Now I'm expecting SR2 to also feature EOS in the future... The dev that died promised us he would enable multiplayer as well (+ bringing the console exclusive DLCs to PC)... Both you and me know what this could potentially mean, when we look at what's happening nowadays... EOS, baby. It's easy... Epic can sponsor the update... More money for... Deep Silver I mean their new publisher, Gearbox (who might do the "Epic giveaway" deal as they did in the past too - Borderlands 1 + 2 both got EOS infected, of course)... and Epic will be able to spy on SR2 players... win+win... while we might get new bugs and worse frame rate (but hey, no more crashes + the DLC content)...
Hope this helps. Sorry for the long reply. I had to bring in all the details. Have a good one.
Cross-play... has conquered the younger people's minds... you see, friends can now play a multiplayer game together if they got it on separate storefronts (Steam vs Epic)... "IT'S ESSENTIAL, BRO... don't say no to this". God, I love being spied on by a company I detest... ALSO love to see the network connection becoming unstable (compared to the previous version using Steamworks)... There's no alternative option in most cases sadly to say... no more Steamworks API only version... many current and upcoming games (from medium-sized to AAA studios) are getting EOS API integrated right from the start...
I'm tired of this parasitic company... they got lucky because they ripped off PUBG... adding in battle royale mode into Fortnite is the thing that made them successful and arrogant... Then they got Tencent's (aka China) support (who owns 49% of Epic)... Now they want to introduce EOS in every single UE4 / UE5 game INCLUDING on the console versions... yes, they stated that recently.
But wait, there's more... in some cases, even single-player games receive the "EOS" update... Usually their excuse is "cross-play" (when it comes to co-op or multiplayer games), but hey... telemetry works in every game, so why not... Epic is happy with that. More data to collect from innocent players (especially from those that avoided EGS in the past)...
Back to the main topic: SR4 got "fixed" after countless players complained and review bombed the game... How? by making the previous version available as an option to select within game's Steam Properties > Betas menu. We can rollback / revert the game to the old pre-EOS version.
The reason SR4 got that "magical" update was for $$. Its publisher, Deep Silver, wanted to make some extra $$. The deal between them and Epic is like this: Epic contacts various game devs / publishers with the hope to publish their back catalog games on that filthy platform (EGS), often starting with a free (time limited) giveaway of the game(s) in question. For that, there's one important task the publishers need to do as well: implementing EOS into those old (yet functional, almost bug-free) games, even for the versions that were already available on other digital PC storefronts...
