Overcharge
- Overcharge Basic
- Overcharge is an alternative system to ammo, unique to Bardin Goreksson Drakefire Weapons, Kerillian Deepwood Staff and all Sienna Fuegonasus Range Weapons.
- Attacks made with Overcharge weapons will fill the Overcharge meter by a certain amount, which varies per attack.



- Max Overcharge is 40. Overcharge is presented by a bar with 2 markers.
  • The first marker indicates 25%/10 Overcharge. The second marker indicates 80%/32 Overcharge.
  • Below the first marker, the Overcharge bar is grey. Between the first and second markers, the Overcharge bar is orange. Above the second marker, the Overcharge bar is red.
  • When your Overcharge is below the first marker, Venting does not deal damage. Leaving this stage will be indicated by a sound effect.
  • When your Overcharge is above 65%/26 Overcharge, the character receives a -15% Attack Speed debuff. Kerillian and Unchained are immune to this debuff. Entering this stage will be indicated by a sound effect.
  • When your Overcharge is above the second marker, the character receives a -25% Attack Speed/-15% Dodge Speed/-15% Move Speed debuff. Kerillian and Unchained are immune to this debuff. Entering this stage will be indicated by a sound effect.
  • When your Overcharge is above 97%/38.8 Overcharge, you will hear a sound effect, indicating reaching the max Overcharge.

- After a short delay, Overcharge will slowly decay over time when you stop generating them, even if you have another weapon out.
- Different characters decay with different delays at different speeds at different stages.

- If the Overcharge meter goes past the end, the character will explode.
For Bardin and Sienna:
  • Before the explosion, the character will enter a brief animation before exploding. During this animation, the character will raise their hands and cannot jump, crouch, or dodge. Will take 10 damage every 0.5 seconds during the animation, with a total of 50 damage.
    • For Unchained with talent Abandon, if you do not have your Career Skill cooldown ready, in addition to taking 10 damage/0.5 sec, Unchained will also take 5% of Max Health as damage and get 10% cooldown every 0.25 seconds, until your cooldown is ready. The Abandon damage taken part cannot be reduced by any damage reduction.
  • After the animation, or if the character reaches 0 health, or if the character is disabled, they will explode. The explosion will damage everything around the character. The character takes damage equal to 100% of Max Health from the explosion.
  • In total, the character will take 50 + 100% Max Health as damage. The 50 damage part can be reduced by most types of damage reduction, except Unchained passive Blood Magic. The 100% of Max Health part cannot be reduced by any damage reduction.
For Kerillian:
  • The explosion will happen immediately.
  • The explosion does not damage anything besides Kerillian. Kerillian will take damage equal to 40% of Max Health from the explosion. This damage cannot be reduced by any damage reduction.
  • After the explosion, Kerillian will be locked out of her range weapon, gain increased Overcharge decay speed and Overcharge start to decay immediately until the Overcharge drops below 10/first marker. Kerillian cannot vent or use the range weapon during the lockout. The lockout lasts 12.5 seconds.

- A single action cannot trigger the explosion, it will only fill the bar.
  • This means even if there's only one Overcharge left on the bar, you won't explode from a single action.
  • However, this effect has a cooldown. If you gain Overcharge again before the natural Overcharge decay starts, you can still explode from a single action.
- Venting
- Venting is a way to fast reduce your Overcharge value.
- To vent, hold your Reload key while having your range weapon out.
- While venting, your Move Speed is reduced by 80%.

Venting Speed
  • Venting Speed is related to your current Overcharge. The higher your current Overcharge is, the faster you vent. Using Unchained talent Conduit can also increase your venting speed.
Overcharge Lose Through Venting = Current Overcharge Value * 0.5 * (1 or 1.3) * Vent Duration
  • With some Calculus:

