wanted to relax, at least for half an hour a day in the game. And I got disappointed and unprofessional. The game was made by lamers.

Doesn't save my settings. Specifically, I set for Windowed, 2560x1600, and set Music to 0% (or muted). Works. But after exit game and restarting, it's reverted to Fullscreen and Music = 50%. v1.1.7

playing on the epic games copy of the game and the settings reset on every launch of the game as I have lowered my mouse sensitivity and it keeps resetting making me have to go in and reset it to the slower mouse movement
