Pick & Choose Mods for Skyrim SE Anniversary Upgrade

A place for many *New mods that came out for Skyrim SE since the big Anniversary Edition upgrade on 11/11/2021. Also includes some long time pre-upgrade mod favorites as well as Creation Club mods and patches. Plus Tutorials.

With many asking which mods will work with the recent Skyrim SE upgrade this list is also useful to those new or fairly new to modding (and long time mod users) and also clears up some of the version differences since not all existing SE mods that came out pre-upgrade will work with the latest version of Special Edition.

Note that previous versions of SSE's pure texture / mesh mods should work with Anniversary upgrade as well so are not included in this list but I've also included a Link to the Steam Forum thread created by cfs111 listing some of our long time favorite Skyrim SE mods that have been confirmed to work in the new Anniversary Upgrade.

Although the info is still good this Guide is a bit dated however I have some ideas for it going forward. Might use it for alternate setups for certain sections of my guides. For example if someone wants to use a UI setup with Dear Diary Dark Mode as opposed to what a particular guide uses.

Skyrim SE UPDATES

Skyrim SE version 1.6.323 received update on Monday 12/13/2021 to new version 1.6.342

Any mod that relies on the Script Extender (SKSE) with a .dll plugin will need to be updated as well.

What does this mean?
This means current SKSE version "Preliminary AE build 2.1.4 (runtime 1.6.342): 7z archive"
is the latest version HOWEVER "if" your current modded game was protected from the update you are fine as long as you don't update your game or install a mod that relies on SKSE. Make sure any mod you download that specifically relies on SKSE is for the correct version of SKSE. We always must be version aware of both our game and our mods.

My thoughts on downgrading to SSE version 1.5.97
Downgrading means you have already either updated or upgraded Skyrim Special Edition (SSE) to version 1.6.xxx and because of this you should stick with the version you have installed. #1 the latest version of the game is the version that is supported. #2 Why go through all the work of downgrading if it does not go smoothly and then maybe having to rebuild your load order when in that same time frame a fix or an update will come out. #3 In some cases you will not find your favorite mod available for pre-updated SSE v1.5.97 like for example the USSEP and if by some chance you have or find an older version it more than likely is no longer supported as is the case with the USSEP.

So what should I do
Protect your game from updates just as we have always done in the past. This way you can play uninterrupted with your game in tact until you decide to update it - until the mod authors have updated their mods for the latest version.

Mods from 1.5.97 that work with 1.6.3xxx

Wondering if some of your favorite mods from the Pre-Upgrade will work with v1.6.xxx?
Mods that only require SKSE but do not have a SKSE plugin (".dll") file are not impacted, once you have updated SKSE to the latest version. Most Texture and Mesh Mods will work with no problem. Also see list below.

What's included in this guide?
This guide covers new mods that have been released since the 11/11/2021 upgrade for both the updated Skyrim Special Edition and the purchasable Anniversary DLC bundle for Skyrim Special Edition.

Confused?
As of the 11/11/2021 update, the base game now includes the following:
Creation Club's Saint and Seducers, Rare Curios, Fishing, and Survival Mode. Also the Hearthfire, Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLC's.

The Anniversary upgrade is a purchasable bundle:
a bundle of CC content which is purchasable and added onto the game like a DLC.
The game with this purchased DLC bundle is still Skyrim Special Edition.

FYI: Note that there is no way to 100% safely remove any mod from a running Skyrim game. The only safe method would be after uninstalling to then revert to a save made prior to installing the mod.

ATTENTION NEW MOD USERS: I do not recommend using mods from the in-game menu. Download & Install your mods from Nexus mods (see above) and take some time to learn how to properly use a mod manager. You will save your self hours and hours of time in the long run.

Nordic UI - Start Menu Anniversary Edition Fix[www.nexusmods.com] Skyrim AE only. With Skyrim Anniversary edition, the start menu background from Nordic UI wouldn't show upon starting the game. This simply fixes that!