Venting Damage
  • Venting Damage is directly related to the Overcharge amount you have when the damage instance happens. The first instance of damage happens when you press the Reload button.
  • When Overcharge is below 25%/10 Overcharge/first marker on the bar, Venting does not deal damage.
  • During Venting, you take Venting Damage every 1 second.
    Venting Damage = 2 + Current Overcharge / 12
  • Venting Damage can be reduced by most types of damage reduction, except Unchained passive Blood Magic.
    - Under Pressure (Ironbreaker)
    Under Pressure Basic
    • Under Pressure is an Ironbreaker talent. It changes Drakefire weapon power & Drakefire weapon Attack Speed depending on the Overcharge level. Removes the high Overcharge slowdown penalty.
    • At 0 Overcharge, Drakefire weapons have -80% power and +100% Attack Speed.
    • Every 3 Overcharge Drakefire weapons +20% power and -15% Attack Speed. This effect can stack up to 10 times, maxing out at 30 Overcharge.
    • At 30 Overcharge, Drakefire weapons have +120% power and -50% Attack Speed.
    • The power modifier changes Drakfire weapons direct damage and stagger power, does not change cleave or DoT damage.
    - Reckless Haste (Battle Wizard)
    Reckless Haste Basic
    • Reckless Haste is a Battle Wizard perk. It increases staff charge speed up to 30% depending on the Overcharge level.
    • It increases staff charge speed by 10% every 6 Overcharge, maxing out at 18 Overcharge.
    - Critical Mass (Pyromancer)
    Critical Mass Basic
    • Critical Mass is the Pyromancer passive. It increases critical strike chance based on Overcharge level up to 30%.
    • It increases critical strike chance by 6% every 6 Overcharge, maxing out at 30 Overcharge.
    - On the Precipice (Pyromancer)
    On the Precipice
    • Critical Mass is a Pyromancer talent. It increases range power by 15% when at or above critical Overcharge
    • It increases the range power at 30 Overcharge. The range power increases direct damage and stagger, does not affect cleave or DoT damage.
    - Unstable Strength (Unchained)
    Unstable Strength Basic
    • Unstable Strength is an Unchained perk. It increases melee power on high Overcharge by up to 60%.
    • It increases melee power by 12% every 6 Overcharge, maxing out at 30 Overcharge. The melee power increases direct damage/stagger/cleave, does not affect DoT damage.

    - Similar System: Energy(Moonfire Bow)
    Energy Basic
    - Energy is an alternative system to ammo, unique to Kerillian Moonfire Bow.
    - Attacks made with Energy weapon will drain the Energy meter by a certain amount, which varies per attack.



    - Max Energy is 25. Energy is represented by a bar where the blue meter represents the remaining Energy.
    - After 0.2 sec delay, Energy will slowly generate over time when you stop draining them, even if you have another weapon out. The Energy will generate at 1.5 energy/sec.
    - If Energy is completely drained, the Energy weapon will be locked out for 5 seconds.
    - Any amount of Energy can also fulfil the requirement of one action. This means even if there's only one Energy left, you can still release one attack.
    • However, keep in mind during lockout, even if there is Energy left you cannot use the weapon. Thus you should never completely drain the Energy for DPS purposes, always save some for emergency.

    Damage Over Time(DoT) and Explosion
    - DoT and Explosion Basic
    DoT Basic
    - DoT in Vermintide 2 are debuffs applied to enemies that deal damage every tick for its duration.
    - Most DoT cannot crit/headshot. Except for Hagbane Shortbow Direct Hit DoT and all Moonfire Bow DoT, their DoT damage increase when arrows land a critical or headshot.
    - All DoT does not benefit from enemies being staggered.
    - A DoT has a defined Max Stacks, Duration, Tick Rate, Damage Profile.
    • DoT Max Stacks decide how many stacks of a specific DoT can be stacked on one unit. Each individual attack that can apply a DoT will apply one stack of DoT. DoT can have either limited Max Stacks or infinite Max Stacks.
    • DoT Duration decides how long the DoT debuff lasts on enemies. DoT with limited Max Stacks refreshes all stacks duration together when applied. DoT with infinite Max Stacks cannot refresh its duration, but each stack will tick through their Duration individually.
      • Moonfire Bow is the only exception. All three of its attacks use a special tick system, dealing 2/4/6 ticks of damage depending on the attack.
    • DoT Tick Rate has a base rate and will variant ±25%. The variance is calculated per tick. This causes dots to have inconsistencies with total damage dealt due to losing a tick or more rarely gaining a tick.
    • DoT Damage Profile decides the damage dealt of the DoT. Some dots use the same Damage Profile. For chargeable attacks like Conflagration Staff and Fireball Staff, when the DoT is applied it inherits the attack's scaled power multiplier.

    - There are four types of DoT: Bleed, Burn, Hagbane Poison, Blackvenom Poison.

    Explosion Basic
    - Explosion in Vermintide 2 are attacks that apply to all enemies in an area in one instance, ignoring enemy mass.
    - All Explosions cannot crit/headshot. All Explosions go through shields. but their effect may be less impactful after going through shields.
    - Not all Explosions deal damage or deal damage directly. E.g Mercenary career skill Morale Boost is an Explosion that doesn't deal damage; Battle Wizard career skill Fire Walk is an Explosion that doesn't deal damage directly but apply DoT and leaving a damaging fire trail. In this guide, only Common Explosions that deal or indirectly deal damage are mentioned.
    - An Explosion has a defined Maximum Effect Radius, Minimum Effect Radius, Damage Profile.
    • Maximum Effect Radius decides the radius where enemies take the most amount of damage/stagger. Explosion effect inside Maximum Effect Radius does not drop off with range. Some Explosions only have Maximum Effect Radius.
    • Minimum Effect Radius decides the radius where enemies take less damage/stagger and the largest radius the Explosion can still affect. Explosion effect inside Minimum Effect Radius drops off with range. Some Explosions don't have Minimum Effect Radius.
    • Damage Profile decides the damage and stagger effect of the Explosion. Explosions may or may not use different Damage Profiles inside Maximum and Minimum Effect Radius.

