Introduced with Patch 1.2.0, the Shards play an integral role in being able to purchase Teachable Perks from the Shrine of Secrets as an alternative to leveling a Character to the necessary level.

Iridescent Shards are one of the Player Progression Currencies. These may be used to purchase Teachable Perks, Characters, and Customization Items in the in-game Store.

This guide will be almost like a spreadsheet with the amount you can obtain from one devotion, from levels from one to one hundred.

Iridescent Shards are earned by gaining Experience Points from playing Trials and thus progressing one's Player Account Level.

On Dead by Daylight Mobile, Iridescent Shards may also be obtained from completing Daily and Weekly Rituals.

The amount of Iridescent Shards obtained is determined by your Player Account Level. Levelling up the account will reward the Player with a certain amount of Shards.

  • Iridescent Shards can be spent in the Shrine of Secrets in exchange for Teachable Perks. When a Perk is purchased from the Shrine of Secrets, it is removed, but will be replaced at the end of the rotation, which takes place every Wednesday at 00:00 UTC.

  • Teachable Perks usually cost 2,000 Iridescent Shards or 2,700 Iridescent Shards when appearing in the Shrine for the first time.

  • If a Player has already unlocked one of the Teachable Perks available for purchase, buying that Perk again from the Shrine of Secrets will instead grant 150,000 Bloodpoints, or, if that Perk is from a Character of a recent DLC, it will grant 250,000 Bloodpoints.

  • As of Patch 2.0.0, Original Characters may also be purchased from the Store with 9,000 Iridescent Shards, and many cosmetic items can be bought for varying amounts of Shards.

The Player Level represents a Player's overall progression on their account.
Every Character that one plays contributes to one's Player Account Level.

  • Levelling up past Level 99 will reset the Player Level to 1 and increase their Devotion by one.
Currently, this mechanic has no practical use other than displaying how often one has played the Game since the system's inception.

Since the introduction of Player Levels, Iridescent Shards are awarded as a bonus for levelling up one's Player Level.

  • Averaging across all 99 Levels within one Devotion, one earns approximately 0.065 Iridescent Shards per Experience Point.

Experience Points or "XP" are how one levels up their account.
Experience Points are obtained by playing ranked Trials.

Their amount is determined after a Trial concludes according to several factors, as well as one's obtained Emblem Qualities:

  • Time spent in a Trial (capped at 10 minutes):
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 XP per second

  • Emblem Qualities:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
18 XP per Iridescent Emblem
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
12 XP per Gold Emblem
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6 XP per Silver Emblem

In addition to the aforementioned factors, Dead by Daylight rewards Players with a bonus of 300 XP for playing the "First Game of the Day".

This bonus can be earned twice by playing both a first game as Killer and as Survivor.

The traditional way to get iridescent shards in DBD is by grinding, but impatient players may be able to farm iridescent shards to get them a little faster.

Farming techniques are typically frowned upon by the gaming community as some players consider it cheating. However, if you really want to get shards without putting in (much) work, here are a few ways to do it.

  • Approximately, to go from level one to one hundred, as in per devotion, you'll have to gather roughly 350,000 experience points. That translates to a whopping 700 trials if we assume each match gets you 500 XP. That's over 110 hours of playtime. Your reward? 25,000 shards. What can that get you? Oh, well. Obviously, you deserve only one unique purple set cosmetic. That's absolutely insane if you ask me. That's too little for too much time and effort invested.

    1. Play as Killer, go AFK.

I do not condone nor incentivize players to purposely throw matches. This is an efficient analysis of the facts presented.

This method is exactly what it sounds like. Start your match with you as the killer, find a hidden corner and go away from your keyboard for a little while. This may seem a little unethical, but remember that the game primarily rewards time spent in the game, and not necessarily for what you do or your skill level as you play.

    • Find a match with you as the killer using the “Search for Match” button, minimize the game on your screen, go watch an episode of your favorite anime or tv show, and come back to the game to collect your “hard-earned” XP.

    2. Improve your Gameplay efficiency.

You can also play the game and bypass that entire AFK conundrum by updating your strategy while you play. Keep these things in mind to maximize your potential points:

    • Keep your matches under 10 minutes long. Anything after that is a waste of time XP-wise since you don’t earn anything for time played. Concentrate on scoring emblems in safer categories like cleansing totems, healing teammates, and repairing generators to up your chances of surviving the full 10 minutes. Remember, it’s not “cowardly”, it’s a smart use of your time.

For those of you cuties who would rather have a video representation of this tutorial section, here's that for you!

  • The amount of obtained Shards was, before patch 2.0.0, directly tied to the time a Player spent actively participating in a trial. 1 minute of active play would reward them with 1 Iridescent Shard. The maximum amount that could be obtained in a single trial was capped at 10 Iridescent Shards.

  • Iridescent Shards were capped at 1,000.

  • Teachable Perks generally cost 550 Iridescent Shards or 750 Iridescent Shards if they were from a recent DLC.

  • Buying an already owned Teachable Perk would reward you with 200,000 Bloodpoints or 250,000 Bloodpoints if they were from a recent DLC.

  • For the duration of the Fifth Year Anniversary Event, Teachable Perks cost 1500 Iridescent Shards with the Shrine of Secrets being refreshed every 24 hours.

  • Iridescent Shards are the second currency to be released in the game, after Bloodpoints.

  • Iridescent Shards and Rift Fragments are the only currencies to rely on XP.

    ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Before the introduction of Iridescent Shards in Patch 1.2.0, Auric Cells in Patch 2.0.0 and the temporary currency of Putrid Serum, Bloodpoints were the only Currency featured in the Game.

  • If you truly felt like this guide genuinely assisted in some way, please, do so consider dropping a rating for me. I really try my best to put passion, attention, and time into my works, especially to have everything explained nicely and well for you so no possible doubts may be had, and to make it pleasant and beautiful to read and go through so it doesn't seem tiresome. I would be very thankful if you took the time to provide your feedback. You know, these kinds of small things help passionate guides reach more people, and help them just as it did to you! I won't be the only one to be appreciative, but they will also be, too!

  • If you read it this far, I have something special to share with you, so don't go just yet! As a wholesome Nancy main, it's my duty to make this guide fun and exciting for you. Here's Beatriz's Special Tip For You: Force yourself to find something beautiful in everything you do and you will only do beautiful things. No duty is more urgent than giving thanks. Gratitude and attitude are not challenges; they are choices. Try to be more grateful - that way you'll find it more easily to be positive to everyone around you. Maybe our community might be missing that a lot these past years. Don't be like that, too. Thank you, and wishing you the best! Enjoy your trials!

Also, just for the sake of curiosity. An easter egg that many players must pass, Coldwind Farm used to have a piggy running around in the background. It was waaay back in 2016 to 2017. Some would slighly notice it, since it was pretty hidden. By the way, another thing is that the campfire used to have ammmm... a... a plastic dildo on the bottom of the fire. Anyway, now you know some funny things the dev team used to play with us back then. That was fun... And embarrassing, ahaha. Okay, now that's truly it! Bye, bye! I hope this guide was helpful to you!

Finally, someone computed the time needed to have the shards needed to buy a purple tier skin, safe to say I only ever got 2 purple skins via iri shards and I have 800+ hours.