CC Myrwatch Bug fix-Anniversary Edition[www.nexusmods.com] ix the structures that present problems, such as (see images) "visible" water flowing through the structure, badly placed mountains, empty spaces where you can fall and not be able to get out anymore. Make it compatible with Ussep. Modified collision boxes to avoid problems with NPCs. 2 versions - USSEP and non USSEP.

Mage Armor Script Fix[www.nexusmods.com] So, have your experience massive lag when fighting multiple mages and you are not sure why? It might be because you have mage armor active. This is a fix to mage armor's script that cause all the lag. SE & AE.

CC Bow of Shadows Lingering Invisibility Fix[www.nexusmods.com] This fixes the issue where the player is stuck with the MagicInvisibility keyword immediately upon retrieving the Bow of Shadows from Creation Club.


Survival Mode Improved[www.nexusmods.com] Survival Mode improved brings lots of balance tweaks and improvements. There has been heavy changes to Survival Mode to bring it in line with how I believe a needs mod should play. Gameplay balance should be somewhat similar to SunHelm. So if you like that mod, hopefully you will enjoy this one as well for other reasons.

Fixes reported CTD's at Silus Vesuius's house, Dawnstar Museum and Kolbjorn Barrow.
Skyrim Special Edition 1.6.342 Corrupted Texture Fix[www.nexusmods.com] MAJOR FIX - Replaces the 3 corrupted textures with edited vanilla files. They have a 0.03% change in contrast. To be used loose until Bethesda patches the corrupt BSA from update 1.6.342
Fishing
Fishing iNeed Compatibility Patch[www.nexusmods.com] Patches raw fishes added by the new Fishing CC that are missing the VendorItemFood keyword so that they can be assigned iNeed hunger attributes.

Dawn of Skyrim - CC Fishing patch[www.nexusmods.com] Patch resolves some conflicts and issues between Dawn of Skyrim (Director's Cut) SE and new Creation Club / Skyrim Anniversary Edition content - Fishing. It changes position of some elements and markers to match environment modified by Dawn of Skyrim.

Epic Fishing Rods[www.nexusmods.com] This will allow you to enchant the fishing rods added by the Fishing Creation, which was previously not possible. Ever wanted a fishing rod of drain health? Go ahead. A rod that steals your enemies' souls? That's right. You can be the ultimate badass now, be the awesomest fisherman today!

Power of Creation - Fishing[www.nexusmods.com] This mod will alter the enchantments of the various items added in through the Creation Club add-on "Fishing". If you find one or two of the rewards within this content to be disappointing or think they can be better, look no further for I aim to do just that.

Temper Fishing Rods[www.nexusmods.com] Simply adds tempering recipes so you can improve the fishing rods from the Fishing creation. Now also enchantable!

L.V.X Magick's - Fish Anywhere (Skyrim AE - SSE)[www.nexusmods.com] Now you can literally fish anywhere you want, with new mechanics you don't have to stay at the fishing spots CC wants you to. Adds a Lesser power to fish when you have the Fishing rod.. Has All the different biome Fishes.
Q: Will this work with the down grade patcher? A: If you have the Fishing .esl & .BSA it should.

The Dragonborn's Aquarium[www.nexusmods.com] (ESL) requires the "Fishing" creation from the Creation Club, as well as the updated version of Skyrim as it uses the Ayleid set that was added in the latest update. Do you want to fish but can't seem to appreciate the one or two fish tanks that you have in your cellar? Collect your fish and show them to the world in the brand new aquarium that is just waiting for your fish!

Fishing Map Markers[www.nexusmods.com] adds map markers and fast travel points for all of the exterior fishing sites across Tamriel.

Hearthfires Unique Display Rooms - CC Fishing Patch[www.nexusmods.com] This patch allows access to the rooms created by Unique Display Rooms while still maintaining the new aquarium added by Anniversary Edition.

The Skillful Fisherman - Fishing gives skill (Creation Club Addon)[www.nexusmods.com] Fishing in Skyrim now give a small amount of skill progression (One Handed, Alchemy).

