Night 1
So... you've brought it upon yourself to play FNaF 4. This night teaches you some of the mechanics, and here you really want to start learning the controls. It's hard to die in this night, although you want to start building some habits. The first habit is listening before shining the light at the doors, you want to listen for ~3 seconds before shining the light, that is, if you do not hear breathing. Understanding what the breathing sounds like is hard to describe. There's the loud breathing, and the quiet breathing. Either way, mostly it's noticeable. Do not check the closet on this night, as there is no need. There are patterns you must learn to implement into the game. Check two doors in a row, then check the bed. Personally, I check the left door, then the right door, then the bed, although you can check the right door before the left door. This guide will assume that you are going by my pattern. Like I mentioned earlier, it is hard to die on night 1, but there is almost a guarantee that an animatronic will sit at a door at some point in the late night. This is why it is important to listen for breathing, even on the first night.
Nights 2-4
Nights 2-4 have the exact same animatronics, but on a different AI level. Use the same pattern from night 1, (Door Door Bed) until Foxy gets in the closet. Foxy will show visibly and audibly that he's in the closet. The visual cue is the closet door closing, and the audible cue is a slightly higher-pitched version of the doors creaking. At that point, check the closet. Flash the light (He may do a mini-jumpscare) to see which phase he is in. If his face is peeking out, close the door for 5-6 seconds. As for when to check the closet exactly, if you're coming from the left door, and you see/hear the cues, go to the right door, then check the closet. If you're coming from the right door, check the closet immediately. This is to not create confusion with the other pattern. It may also be beneficial to point out that you cannot see or hear the cues when you look back from the bed. Change the pattern to Door Door Closet Bed. Now, this gives more time for the Freddles to accumulate, but this is okay. The main thing to focus on is speed. You basically have to spam-click on the next location in order to get there. As long as you maintain the pattern while keeping cool and listening for the proper amount of time, these nights should not provide that much difficulty.
Night 5
Night 5 is the biggest throw-off ever. Without warning, it replaces every single animatronic with Nightmare Fredbear. However, this is one of the easiest nights so far. The first step is understanding the strategy. Nightmare Fredbear starts by moving to a hall, (If you have headphones, you can hear his footsteps very clearly coming from a side) then either waits there or moves. The strategy for night 5 is to wait in the center of the room, and listen for his footsteps. After his footsteps stop, wait 4-5 seconds before going to the door he was at most recently. flash the light briefly, if he is there, close the door, and listen for footsteps going the other way. If he is not there, this may be a glitch, so try going back to the center then go back to the door. Now, that part is simple enough. The part that actually gives this night some difficulty is the laughs. When he laughs, it is a signal that he is in the bed or in the closet. When you think it's a real laugh, always check the bed first because it is faster to check the bed than to check the closet. Sometimes, (often) he fake laughs and it's up to you to decide if it is fake. Since it is night 5 and he's got low AI, it might help to wait a bit after the laugh to see if you hear any more footsteps, (if you do, he's faking you). That's pretty much it for night 5, but it should help to note that the footstep noises get more recognizable the longer you play. From my personal experiences, right to left is louder than left to right.
Night 6
Night 6 is a demonic combination of night 4 and night 5, with slightly higher AI's for both portions. The night starts out like night 4, just higher AI. Then, when 4 AM rolls around, it seems to go quiet. That's because, surprise, Nightmare Fredbear has replaced all other animatronics for the night! Use the strategies from nights 2-4, then when 4 AM rolls around, immediately switch gears and use the night 5 strategy. It's probably going to be beneficial to mention that Nightmare Fredbear has quite a high AI on this night, as opposed to night 5, but the strategy still works.
Night 7 / Nightmare
Night 7 starts out just like night 6, however, yet again, there is a higher AI level. I'm sure that from night 6, players start to anticipate 4 AM here, but the game still has a few tricks up its sleeve! At 4 AM, when players expect to see Nightmare Fredbear, they are instead greeted with Nightmare. Nightmare is a terrifying recolor of Nightmare Fredbear, being much more aggressive and having a strange jumpscare. The differences between strategies are huge too. Nightmare has similar footsteps, however, when he stops making footsteps, he can't change his mind. So, in other words, when he stops making footsteps, immediately go to the door that you most recently heard his footsteps. He gives you WAY less time than Nightmare Fredbear to react, to the point where not even using the flashlight may be a viable method. Other than that, I'm pretty sure that he fake laughs more than Nightmare Fredbear. If you suspect a fake laugh, go to the door you most recently heard the footsteps. Lightly tap the flashlight button then close the door. If you saw him there, that is good, and it means that you were right in your suspicions. However, if he is not there, open the door and flick back IMMEDIATELY. Check the bed first as you usually would, then, if he is not in the bed, you should rush the closet with no hesitation, and close the closet door without even checking if he is in there.
Night 8 / 20/20/20/20/20 Mode
Here we go, the hardest night. This night is a full repeat of night 7, however, the AI is completely maxed. Here, you must be insanely fast in the first portion of the night. Just keep going, even if you think you're going to get jumpscared. As soon as 4 AM rolls around, good luck. Nightmare is fierce in this mode, DO NOT flash the light, (unless you are in a situation which I will address soon) rather, close the door immediately and put all the trust in your ears. If you suspect a fake laugh, use the flashlight EXTREMELY briefly as Nightmare gives you about half a second to react to his presence. If he is not at the door when you suspected a fake laugh, AS FAST AS YOU CAN, go back and check the bed. If he is not at the bed, start praying. Spam click to the closet, and close the door, using the flashlight is completely out of the picture. If you're lucky, you can save it, but RNG might get you first. Remember, this night is also quite dependent on luck, so don't be discouraged if you don't get it first try.
Extra Stars???
Unfortunately, this guide is not for the challenges, rather, it is simply for how to beat each night.
Conclusion

Night 2 - Starts using mechanics in a serious way, ramps up difficulty
Night 3 - Small jump from night 2
Night 4 - Hardest version of night 2
Night 5 - Surprise!
Night 6 - Surprise! Again!
Night 7 - Surprise! Again! Again!
Night 8 - Hell

Yeah, thanks for reading and I hope this guide helps you in any way.

BUSH_BTW, lights flickering mean danger, usually it means that the Freddles are accumulating, but it can mean that the animatronics are progressing to a dangerous state. (i.e. Foxy being in the closet and at his late stages or Chica/Bonnie being at the door.)
