But if you feel that nothing is happening, it might be a game bug and would need a restart from the beginning.
If you do replay it from the start, you can press Tab to go quicker through scenes you've already played, which is especially useful for buying everything in the shop the first time.
I've played it a good bit but eventually hit one too many game-breaking bugs and I got fed up with it.
Each girl has a maximum number of hearts at any given point in the story, and progressing the story for a girl will at certain points increase that max by 1 for that girl.
As for losing and gaining hearts, I think, while not visually represented, that each heart is actually divided into 4. So when you're losing or gaining hearts, as shown with the red and black hearts flowing up from a girl, you're losing/gaining 1/4th. So if you've done particularly bad by a girl, in order to gain a heart back, you need to do something good 4 times. Like complimenting the RM on 4 days.
Of course, you can apparently still softlock yourself, if a girl has no way of gaining hearts, as seems to be the case with the trainer.
There are no cheats except for the minigames and the things that can be bought in the Store.
It's possible that your game is bugged and only a restart from the beginning will fix it.
If it's frustrating you, then stop playing. It's not worth it.
When I tried this she woke up the second i touched her, and lost all my hearts