Reliquary of Myth - Fishing Patch[www.nexusmods.com] Patches up the conflict between Reliquary of Myth and Fishing's Warlock Ring.

Weightless Fish (CC Fishing Required)[www.nexusmods.com] Makes fish from the base game and from the CC Fishing have zero weight.

Amber Creek Fishing Spot[www.nexusmods.com] You know what Falskaar was missing? The new fishing minigame. Now it has a fishing spot. Rejoice! You'll find it in Amber Creek near the Lumbermill. It's ESl flagged so it wont count toward your plugin limit.

Kanjs - Borderlands Style Fishing Retexture Anniversary Edition P1[www.nexusmods.com] This is all Borderlands Style Fishing mod textures for this series ! The mod author's 18th Borderlands Style mod for Skyrim.

Unofficial Creation Club Fishing Patch[www.nexusmods.com] Fixes an bug where records for the fishing mod get overwritten with Vanilla values by mods still patching for a Skyrim SE without the free Creation Club content.

Eli's Breezehome - Aquariums Addon (FishingCC)[www.nexusmods.com] Addon patch for Eli's Breezehome that incorporates 2 Aquariums from the Fishing Creation Club content.

The Great City of Solitude CC FIshing Patch[www.nexusmods.com] This patches the location of the CC Fishing Supplies at the Solitude docks to work with the Great City of Solitude. It simply moves the fishing supplies on the nearest dock, nothing else is changed. This can be installed on an existing save, but the fish that spawn with the fishing supplies will remain at their original location. A new save, however, will have the updated location. This doesn't touch the Great City of Solitude, so in an untested theory it could be used for other Solitude mods if the docks are in the right place.

Wield Clutter - Fishing CC Patch[www.nexusmods.com] Changes the clutter conversion recipe to craft the Imperial Fishing Rod. Replaces the fishing rods in bandit lists with Imperial Fishing Rods.

CC Goldenhills Plantation - Remove Shrine Cost in Survival[www.nexusmods.com] This fixes the bug where the shrine inside of the Goldenhills Plantation player home charges 100 gold every time that it is used in survival mode.

3D Ropes for Goldenhills Plantation[www.nexusmods.com] Replaces ugly unplayable 2D ropes with immersively stunning 3D ropes.

Important - the difference between update & upgrade: If you just "updated" Skyrim to AE you will ONLY get the four 4 creation club add-ons. If you buy the "upgrade" you will get a lot of creation club add-on to include the assets that many "AE ONLY" mods require.

Remember: If you did buy the AE "upgrade" then launching the game will greet you with a download screen for the creation club add-ons which you need to complete in order to use many of these mods. So if by chance you were not greeted with the download screen you will then need to log in to the Creation Club and simply download them manually.

FYI: not all CC will appear immediately, it appears naturally as you progress through the game, some are tied to level while others are tied to Main quest.

Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch[www.nexusmods.com] A comprehensive bugfixing mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Special Edition. The goal of the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch (aka USSEP) is to eventually fix every bug with Skyrim Special Edition not officially resolved by the developers to the limits of the Creation Kit and community-developed tools, in one easy-to-install package.

Cutting Room Floor 3.1.11[www.afkmods.com] A content restoration mod for Skyrim and the official DLCs. Content which was created but never implemented in the game. If ever you had the feeling that Skyrim was missing something, you were probably right! This mod should relieve a bit of that. Villages that were supposed to exist have been brought back. Quests that were partially implemented have been completed. Various items have been restored that were still in the data files. NPCs have been brought back to the game and given homes where appropriate. Plus plenty of other random bits of stuff that was mentioned in the game but didn't exist yet.

Ayleid Lich Crown - Cut Content Restored (Anniversary Edition - The Cause)[www.nexusmods.com] Implements the cut Ayleid Lich's crown, using a model adapted for use by all races.

