Welcome to the mediocre world of Swag and Sorcery! If you need guidance on your quest to save the King's hot costume, look no further. Or, well, I guess you can't really look that much further anyways since there's not a lot of other guides. Regardless, welcome!

I got Swag and Sorcery as part of Humble Choice, so thankfully, I didn't actually have to buy it for full price off of Steam. Please don't buy this game for full price. Please.

Why am I qualified to write for this? I've put around 20 hours in at time of writing and have every achievement, which is probably not what any sane person would do. God, I wish I had spent that time playing anything else, but hoohoo funny number go up.

This guide is a work-in-progress, meaning I'll be updating it from time to time with new information as I feel like it. Or if there's literally any interest at all? Who cares! I'm writing into the abyss and if you're reading this, hi!
Overview
Swag and Sorcery is a half-idle game, half-RPG, and doesn't really want to commit to either so it gets caught with the worst parts of both genres without exemplifying their upsides. You'll spend most of your time waiting for your heroes to be done with their mission so you can send them right back out again. Don't bother leaving it on in the background to idle - everything happens just a little too quickly for you to be able to idle and make progress, but it's just a little too slow to just stare at it while it completes. Ugh. Maybe put a podcast on or something?

Your gameplay loop is primarily going to look like this:
  • Unlock a new area.
  • Send heroes out on missions to gather materials and gold.
  • Spend materials and gold to obtain better gear.
  • Use this gear to grind on the area.
  • Unlock the boss, fight it, and complete a quest.
  • Repeat.

You'll get some additional side-quests thrown in there, as well as some contests, but generally this is what you'll be spending the next 20 hours doing.

For the most part, this is going to cover the main quest-by-quest progression, but there will be sections for achievements and the like.
ACT I Part I - The Tutorial
If you watch the cutscene, you'll see the Royal Adviser telling the King how terribly he's running the kingdom. The Narrator and the Kitty argue. It's not funny, but it sets up the main plot: you must find the King's great-great-grandfather's magical costume!

A most important mission
I would love to capitalize that header, but it's nearly all lowercase in-game, so we're subjecting ourselves to torment!

Your first quest is to hire an adventurer at the Guild. The giant yellow arrow should be unmissable.

Click on the guild, then click on Hire a new character. You'll spend all 100 gold you have on them. (Note that your starting character is randomized with every playthrough, each one having slightly different starting stats and their own unique skills later on. Check the Characters section for more info.)

Once you've hired your first hero, the Quest in the upper-left should look like this. Click on it, then click Complete for your reward of 20 Gold.

First fight
Next, you'll send your new hero to visit the Magical Forest. Click on their face that's hovering above the Guild, and drag it to the horse icon. This adds them to the party for their next adventure. Then, click on the Stable that they're next to. You'll see a preview of where you're going next - The Magical Forest. Just click on the green Fight! button towards the bottom to send them off. They might get their ass kicked, they might not, doesn't matter right now. All that matters is that they visit

Once you've sent them to the Forest, watch and wait while they complete their mission. You can't do anything to help them right now. Engaging. When they return, collect a petty 25 Gold as your quest reward.

Dressing wounds
Now, you learn to insta-heal your characters in the Church. Normally they heal over time, but that's disabled for the sake of the tutorial. Drag the camera to the left and click the Church. (You don't need to drag a character to the Church to heal them.) Once you click on the Church, click Heal to restore your character's health to full.

The Church is useful when you're making enough money to pay for the healing costs, but early game it can be a cash sink. Weigh whether or not it's useful to insta-heal or just wait.

Complete the quest for 30 Gold.

Basics of collecting
Here we see the first of many text errors within the game. While the flavor text asks you to gather three Chestnut Logs, you actually only need to gather two. You might've done that already when you sent your character out to the Forest, but if not, send them again to gather wood.

Complete the quest for 10 Gold and access to the Smithy I. (You get to keep the logs.)

Begin construction
Build a Smithy by clicking on the anvil icon with a yellow arrow floating above it. It'll cost two Chestnut Logs - the ones we got earlier for the last quest. Click the green Build button to construct it.

Complete the quest for 30 Gold.

Metalwork
Now, you must craft a set of Militia Greaves in the newly-built Smithy. These cost 2 Copper Ore to make. If you don't have the Ore, send your character off to the Forest again to gather some.

To craft the Greaves, you'll actually need a character to make the damn thing. Drag your character onto the Smithy, click the Smithy, click Militia Greaves, and finally click Craft. Wait 2 seconds, and your Militia Greaves have been crafted!

Complete the quest for 30 Gold, access to the Training Camp, and the Scythes fell apart side quest.

SIDE QUEST - Scythes fell apart
The Blacksmith wants 5 pieces of Copper Ore. Get them from the Forest.

Complete the quest for 200 Gold. (You don't get to keep the ores.)

Broad prospects
Here's the REAL fun part of Swag and Sorcery - most gear has a level requirement and a stat requirement. Thankfully, your Militia Greaves only have a level requirement of 2. Remedy this by clicking on the Training Camp and- wait, it hasn't been constructed. Gather 2 Chestnut Logs by sending your character into the Forest.

