By wihga
Are you friends having trouble with input lag when they join your co-op/multiplayer game? I had the same problem on both the original Quake and the remaster, here is how I fixed it.

Intro To This Guide
I bought this game to play COOP with my buddies. Hosting a COOP game in either the remaster or the original had me with no input lag, but my friends who connected with terrible input lag. In any game, especially Quake, input lag can make a game completely unplayable due to input unresponsiveness. Here I'll clearly outline how get rid of any network/netcode related input lag.
Main Guide
You and your friend(s) have to mirror some of these steps. You will both need ezQuake and LogMeIn Hamachi.

Download ezQuake from ezquake.com. You want the one outlined "Windows Full". Both you and your friend(s) will have to download and use it.

After you download it, drag and drop the contents into your Quake folder. You can find your Quake folder by right clicking Quake in your library, clicking "Manage" and clicking "Browse Local Files".

Download LogMeIn Hamachi from vpn.net

While it downloads, sign up for an account at https://accounts.logme.in/registration.aspx - you need one to use the program.

Install it as you would any other program, launch it and click the power button when prompted. You will then have to sign in using the account you made earlier. Create a new network using your choice of network ID and password. Have your friends sign up for and install Hamachi too (you both need it to play co-op/multiplayer together). It will be the same process, except they will click "Join an existing network" and input the ID and password you set your network to.

Launch Quake using the ezQuake.exe in your Quake folder.

Navigate to "MULTIPLAYER" -> "CREATE" to host a server.

(click on START COOP GAME to host a co-op game.)

With you and your friend(s) in the Hamachi network, have your friend right click on your computer's name in Hamachi and click "Copy Ipv4 address".

Have your friend open up the console using ~ (tilde). Have them type in connect [address they copied here] then press enter. If everything is right, they should pop right into your game.

You're Welcome 👍
Let me know if this guide helps you, or how I can improve it, or if you need additional help in the comments. I don't why co-op/multiplayer hasn't been more streamlined after all these years. Have a good one.

Wow that's really complicated. Wish these games would just... work.