Solstheim Caravan Trader[www.nexusmods.com] Creation Club Rare Curious Adds a Khajiit Caravan trader to Raven Rock. Provides an easy way to buy the 'Rare Curios' and other items added to the Khajiit Caravan merchant inventory when playing on Solstheim.

CC Horse Armor - No Blacksmith Dialogue[www.nexusmods.com] While playing SAE, this mod author found that the creation club horse armor adds in a new dialogue option when speaking to blacksmiths that allows the player to purchase armor for their horse. They felt that this extra dialogue option for every single blacksmith in the game cluttered up the interface unnecessarily. The workers at the stables will already sell horse armor to the player; blacksmiths selling horse armor feels needlessly redundant. This mod removes the option from blacksmiths so that only stable workers will offer horse armor.

The Adventures of Jake Morningstar (Anniversary Edition)[www.nexusmods.com] Follow in the adventures of Jake, A now deceased Nord explorer, who in his travels, left behind many exciting discoveries around the world of Tamriel. There is also a separate version of this mod for SSE.

Aniversary smelting alternative armors edition[www.nexusmods.com] recovers the material of the exclusive objects of the skyrim anniversary edition, only the alternative armors in which they are included are included [Compatible with Ars metallica or CCO]

Weightless for Anniversary Edition[www.nexusmods.com] "Changes Items under Miscellaneous, Potions, Scrolls and Books, Ingredients and Consumables, Rings, Amulets and Circlets have had their weight changed to 0 …. Improvement Names Customized AE[www.nexusmods.com] Replace vanilla customization strings with your own custom strings. Its the same as the older version, just updated for Skyrim Special Edition 1.6.X+ (AE) compatibility.

Anniversary Edition Level Requirements[www.nexusmods.com] Most of the Creation Club content is not only overpowered, it can also be acquired immediately. With this mod, you won't be able to get Dragonbone gear at level 1, since the quests have player level/questline requirements. Example: the Bow of Shadows quest requires you to have finished the Thieves Guild questline and be at least level 35.

On a Crimson Trail[www.nexusmods.com] A Creation Club integration mod for the Alternate Armor creations, distributing the armors across leveled lists at appropriate levels, and unifying the different quests into one major quest.

Skyrim Music Replacer - 10th Anniversary Concert Music (SE and AE)[www.nexusmods.com] A simple Skyrim SE/AE mod that replaces certain tracks in-game (and the main menu music) to the concert-performed versions from the 10-year anniversary video!

Character Light SE AE[www.nexusmods.com] it's a character light ESL with a bunch of shades, sort of like facelight but more like sslight. Light weight no scripts, player and npc equippable lights for screen shots, maybe immersive with the right shade.

Alternate Start - Live Another Life 4.1.6[www.afkmods.com] You've been arrested and thrown in the dungeons. Your trial was supposed to be weeks ago, only nobody has come for you. Live Another Life provides an alternative means to start the game for those who do not wish to go through the lengthy intro sequence at Helgen. You will be given the opportunity to choose your race and then choose a new life for your character to lead.

CBPC Equipment physics SE and AE[www.nexusmods.com] Allows bouncy CBPC physics to equipments.

Mordrid's Ring Of Power - Anniversary Edition (AE)[www.nexusmods.com] Adds a ring to the Hall of the Dead in Whiterun that adds - 25% more Bow damage, 25% Better smithing, Health Regen +75%, and immunity to disease/poison.

Completionist - Quest Tracker (SE-AE)[www.nexusmods.com] Complete MCM quest tracking of Skyrim, official DLC, Creation Club (Including Anniversary Edition) and a whole boat load of popular quest mods available here on the Nexus!

M'aiq The Liar Anniversary Edition (aka Modder's Edition)[www.nexusmods.com] Adds additional quirky not-quite-but-almost-fourth-wall-breaking dialogue lines to M'aiq the Liar celebrating 10 years of modding Skyrim.