I'll use this opportunity to mention - you know how you can see all the loot you've picked up in an adventure by checking the upper left? Notice that one of the items is in a little brown baggie. This is your Loot bag. When you Retreat from a mission, you'll only keep a fraction of what you gathered - but you'll keep everything in the Loot bag! Change what's in the Loot bag by clicking on the item you want to put inside. Seriously, it took me until endgame to even figure that out. The Loot bag tutorial doesn't even tell you. If you've got good loot, Retreat is better than Defeat - losing means you drop everything, including what's in your Loot bag!

Build the Training Camp the same way you did the Smithy - click on the Straw Dummy icon and select Build.

Complete the quest for 30 Gold and a cutscene.

Persistent training
The flavor text has a throwaway line about selling crafted gear for money. This is actually one of the most lucrative ways to get cash in Swag and Sorcery.

Anyways, characters can only level up by spending money on them in the Training Camp. Spend 100 Gold on your character to bump them up to Level 2.

You'll want to keep leveling up your characters as you go further into the game.

Complete the quest for 90 Gold.

Time to dress up
Now we finally equip those Greaves. Click on the Guild, then click the Equip button beneath the character. Drag the Greaves from the list on the left into the empty Boots slot near the center.

Complete the quest for 90 Gold and access to the Hunting Lodge I.

Ready to hunt
Build the Hunting Lodge by clicking on the leather icon with the yellow arrow above it, then clicking the green Build button. It'll cost 4 Chestnut Logs. If you don't have them, you know the drill by now - grab 'em from the Forest.

The flavor text says that, to make a sword, you'll need a Chestnut Plank from the Hunting Lodge. However, these Planks were removed from the game, but the text was never changed. Cool. Still, the Lodge is useful, allowing you to create numerous ranged weapons.

Complete the quest for 40 Gold and the Impudent miller and Wolf hunting side quests.

SIDE QUEST - Impudent miller
The Blacksmith requests 5 Chestnut Planks. However, Planks were removed, so you need to give him 5 Chestnut Logs instead. Get them from the Forest.

Complete the quest for 400 Gold and the Forced vacation sidequest. (You don't get to keep the logs.)

SIDE QUEST - Forced vacation
The blacksmith requests 10 Copper Ingots. However, Ingots were removed, so you need to give him 10 Copper Ores instead. Yes, I know it says "copper ingots" in the upper left, but what else do you expect from Swag and Sorcery?

Complete the quest for a random helmet. I got an uncommon (green background) Militia Helmet with +2 Health and +8 Physical Damage Resistance, but what you get may be different. It's worth leveling your character to equip this.

SIDE QUEST - Wolf hunting
The Hunter challenges you to slay 4 Timber Wolves. Find them in the Forest.

Complete the quest for 300 Gold.

To arms!
Crafting a Militia Sword is as easy as crafting the Militia Greaves from earlier. Drag someone to the Smithy, select the Weapons tab on the left, and make one using two Chestnut Logs and two Copper Ore. Get the materials from the Forest, though if you completed the Side Quests already you should have them.

Complete the quest for 120 Gold.
ACT I Part II - The Owlguard
Mood
Now we learn about happiness. The happier your characters are, the more effective they are in crafting (better chances of crafting better gear!), in looting (better chances to find more items!!), and in combat (chance to attack TWICE!!!). Mood can make or break your adventures, so always always ALWAYS keep it topped off. It costs Gold to do so, but the returns are so valuable that it's always worth it.

How, you may ask? With the Spa. In the bottom-left of town you can find an icon of a dude in water. Click that to open the Spa menu, then spend the Gold necessary to improve their mood to full by pressing the green Relax button.

Complete the quest for 30 Gold and a higher group size for adventures.

Two-person job
Go to the Guild and hire another adventurer for 300 Gold. Once again, this is random, but who you get isn't important. What is important is that you can now send two characters off on a quest together!

Drag your new adventurer onto the second empty horse icon by the Stables. The order is important - it dictates who's up in front! The further right you are, the further front you will be. Remember that! In addition, characters who are behind others cannot attack unless they have a ranged weapon. You can make a Training Crossbow for pretty cheap at the Hunting Lodge, or a Simple Crossbow if you can afford it.

Send your two-character party out to the Forest. Win or lose, it doesn't matter.

Complete the quest for 110 Gold and Elite Monsters.

A real challenge
Now we learn of Elite Monsters. These monsters have higher stats than other monsters of their type! They also have a different color palette and a shiny gold star above them to show that they're special. However, Elite enemies also drop more loot. High risk, high reward, y'know?

Slay two Elite Ents in the Forest. There's no special way to get them to appear, just keep running the Forest and they'll show up eventually. Normal ones are green, elite ones are a sort of yellow-lime. Make sure you're crafting new gear for your characters, too. Running around naked won't get them very far.

Complete the quest for 100 Gold, access to the Fashion House I, and the Honored guests side quest, as well as unlocking random events.

SIDE QUEST - Honored guests
While the game asks for two Light Spears, you only need to craft one. It'll cost two Copper Ores and three Chestnut Logs.

