Step One
DISCLAIMER! THIS IS JUST A TUTORIAL, I AM NOT THE MOD CREATOR. I CANNOT HELP WITH TROUBLESHOOTING!

First off - you need to spawn your ragdoll into your scene.

In this case, we're going to use the scout from Team Fortress 2.
Step Two
Next - RIGHT click and copy the ragdoll - then you have to LEFT click to spawn your animated prop to be able to edit it.
This pop-up will appear when you've successfully copied your ragdoll
Step Three
You can LEFT click anywhere with the toolgun to spawn the Animated prop. You can then move it anywhere with your physics gun.

Step Four
Then, once you've spawned your prop in the right place - RIGHT click on the Animated prop with your toolgun and hold down C - a menu will pop up on the right side of the screen with all of the character animation options available.
This pop-up will appear when you've successfully selected your model
Step Five
The menu looks something like this. Here are some animation options available for the Scout.
Step Six
Once you have selected one of the animations - it'll start to play - like a preview.

(Please note: Some animations ignore the ground or are turned away to the side.)
Step Seven
You can also change the bodygroups of the prop and you can use the face poser and eye poster tools as well.

I found it easier to use the easy bodygroup tool for changing things like the skin etc.
Step Eight
You can also add items to your prop by using the Bonemerger tool.

Like this:
Step Nine
You can also pause and unpause the prop by pressing R. Great for Garry's mod pictures.
Step Ten Finished
And you're pretty much done with it. You can also try out other ragdolls as well, not all ragdolls have the same animations though...

(One more Note: Not all ragdolls have animations and the some that do, won't play.)

I Hope this tutorial was of some help to you?

I'm curious, how in the hell would you play multiple animations on a single character... For example, the Rancho Relaxo and the Sentry Gun? How would I play one animation (assuming I somehow get the animation to work and play fully), then move on to the next one? (Sentry Gun Lvl 1 Upgrading to Lvl 2)

I have a question, the css models have handpos animations next to the default stand pose ones. Can i make them preform both animations so his hands are in the right place when holding a pistol?

The ragdoll just stays there. You can always delete it late if need be.