In-Game Guide to Finding Creation Club Content in Skyrim AE[www.nexusmods.com] Adds a book to your inventory with detailed instructions on how to find all the Creation Club / Anniversary Edition content, because it's easier than exiting the game and scrolling through the Creation Club menu for a short description. I'm including this in the "AE &SE" section because the mod author says if you use the downgrade patcher to revert the game to the previous version as far as he knows, ALL the creation club stuff should still work. I haven't heard of anyone having issues with doing that. Most of it was released or developed long before the update anyway. It's literally 1 book and a fake "quest" which adds it to your inventory in the simplest way possible.

Katariah-Be-Gone (Ported from normal Skyrim.)[www.nexusmods.com] A utility which allows the player to banish the Katariah after the completion of the Dark Brotherhood questline. See mod page for Instructions.

Skyrim SE AE - Modern Weapons Polished V26[www.nexusmods.com] This is the Most up to date version of the Weapons mod. It contains a lot of weapons 109ish to install place the data file into Skyrim root directory.

Functional Fearsome Fists - Innate Unarmed Boost[www.nexusmods.com] Functional Fearsome Fists adds a perk when equipping any of the Fearsome Fists gauntlets that boosts your unarmed damage based on the gauntlets' material.

Harvest Flora and Find Ore - AE Update[www.nexusmods.com] This mod adds a small collection (3 classes so far) of convenience spells: "Harvest Flora", "Find Any Ore" and "Find Ore of [...]" see mod page for details.

Thieves Guild Armor Enchantments AE[www.nexusmods.com] Thieves guild /Shrouded armors merged into the one armor. Removed 2 useless enchants (Barter and Lockpicking) and replaced with more useful ones. See mod page.

Skyrim SE AE - Modern Weapons V51[www.nexusmods.com] This is the V51 (Version 51) of the Modern Weapons mod for Skyrim SE AE. There are roughly 203 weapons.

Note:
As you go forward remember this when you are deciding on 1K-2K-4K or even 8K textures. Indoors has very little if any bearing on the hit your system takes so keep that in mind if you're worried about performance issues (VRAM). I usually choose 4K inside & 2K outside although 4k is also usually best used on things that are large enough to see the fine details on, like mountains, dragons, city gates, etc. 4K for Weapons & Armors as well, but I would only use it on items that are going to be often in your view (although this time I took 2K for armor & weapons as well). Also, remember, pure textures which usually have no plugin (.esp) can safely be removed mid-playthrough then replaced with another. These are a couple of notes I wanted you to keep in mind. Shutt3r, the mod author of the very popular Noble Skyrim Mod HD-2K wrote a short article[forums.nexusmods.com] on texture choices. Check it out if you'd like more info on this.

HQ-Perks Interface SSE and AE A100N[www.nexusmods.com] Compatible with all perk mods. This modification changes the appearance of the Interface with Perks.
It's a completely redesigned look for the background behind the perk trees.

JS Dragon Claws AE (Anniversary Edition)[www.nexusmods.com] Adds NEW models and textures for vanilla & third party Dragon Claws. Comes in 1k, 2k and 4k Resolutions. For Skyrim Special Edition. Mod author says "This mod is unaffected by SE/AE updates"

HQ- Engraved Bottles SSE and AE[www.nexusmods.com] The modification improves the appearance of potion and poison bottles.

Auriel's Shield - My version SE-AE[www.nexusmods.com] non-ESP replacer for the Auriel's shield. Several styles 2K HD textures (from 1K/512 vanilla).

HQ-Dungeons SSE and AE[www.nexusmods.com] Replace all Dungeons textures 2k (BC7).

HQ - Caves SSE and AE[www.nexusmods.com] Mod replace textures for Cave more wariet and detailed 2k for optimal perform vs quality...

HQ - Farmhouse SSE and AE[www.nexusmods.com] A modification that improves the essential elements of houses and taverns with options.

SSE - Halfsized Textures - 10th Anniversary Edition[www.nexusmods.com] The ESM files should be placed in order 0 through 8 right after the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch by Arthmoor but it does not require that patch to work. How much performance gain you get all depends on what is inside your PC. I am on a year 2013 Windows 7 PC with an I3 CPU and Intel HD 4400 integrated graphics and this gives me an average FPS increase of 5 to 10 depending on what I am doing and it has stopped the CTDs which were occurring because of system overload.

