Notes: After careful review of the related extra media part of the main Arkham Games (Books, Comics, Animated Film) I can safely say that there are too many contradictions within the cannon to make a coherent Timeline work nicely. As such, I will be overhauling the Guide by removing some of the specific dates set throughout the timeline whilst simultaneously adding some cold stone facts to aid in discerning this muddled guide I call a timeline.

This guide is intended to provide the reader with the full timeline regarding the Arkhamverse and the stories which reside in said cannon - applying all forms of media from novels to the comics and of course the main games themselves! This is NOT an in depth lore exploration; simply just a chronological listing of all the main stories/events.

The chronological order of the Arkhamverse will be exemplified using Batman's longevity as the caped crusader himself. In other words, we will be starting from when Bruce Wayne essentially BECAME Batman.

Essential Details Regarding the Timeline
This section will cover vital information which will assist in ascertaining a rough guideline regarding the Arkhamverse Timeline. Undoubtedly, there are many contradictions found within Arkhamverse related media - especially in the comics. As such, I will try my best to coherently put together the main canonical events in a Chronological Order for you all to enjoy. Afterwards, I will present media related to the Arkhamverse which either do not have a chronological timestamp and/or is not considered cannon due to conflicting material. Without further a do - here are some of the main facts that we know about the Timeline so far:
  • Batman Arkham Origins begins in Batman’s second year as the caped crusader (Dev Diary’s confirm this).

  • Batman Arkham Origins is set 10 years before the events of Batman Arkham Knight. Firefighter’s in Arkham Knight confirm this when mentioning Firefly’s bridge attack. Deathstroke also mentions his first time fighting Batman in Arkham Origins - which was 10 years ago.

  • Batman Arkham Knight is set 1 year after Arkham City.

This section will be updated further as soon as I find more concrete evidence that clearly lays out parts of the Arkhamverse Timeline.


Year 0 - 1: Initiation
The Arkhamverse begins with the Batman Arkham Origins DLC known as "Initiation", in which you get to play as Bruce Wayne during his final days of training to become the vigilante we all know and love!
Year 2 - Arkham Origins
Next up is the Batman Arkham Origins Comic, which takes place before the events of the Arkham Origins game, although it is unclear how long exactly - just that it is set in the same year.

December 24th - 25th: This marks the start of Batman Arkham Origins.

December 31st: This marks the first encounter between Batman and Mr Freeze in the Cold, Cold Heart DLC.



Year 3 - Blackgate
March - April: The events of Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate occurs.

September: Arkham Asylum is reinstated.
Year 4 - Beginnings
June: ♥♥♥♥ Grayson loses his parents during an acrobatics show and is taken in as Bruce Wayne's ward.



August: Barbara Gordon begins her journey as Batgirl in the Batman Arkham Knight Batgirl Begins Comic #1.

October: ♥♥♥♥ Grayson becomes Robin.
Year 5 - Chaotic Turf Conflict
November: The events of the Batman Arkham Origins Multiplayer begins - depicting a all out turf war between The Joker and Bane.
Year 6 - From Robin to Nightwing - and back to Robin!
February: ♥♥♥♥ Grayson quits being Robin and moves to Blüdhaven.

March: ♥♥♥♥ Grayson becomes Nightwing.

May: ♥♥♥♥ Grayson gets a job as a Police Officer in Blüdhaven.

June: This marks the start to the Batman Arkham Knight Batgirl/Harley Quinn set of Comics - #1 and #2.

December: Jason Todd has his first encounter with Batman where he witnesses a fight between him and Joker after a successful robbery.



Year 7 - Good whilst it lasted
March: Jason Todd becomes Robin

October: The new Robin goes after the Joker alone and is captured and tied up in an abandoned wing of Arkham Asylum.

Year 8 - A "death" in the family
March: Tim Drake reveals to Batman he knows he's Bruce Wayne.

June: Tim Drake becomes Robin.

October: Batman receives the video of Jason Todd being "killed".
Year 9 - The Killing Joke
February: Batgirl: A Matter of Family is next up in the timeline and is included within the season pass for Batman Arkham Knight.


August: Barbara Gordon is crippled by the Joker. (Just a heads up, the Killing Joke animated movie is NOT considered cannon in the Arkhamverse but i'd still highly recommend giving it a watch during your Arkhamverse binge as it's a great story which gives you the jist of what happened to Barbara Gordon in the events leading up to her becoming Oracle).


November: Barbara Gordon takes on the persona of Oracle.
Year 10 - A Poisonous Year
Poison Ivy releases thousands of poisonous spores into Gotham, killed hundreds of people.
Year 11 - The Beginning of the End

December 21st:
  • Batman - Arkham City: Catwoman (Prologue)

  • Batman: Arkham City.

  • Batman - Arkham City: Catwoman (Ending)

As you can see - they all conflict with each other in one way or the next. This makes it very difficult to cultivate a streamlined Timeline for the Arkhamverse. I have tried my best but ultimately there will be some issues to be found within this Guide. There is nothing I can feasibly do about this.

You forgot Arkham City : Lockdown (prequel to Arkham City) and Bateman Arkham : Underworld.
Both are cannon and also not available anymore. I suggest to watch them on YouTube

However, to Answer your question "Emirwsw" - if I recall correctly, I think the Work in Progress (WIP) refers to contradictory cannon comic issues that conflict with certain aspects of the Arkham Knight game. As said, I'll update the comics in due time ;)

Pretty well detailed. Really makes you appreciate all the work towards the inter connected details (with some inconsistencies here and there like Bane dying in the comic but Knight reveals he simply left Gotham to go back to his home country)
