2025 GET COD4X/MULTIPLAYER WORKING - NO MANUAL DOWNLOADS/PATCHING REQUIRED

Simple guide to get cod4x/multiplayer, still orking Jan 2025, no manual downloads or patching needed

GUIDE

1) Install CoD4 from steam
2) Launch multiplayer
3) Enable console in settings
4) Open console with Tilde (`) key
5) Manually connect to any C4S server by typing one of the following commands into the console

/connect 178.33.157.21:28958
or
/connect 178.33.157.21:28953

6) The required files will download and you will be prompted to downgrade your version, click yes to any box that appears
7) Relaunch cod4 multiplayer, you will now see Cod4x 20.1 or higher in the bottom right
8) after clicking join game ensure source at the top is set to "Internet COD4X"
9) Done, multiplayer is back!

cant even launch game with stupid punkbuster error. not buying a game that needs to be modded to function

Singleplayer wont launch for me multiplayer works but i cant join a game any fix? When i press start then chose single player the button says starting then goes back to press start to play or what ever

The voice-chat is enabled, but i have nothing on the level indicator.

I'm on Windows 10 Pro currently, I never used to have this problem on my old rig. Upgraded about 3 months ago but havnet played for probably 2 years and now I cant play at all. I've spent hours trying all sorts of fixes, Restarting PC and router after trying multiple fixes but nothing works so far. Big bummer. I just want to play some promod and CJ lol.

I haven't had any punkbuster errors and been playing for years on and off, maybe your on Windows 11? I know that can cause a lot of random compatibility issues so maybe worth trying it on Windows 10 if you aren't on it already, that's the first thing I would try to rule anything out and start to narrow down the issue

I keep getting Punkbuster Handshaking Error, Boots me from the game after 4-8 minutes no matter the server/ping. Any fixes? I've tried just about everything on google.
