Summons
Summon, also known as Call, is a command ability in Final Fantasy IV exclusive to Rydia. It allows her to summon Eidolons in battle to deal damage or cause effects. The charge time for the command varies per summon. There are 15 summons available in Final Fantasy 4: Pixel Remaster, notably excluding Whyt - an addition exclusive to the DS version of the game. More information on specific acquisition methods is provided underneath.

Summons in Final Fantasy IV are acquired in four ways:
  • Story progression (automatically learn)
  • Side Quests
  • Defeating Eidolons in battle (secret bosses)
  • Earned from item drops (rare drops)

Summon Demonstration:

In the Pixel Remaster version for FFIV Learning every summon unlocks the steam achievement "Summon Collector".
Rydia / Summon
Rydia sometimes referred to as Rydia of Mist, is a playable character in Final Fantasy IV. She is a Summoner from the village of Mist, and is one of the most prominent characters.

Rydia is playable in two forms, firstly as a child and later on as a summoner. In both forms, Rydia can learn every Black Magic spell, both have high magical stats with low physical stats, and both can equip whips, rods, daggers, clothes, robes, hats and armlets (with the ability to equip bows in the 2D releases). As a child, Rydia is also capable of casting a few White Magic spells depending on her level and equipping staves. As a summoner, she is capable of summoning many Eidolons making her magic more geared towards offense.

Rydia also appears as a boss briefly in a scripted encounter with Cecil and Kain at Mist.
Siren (Call Rare Monster)
Siren is an item that forces the player into a battle with the rarest enemy group in the current map. It can be found in the Giant of Babil, Cave of Trials, and the Lunar Ruins (as part of the Mech Set). Siren can be very useful when trying to acquire summons through drops.

Dropped from:
  • Tunneler (Underworld, Sylvan Cave)
  • Arachne (Land of Summons, Cave of Trials)
  • Alraune (Underworld, Lunar Ruins)
  • Security Eye (Tower of Babil Underground)
  • Searcher (Giant of Babil)
  • Green Dragon (Tower of Babil, Underworld, Lunar Ruins)
  • Yellow Dragon (Lunar Ruins, area south of Sylph Cave (Mystery Egg), Sealed Cave)

Stolen from:
  • Security Eye (Tower of Babil Underground)
  • Searcher (PR Version) (Giant of Babil)

Purchased:
  • Merchant in Hummingway Home on the Moon for 3000 Gi

Edge / Steal command
Edge is a playable party member. He is a Ninja, who has high Speed, Evasion and physical stats, but low defense. His abilities are Steal, Throw and Ninjutsu. Steal allows him to steal some items from enemies, Throw allows him to throw offensive items to deal heavy damage, while Ninjutsu allows him to cast magic that hits all enemies. Edge having the Steal command alludes to the Thief class upgrading to the Ninja class in the original Final Fantasy. Edge can steal an unlimited number of Sirens in a single battle. When gathering the item siren Edge can be used to steal them from Security Eye in the Tower of Babel Underground Floor 7ish and from Searchers in the Giant of Babil.

Note: Edge is not in your party when you first go through the Tower of Babel and it and it becomes inaccessible after you leave. However, There is a glitch in that lets you re-enter the lower section when you return to the Underworld. Immediately after the event where you steal the Falcon airship, you can land it and take Edge back into the Tower. Once you leave the tower it will never be accessible again.

A: NO, there are 15 summons available in Final Fantasy 4: Pixel Remaster, notably excluding Whyt - an addition exclusive to the DS version of the game

Q: Do I need to collect the item Siren to obtain summons?
A: No, although using siren can greatly decrease the amount of time you spend grinding through random battles, every summon that requires an item drop can be accomplished without the use of siren.

As Cardboard Decoy said, you can still get Sylph later. I got them after loading an end game save.

I can confirm you can still get Sylph if you forget to get the kitchen knife before the first moon trip. dunno if this is new in PR or not but I totally forgot about how *Spoiler* shows up later and was kicking myself, went back anyway to try and get all the treasures and talking to the Sylph on the left will still give it to you.