FYI: once in game not all CC will appear immediately, it appears as you progress through the game, some are tied to level while others are tied to Main quest.

BUT FIRST - IF YOU'LL BE MODDING YOUR GAME DO THIS
(1) If your Steam Library is in the default location at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\... move your Steam Library to a place where Windows permissions cannot interfere. A good location is X:\Games\Steam\... where X is any drive you choose.
(2) IF USING SKSE. Be sure to set properties on skse64_loader.exe to Run as Admin.
(3) Be sure antivirus and firewall have exceptions/whitelisting for all game files and folders
(4) Uninstall OneDrive if it is syncing your \Documents folder as it will interfere with permissions on your save and ini files in \My Games

Even though Address Library was updated, as meh321 explains on it's mod page, the differences between 1.5.97 and 1.6.318 are too vast for Anniversary Edition (SAE). So he split them into 2 mods. Most mods that use the Address Library (AL) will need to update (remember, right now almost all mods that rely on AL are for Special Edition). The good news is once meh321 done, the Address Library will cover any updates to SAE v1.6.xx the same way it did for SSE v1.5xx.

This is all about installing the correct version of the Script Extender (SKSE). Key Binding can be an issue but that's a script extender problem and we're still waiting on another version of the Script Extender (SKSE). Also if using MCM Helper make sure you use the correct version:
1.5.97 = MCM Helper 1.3.0
1.6.342 = MCM Helper 1.3.2

Moral of the story: Be patient as to not ruin your game by installing an incorrect mod version. Once mods that rely on Address Library begin to post updates for SAE you must make sure you are using not only the current version but the correct version as well.

We've been through this before. This is why many long time mod users protected their game from updates and are still playing pre-updated Skyrim SE. If you are in a position to do so great, if not the best thing to do until updates are in is play vanilla SAE or use a minimal mod setup.

Here's a few texture Mods (and a widescreen fix) to add the above if you like:

1) Static Mesh Improvement Mod - SMIM [www.nexusmods.com] Choose Everything during install. SMIM covers so many details that other mods don't address.
Going Forward: Always choose AFTER SMIM for "Rules" in Vortex. Let everything you might add from now on that conflicts with SMIM to load after it.

2) Noble Skyrim (NSM) [www.nexusmods.com] choose 2K version
VORTEX RULE: AFTER SMIM . This mod gives all of Skyrim's architecture a complete new look by changing its textures to custom ones. Also retextures, landscape, dungeons etc. This and SMIM is our base.

3) NSM - SMIM Patch* [www.nexusmods.com] Patch is on same page as mod #8 (Noble) Look under the UPDATE Section and only download the first file. RULE: After everything Vortex asks.

4) Whiterun Wall Fix for Noble Skyrim Vanilla and Other Retextures[www.nexusmods.com] A simple mesh fix to get rid of the "melting" or "drooping" visual on interior walls in Whiterun when using Noble Skyrim or other retexture mods that make this problem visible.

FISSES
FISSES now has 2 versions - 1 for Pre-11/11/2021 and 1 for Post-11/11/2021

.NET Script Framework
NET Script Framework has not yet been updated for the Anniversary Edition of SSE

You can use the next mod down "Crash Logger" for, you guessed it, crash logs until NET Script Framework has been updated. See below.

Since "NET Script Framework" has not yet been updated for SSE 1.6.232 we do have something for crash logs since Fudgyduff ported over his mod from Fallout 4:

All creations have been updated for 1.6.xxx so their quest (if they have one) does not initialize upon leaving Helgen, or loading a save past Helgen. Content can be encountered organically across Tamriel, or if you want to know the specifics, this information is available in each items’ store description.
SKSE Plugin Status - Link
These depend of the Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE) in order to function. Many are likely to require an update each time the game (or SKSE) is updated.