    - There are three types of Explosion: Melee Weapon Explosion, Range Weapon and Item Explosion, Hagbane Shortbow Explosion.

    • When stacking multiple DoTs with limited DoT Max Stacks but different DoT Template(Max Stacks/Duration/Tick Rate/Damage Profile), all DoTs will stack. For example, Dual Daggers Light Attacks/Push Attack DoT will stack with Witch Hunter Captain Flense DoT.
    • When stacking multiple DoTs with limited DoT Max Stacks and same DoT Template(Max Stacks/Duration/Tick Rate/Damage Profile), only the latest applied DoT will work. For example, Waystalker Serrated Shot does not stack with Witch Hunter Captain Flense DoT. If Flense is applied after Serrated Shot, the moment Flense is applied, Serrated Shot will stop doing damage, but Flense will and inherent per-existing Serrated Shot stacks.
    • When stacking Burn DoTs on a target that has already received Lingering Flame DoT, only Burn DoTs from other sources can stack. The owner of Lingering Flame DoT cannot stack any more Burn DoTs, but may replace previous Lingering Flame Burn DoT with a newer one that has higher DPS.

    - Blackvenom Blades (Sister of the Thorn)
    Blackvenom Blades Basic
    • Blackvenom Blades is a Sister of the Thorn perk. It allows melee attacks apply a Poison that deals damage and increasing damage suffered by 12% for 10 seconds.
    • The Poison can be applied on hit, without damaging the target.
    • Poison deal 0.25 damage per tick to most of the units. Deal 0.5 damage per tick to most of the units with Strength Potion.
    • Poison deal 0 damage per tick to Chaos Warrior/Boss/Lord. Deal 0.25 damage per tick to Chaos Warrior/Boss/Lord with Strength Potion.
    • Damage increase effect always works and works on the first hit that applies the poison, no matter if the poison can deal damage to the target unit or not.

    Lingering Flame Basic
    • Lingering Flame is a Battle Wizard talent that changes the behavior of Burn DoT applied by Battle Wizard.
    • Lingering Flame keeps the Burn DoT Tick Rate/Damage Profile, changes the Max Stack to 1 and increases the Duration to indefinitely until enemies die.
    • The Lingering Flame can be reapplied if next Burn DoT has higher DPS DoT. After receiving a Burn DoT from Battle Wizard, if the next Burn DoT has higher DPS, Lingering Flame will use the new Burn DoT Tick Rate/Damage Profile instead.
    • Currently, Coruscation Staff Fire Pit Launch Attack DoT or Ground DoT can be kept and stacked with one other Lingering Flame DoT.

    • Fire from Ash is a Battle Wizard talent. It reduces Battle Wizard career skill cooldown by 1.2 seconds/3% each time she kills a burning enemies.
    • The burn effect on the enemies does not need to be applied by Battle Wizard. But Battle Wizard needs to land the killing blow.
    • The cooldown refund effect can only be triggered every 0.5 second.
    - Chain Reaction (Unchained)

    • Chain Reaction is an Unchained talent. It makes burning enemies have a small chance to explode on death.
    • The burn effect on the enemies does not need to be applied by Unchained. But Unchained needs to be the one landing the last hit.
    • The chance to trigger the explosion is 40%. The explosion will happen in the dead enemy position.
    • The explosion does not deal damage, only stagger.

    @Petrichor Currently lingering flames also increase dot tickrate by 100%, so it makes all fire dot:
    1) last forever
    2) can only have 1 stack
    3) tick twice as often

    Does anyone know what fatshark meant when they said "Increased the damage of 'Lingering Flames'" in the dev blog for the 2023 rebalance pass? There were no details so I don't know how or by what amount the damage changed.

    In the old patch, famished flame reduce all none dot damage, which includes self damage dealt like venting/exploding, you can survive explode with 120hp and famish alone, plus DR used to work on it too.

    Yes, venting is still affected by DR. They shouldn't, but FS hasn't fixed it.
    The explosion change was done Patch 4.6, March 15th 2022.

    Sorry, my bad, just checked, fatshark patched it, used to be able to survive the overcharge as battle wizard for some reason, but not anymore. And also, does barkskin and soot shield works for venting?
