Rune farm 1.5 million in 20 minutes

Bit complicated version of fairly early-mid game farming tactic which pays handsomely.

Requirements:

• bow/crossbow
• fletched arrows (regular arrows wont reach the target) / bolts (you'll need to aim manually)
• defeated Margit the Fell Omen
• defeated Morgott the Omen King
• discovered Mohgwyn Palace (either by progressing thru white-faced varre ("no maidens?" npc) quest line, or by using the chest trap

How to get to farming location

In Mohgwyn Palace you'll have to find a Bonefire site of grace south-east from starting location. Just follow this map

Let the farming commence!

Once you've arrived at the site of grace, take out your bow and two-hand it or reload crossbow (I don't judge).

go to the ledge and stand near the "gap". if you're with a bow target the bird which walks on another side. usually I shoot my arrow when it steps it's left leg one last time before turning. after the arrow/bolt lands bird will aggro and fall to it's death giving you 11k runes. Might take few tries to succeed, so bring alot of ammunition.

For crossbow users - aim at lowest right branch gap in tree, fire right when it steps left leg before turning back.

Sit at site of grace, repeat. once you got the hang of where to aim and when to shoot, it's doable in under 10 seconds.

Golden Scarab Talisman will increase runes gained from 11k to 13k, it can be found here

You can also use the ashes of war that give you the spear throw, thus negating the need to use any ammo that isn't FP.

Just hitting the tree will get the bird to run around to see what the noise was, and you can hit it easy from there since it has minor tracking

nuh, i just use my steam deck, and pc, and trade with characters, while backing up my save so i have the item i want everytime i back up the save. thus i can dupe anything.

The requirements list is a bit of a mess. Progressing Varre's questline nullifies Morgott and introduces Godfrey as a requirement. You can get to this farm right after Godfrey.
Regular arrows reach the bird when aimed manually.

Just my tips: You'll want to aim manually so you can catch it while it's still walking towards the cliff edge. This significantly speeds up your farming speed. It also takes a bit of practice to get the rhythm down.
I found that standing a few feet back from the cliff edge made him jump every time - from where I was standing. Different snipe points might have him jump every time regardless of this, but my point was pretty close to the grace.

this may seem like a dumb question and off topic.. but i notice your button layout is playstation.. im using a playstation 4 controller to play the game but all of my HUD icons are Xbox. Is there a way to change it..? or is it because of the ps4 controller? Thanks for the guide btw

Yeah by far since you need to try to scale up enough to be able to one shot the goblin people or even get to end game before getting that sword so it is definitely easier to collect runes even for someone starting out and with it being so easy to get into the palace through the questline over finding it in Caelid

I repeated this method for like 30 mins total and only handful of times did the AI fail. surely it's not optimal, but I think it's much "easier" method so to say.

I mean yeah this is a good method the only problem is that with this it requires the AI to comply enough to make itself run off the map which is a ball ache on it self like you could be sat there shooting arows or bolts at it for 5 mins straight and he wont run off the side but in the end it does work I think it gives you around 12 - 13k runes if you have the golden scarab on and it is abit quicker than killing all the goblin people up there individually unless you have the elden sword with wave of gold which gives you around 35k runes per run and can be done in less than 20 seconds
