Harmonic Combos

Harmonic combos are absoultely necessary to the combat in Jade Empire, but are very lightly touched on in game.

Combos

To successfully start a HC, use one of these eight styles:

Storm Dragon (Area Attack): Produces a flesh explosion, and a Focus
power-up.

Heavenly Wave (Power Attack): Produces a flesh explosion, and a Health
power up.

Paralyzing Palm (Power Attack): Produces a petrification, and a
shattering, but no power-up.

Hidden Fist (Area Attack): Produces an absorption, and a Chi power-up.

Dire Flame (Area Attack): Produces a charred corpse, and a Health
power-up.

Ice Shard (Power Attack): Produces a shattering, and a Chi power up.

Stone Immortal (Power Attack): Produces a shattering, but no power-up.

Tempest (Power Attack): Produces a disappearance, and a Focus power-up.

and just in case you have forgotten, area attacks are default to both left and right mouse click at the same time.

A helpful hint to harmonic combos is to use focus mode (default push f) before using them, as they take time and can be interrupted.

Storm Dragon: Chapter 2, from Spear Catches Leaf.
Heavenly Wave: Starting, or from Chapter Three onward.
Paralyzing Palm: Chapter Three, from Master Radiant.
Hidden Fist: Chapter Three, from Master Smiling Hawk.
Dire Flame: Chapter One, from Water Dragon. Chapter Three from Merchant
Kia Jong in the Lotus Assassin Fortress.
Ice Shard: Chapter One, from Water Dragon. Chapter Three from Acolyte
Trainer Guang, in the LA Fortress.
Stone Immortal and Tempest: In Chapter Two, Mistress Vo or Master Jian.
Tempest is for Closed Fist, Stone Immortal for Open Palm.

I just completed the game and then this post showed up on my steam feed - I left and right clicked using either a sword or iron fist the entire damn game. My only saving grace on the tough fights was to stagger them with repeated hits or dodging very frequently. Pretty crazy I went the whole game not knowing about this

I got by just fine by stun-locking every single enemy with light attacks.

my bad,
you want to get the enemy target down to a very minimal amount of health, then you begin the harmonic combo, you will know its going to work when a ring appears around the enemy

HC ia short for harmonic combo,
you combine attacks from two different styles (listed above) to complete a harmonic combo when an enemy is near death to make them drop a pickup
