Introduction
[This is my first guide and it is still a work in progress]

I've had a wonderful time jotting down a map for this game, various points of interest, item requirements for my next gear choices, etc - I imagine it's what playing oldschool text-based RPGs must have been like. The game feels much more immersive and interactive when going in without any information and having to find it all yourself. That being said, this guide is here for you should you get stuck or want to optimise the grind. Happy typing :)

The game input is through text input, each area is like a new chatroom. Commands, Stats, Inventory, Inspect, and Party menus are visually evident.

As you progress through the game more commands, skills, items, quests, etc. become available. There's a lot to offer in Chatventure!

Some tips to make life a little easier:
  1. When idle health and mana will heal over time in any map that isn't a dungeon map. You can use the "eat" or "drink" instead of the "consume" command to save your fingers when healing up in battle.
  2. Likewise, you can use "take" instead of "pick up" to obtain dropped loot in the environment.
  3. Barrels, chest, hollowed out trees, stumps, etc. will often contain loot, use the "look" command to notice things in your surroundings. If you don't find items hidden in these locations then they may have been looted recently, or try increasing your perception stat.
  4. When you attack monsters you only need to type their name, not the whole title (i.e "whack gail" rather than "whack gail the rock golem")
  5. In the early game, before you get a weapon, "kick" will do more damage than "punch"
  6. Some monsters are resistant or immune to certain damage types, it's often a good idea to carry different weapons and armour. Look for "effective hit" to know which damage type to deal.
  7. The number of monsters that will spawn can be related the number of players in that chatroom / map.
  8. Using "Flee" will take you to the map you came from, not to the nearest safe spot.
  9. Your questbook is found through"check quests" and "check <quest name>".
  10. The "Look" command can spawn monsters for you if you're grinding.
  11. When you die you'll only drop coins, so keep those random items on you until you come to gearing up and need to sell them to make up the coin for your gear / items.
  12. You have to be on the same map to party up with someone.
  13. When your perception is high enough you can use the "track down" skill to find monsters and players alike.
  14. Not a tip, but apparently this game along costs around $17 a month to run the server, if you can support the devs then I'm sure they would appreciate it -> Enter the Sok Zone[sokpop.co]

Rebirth
Rebirth is a sort of prestige system, once a player reaches level 100 they can go to a certain location to use Rebirth and restart the game from level 1. Along side this they will get 100 points added to their billboard rating, a star on their profile photo to show how many times they have prestige'd, and +3 points to their stats per rebirth. All equipped items and items in your inventory will be lost.
Worms are owned by zez the Worm Slayer

Reforge
From the Rime Halls (v1.2.0) free content update:
"There is a cottage in the plains where you can learn how to reforge equipment, this makes them stronger. You can upgrade an item 5 times in this cottage but it requires completion of a quest and power stones. Power stones can be dropped by any monster but the drop rate depends on your level compared to the monster (so imo it's easier in the early game). Boss monsters will drop these at a higher rate.

Dark Side
Trivia & Afterword
Trivia
  • The game was developed with Gamemaker
  • The karma system rewards players for killing players with bad karma
  • Player shops that would allow players to sell goods whilst AFK have been hinted.
  • A new update is planned to add more mid-game content, no date has been confirmed for this release (as of 20/5/2021)

Afterword
The Sokpop Collective have done it again, made a content rich game for a fraction of the price of a pair of socks. I picked this game up in the Christmas sales of 2021 and it's been the first game in a long while that I have played until the morning light on multiple occasions. I can also touch type a lot better now, so thanks for that. All information was gathered manually without access to the source code.

Just wanted to say thank you to the Sokpop collective for the all the creativity they share with the world, and to thanks to my sis for helping me break out of Giant Spider weaves haha.

Suggestions for Sokpop
These QoL suggestions come from a place of kindness as a player who loves this game, so please take the suggestions as such. I feel like this game could be a huge hit!

  1. The font makes it so that "o" and "a" can be a little difficult to discern.
  2. A dark mode would be wonderful!
  3. If a player is poisoned and there's no mobs on field, allow them to leave the map whilst keeping the poison debuff., or decrease the poison time from Serpents -> I just wait there to die as the poison buff when I've ran out of antivenom but have a bunch of bread.
  4. Allowing players to type "Bigtown East Gate" to travel would be wonderful, a lot of time is spent going between Bigtown W,S,E for shops and hunting grounds.
  5. Increasing inventory size or adding a bank of sorts would be great as managing items in the mid game is troublesome
  6. Some form of land based fast travel wouldn't go amiss, like a horse & carriage system that takes you from one town to another for a high price and is limited (i.e, can't go to the island, nor Bogtown because of physical limitation). Or a mount system that allows you to "go to" places, limited by stamina of the mount that dictates how many maps you can go before the mount needs to rest & recharge (can only be done in a town).
  7. Personally, I'd love to see some archery in game, but that's a minor (adj.)
  8. I've not tested this, so excuse me if theis isn't the case, but PKing a player in bogtown, without guards, means that a player will respawn in Bogtown to the mercy of their murderer, is that right?
  9. Server shouts. Given the small player base at the moment, I can see that people are online but it still feels barren. A high priced item, or a long recharge item to talk to the whole server (like party chat) could be nice, but would need heavy balancing.

That's all I can think of, so far... I hope I'm not overstepping with my suggestions, if so please tell me and this section will be removed.

Annoyingly, if you reforge an item, you then need to use the full name when un/equipping it. IE, if you've reforged the crabhammer to first level, you now need to call it "polished crabhammer" when switching out weapons.

@Zennjamin I've tried to summon the bosses, like the King Slime and Captain, but they don't seem to appear. I'm using Summon and Swing Weapon, but nothing ever comes. Any advice?

@justenoughsunshine there isn't a day and night cycle in the game. All of the mini-bosses, like the King Slime, get summoned if you can kill baddies fast enough in specific areas. This roughly boils down to being able to kill 4 baddies within about 13 seconds of each other in areas like the Docks, Central Plains, Secret Glade, and Long Prairie.