The following list may or may not be completely up to date but should give you a good idea of why a mod you want or have in your load order is not working.

Previous attempt at modding?
Want to ensure you'll have less problems with your mod list
Skyrim AE can be a bit finicky so I'll post this here for anyone who has previously modded their game (failed or not) - this might look difficult but it's actually a simple process and will give you the best possible starting point before modding your game
If you are modding your game and want to start from scratch follow this 2 minute video to the letter pausing where needed. This is a simple but much needed process.

The video will also advise you to NOT install your game in Program Files which also is a must. Here is a list to properly set your game for modding:
1) If your Steam Library is in the default location at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\... move your Steam Library away from Windows UAC. A good location is X:\Games\Steam\...
"X" being drive you choose.
2) IF you'll be installing the "Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE)" set properties on skse64_loader.exe to "Run as Admin".
3) Make sure your antivirus and firewall have exceptions/whitelisting for all game files and folders.
4) Uninstall OneDrive due to it interfering with permissions on your save and ini files in your
Documents > My Games folder.

Downgrade Patcher
Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Downgrade Patcher[www.nexusmods.com] An automated patcher to downgrade your Skyrim install from the new AE version to the previous SE version, without redistributing files or requiring any sort of complexity. Just download this, and click "Patch" and it'll do the work.

Protect your game from updates
These steps will let you play uninterrupted

Step 1: Backup
Save copies of both your SkyrimSE.exe and SkyrimSELauncher.exe (which are located in your \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition folder) to a backup location/folder.
(you can also backup your 4 .esm's)

Step 2: Change Skyrim SE's update settings in your Steam Library to only update when launched. Then - Never launch Skyrim SE via Steam, only via the skse64_loader and only while Steam is running in the background.

What does this accomplish?
By taking the steps outlined above our game will not only remain intact/uninterrupted so we can continue playing until the appropriate mods that were affected by any game updates are updated, we can then, at that time or a time we choose, accept those updates and seamlessly continue playing.


By taking the steps above and then continuing to launch Skyrim SE ONLY thru the Script Extender (SKSE) your existing mods will all continue to work. Once the modding community has caught up with the changes you can then update your mods if you so desire. Some of us have been playing with no interruptions for years simply by following these steps so if you're happy with your current modded game you can choose to never update

Great guides. I am working on convincing myself to restart the game yet again (at least I haven't gone too far into the game this last restart) and so it is a good time to doubt my mod list and to, thus, look to reliable guides to help me build a new one.

I'm still on my last mod list as well (pre-11/11/2021) although I'll be building a new modlist for the upgraded game soon. I'm really waiting on RaceMenu at this point so I can make a new load order for the guide. Not sure if I'll replace the one in my current load order guide (which is linked above) or if I'll replace it or have two separate guides. In the mean time the modding community has been great.

Thank you for this impressive guide. I have not modified my current mod list which has not changed much for the past 2 years or more, apart from updates and additions, and SSEEdits that do not break saves. Looking to start building a new one for SSE-Updated or AE.

After doing a vanilla playthrough or testing, I am looking to start using AE or SSE-Updated as the new base game. Do you think this is too early to commit to now? I have read posts about getting the mod community to accept CC and AE as DLCs and make them part of the base game. for modding.

@billb3649 - slight yet important edit to my last reply. Turn off all horse features in Nether's Follower Framework if using it together with Convenient horses.

I am not currently using AE so I can't be a ton of help right now. For the "Quit" button you'll need to scroll all the way down. As for the horse mods I'd check out Convenient Horses but you'll have to read the comments in the post section to see what other users are saying about it's functions in AE. As for multiple followers in your party at the same time I hear Nether's Follower Framework works well but turn off all horse features.

I have been running new SSE and it does not have quit in system or return to menu!
I would like more than 1 follower and allow them to ride horses. Cant find good patch for this.
I do not mod but try lots of useful mods as I find them. Any help would be nice and will try to make work. Thanks
