Running RotTK 11 PUK in Linux(/Proton)

This guide will describe how to run the game properly in Linux (/Proton).

Chinese language installation and configuration

This instructions was tested on Ubuntu 20.04. File path and configuration options may vary for other operating systems.

Install "Chinese (traditional)" Language via: Language Support > Install/Remove Languages

In Ubuntu 20.04, Chinese by default is UTF8 (i.e zh_TW.UTF-8), so launching the game will result in scrambled text:

RotTK 11 requires either 'zh_HK.BIG5' or 'zh_TW.BIG5` encoding. Edit the file '/var/lib/locales/supported.d/zh-hant'

sudo vim /var/lib/locales/supported.d/zh-hant

to include BIG5 in addition to UTF-8

zh_TW.UTF-8 UTF-8
zh_HK.UTF-8 UTF-8
zh_TW.BIG5 BIG5
zh_HK.BIG5 BIG5

Update system locale via

sudo locale-gen

Update the game launch options to use BIG5 (instead of inheriting system default of UTF-8):

LANG=zh_TW.BIG5 %command%

Now when you launch the game, the menu will show Chinese:
