Introduction

The Thief series has always had it is own bone fan base and has not been sufficiently appreciated in the world. As a result, it has not been possible to find completely accurate and up-to-date information about the Thief games. As a big fan of the Thief series, I thought that newcomers to the series should not suffer and that the Thief games do not deserve this. By preparing installation and modding guides about the games, I try to help those who will start the series on the one hand, and on the other hand, I try to ensure that the Thief series gets the value it deserves. Backup Files

Before following the steps in this guide, it is recommended that you back up your game files just in case. It is very important to have the original game files on hand.

Fan Missions

Continuing the spirit of Thief today are fan missions for Thief 1, Thief 2, Thief 3, and The Dark Mod. There are still people in the community who are preparing fan missions. The series is kept alive thanks to its fans. You can increase your game time to hundreds of hours by downloading these prepared fan missions. Some even surpass the original game in terms of design. They have very successful fan missions.

There's also the standalone The Dark Mod, developed by fans of the Thief trilogy. Have 3 official missions. It's all based on fan missions. If you want to experience a Thief with today's graphics, we can say that The Dark Mod is very successful in this regard.

Playing Fan Missions

You can use the in-game downloader to play fan missions. If you prefer, you can also use the modern fan mission loader AngelLoader instead.

AngelLoader, which is FenPhoenix's fan mission loader for Thief 1, Thief 2 and Thief 3. Today it is only modern fan mission loaders.

Installation
Extract AngelLoader_v1.10.0_x64.zip somewhere.

For example as below:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\AngelLoader

Name the folder where the files are in AngelLoader. So it will be less troublesome to update AngelLoader every time a new version comes out.

If you are using Steam, make sure to promote it as a shortcut.

Do not run AngelLoader yet.

Translation
Before running AngelLoader, we will download any translation.

Right-click on any link in the To aid translators section on AngelLoader and say save link as.

Move the downloaded Lang.ini file to the "\Data\Languages" location in the AngelLoader folder.

Run
Run AngelLoader.

On the screen that appears, select your language from the Language section.

We will be promoting both Thiefs and Steam in AngelLoader. Thus, when we run the Thiefs, our Steam hours will also increase. Instead of running the games one by one, we will run them from the AngelLoader installer at once.

Select the .exe file of each Thief game from the paths to the game executables.

For example as below:
Thief 1

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\thief_gold\THIEF.EXE

Thief 2

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\thief_2\Thief2.exe

Thief 3

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Thief Deadly Shadows\System\t3.exe

Select steam.exe from the Steam executables path.

For example as below:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe

If there is Steam, the boxes for Thief games, including Use to launch these games, must be selected.

We will choose the backup path. Saved games and screenshots will be backed up to the bid folder even if the fan missions are deleted.

Let's create a folder called Backup in the AngelLoader folder.

For example as below:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\AngelLoader\Backup

We will select the HG archive paths. We will move the downloaded .zip and .7z fan missions into a folder. We will introduce this folder in AngelLoader to load fan missions easily.

We will choose the archive path from the + sign at the bottom right.

For example as below:

C:\Archive\Thief Fan Missions

We'll say Include subfolders from the bottom left. If you put these fan missions into folders with separate names, it will allow to detect fan missions archives not only from the folder you point to, but also from subfolders.

After saying OK, AngelLoader will open.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play The Dark Mod fan missions on Thief 1, Thief 2 or Thief 3?
You can not play. You have to play each fan mission on the game it's done on.

How do I do fan missions?
You can perform fan missions using DromEd for Thief 1 and Thief 2, T3Ed for Thief 3, and DarkRadiant for The Dark Mod. You need to know some English to be willing and look at some resources for this. Once you earn these and have enough motivation, you can do a fan mission. Of course, first of all, it would be good to have a good grasp of the Thief series and play at least a certain number of fan missions.