Complete the quest for 150 Gold and 8 Wolf Pelts.

Following fashion
Build a Fashion House by clicking on the purple cap icon. You'll need four Chestnut Logs and four Copper Ores, as well as 400 Gold. Get materials from the Forest. If you're short on cash and don't have any Side Quests left, try crafting gear and selling it.

Complete the quest for access to the Laboratory I, as well as unlocking Competitions.

Field medicine
Build the Laboratory the same way you built everything else. You'll need 4 Chestnut Logs. Then, craft 5 Potions of Minor Healing using the Healing Leaves you've been grabbing from the Forest. If you don't have 10 of them... back into the Forest you go. They're dropped by Magic Mushrooms and Ents.

You can use the Potions in battle before completing the quest. All you need to do is craft them, not have them in your inventory.

Complete the quest for 75 Gold and a random reward. (I got 20 Healing Leaves.) (You keep the Potions.)

Keep things moving!
Equip a character with your new Potions at the Guild. There's a dedicated Potion slot. I find that it's usually best to give your Potions to whoever's up front. That way, they can stay alive longer to protect the back.

Complete the quest for 75 Gold and a random reward. (I got 10 Copper Ores.)

Useful jewelry
Now for accessories. Accessories are honestly some of the most broken pieces of equipment you can get, so you'll want to make them for everyone in your party. The starter's Healing Medallion gives some Max HP, as well as a random effect, such as damage resistance. However, you need to be level 5 to equip it.

Complete the quest for 75 Gold.

Winged horror
Now, for your test to see what you've learned - you must face the Owlman! As the boss of the Magical Forest, he seems pretty intimidating, but prepare well and victory may yet be yours.

... you can't fight him right away, though. Grind on Magical Forest until the Boss Bar hits 100%. Have fun, I didn't.

Here's what I had equipped to defeat the Owlman, in case you're stuck. (C = Common, U = Uncommon)
FRONT: Level 6. Militia Helmet II (C), Militia Breastplate (C), Militia Greaves II (C), Healing Medallion (U), Militia Sword (U), Potion of Minor Healing
BACK: Level 5. Scout's Hat (U), Scout's Jacket (C), Scout's Pants (C), Healing Medallion (U), Simple Crossbow (C), Potion of Minor Healing

If you don't have some of these recipes, you can get them as random drops when fighting in an area. Hover over the little scroll when you open up the Stables menu to see how many recipes you have left in an area.

Also, remember that every crafted piece of equipment is different. Two Militia Breastplates of Common quality can be crafted with different bonuses to health, from as little as +8 to as much as +38!

The Owlman (or Owlguard as his splash screen says?) is weak to Dark, although access to elements is pretty limited at the moment. It only attacks every other turn, so make sure your Mood is capped out for those extra hits before it retaliates.

Defeating him gives you a piece of Militia III armor, which might be useful for you. Or not. It's randomized.

Complete the quest for access to the Guild II, the Library, new locations, and a cutscene. Congrats!
ACT II Part I - The Undead Army
two new areas here. they say level, like, 5-24, but i beat them at level 15 or something

ive already played this game all day i cant keep going

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALRIGHT here we are, two days later, freshly renewed spirit ready to be crushed by the heel of bad game design. Also, I have Cookie Clicker running in another tab, so when my mind is being liquefied by the unending nothingness that is Swag and Sorcery, I have another, better, cheaper idle game to fall back on. Adventure awaits! Huzzah!

After clearing the Magical Forest, you're granted a Story Quest titled We need more heroes and two side quests. For once, we're running the Story Quest before the Side Quests, because it actually has some decent upgrades in there.

We need more heroes
"Hey, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, upgrade the Guild." Okay, got it. Guild II's up next. Navigate to the Guild and click on the tab in the bottom-left that looks like a house with an upwards arrow.

Whoops! Can't upgrade it! You're gonna need 4 Pine Logs. For once, I'm not following this with "grind for them in the Forest" - instead, grind for them in the Battlefield or the Dark Ruins! Oooooh, choices! Do you want to watch your characters fight in a spooky, stone-pathed, undead themed area? Or a... spooky... stone-pathed... undead themed... area. Hm.

You may notice that some of the enemies, like the Living Armor, have a metric ♥♥♥♥-ton of HP. (You can actually check their stats by clicking on them in combat, or by clicking on their pictures when previewing at the Stables.) This is where that whole "Retreat is better than Defeat" philosophy kicks in. When you send your characters out into the field, ensure that you do the following:
  • Click on the Pine Logs you gather to put them in your Loot Bag. You'll know it's done if the bag appears behind the item icon.
  • Push it a little, if you can, but...
  • ...retreat when things are looking close.
Gathering all these pine logs without dying is gonna be a royal pain. Just put them in your Loot Bag to ensure you keep any you gather, and retreat whenever things get dicey. If you're lucky, you might be able to gather the iron ore and such you need to get decent equipment.

Upgrading the Guild to Guild II actually gets you an extra Stables to send your characters out on missions. This isn't really useful, yet, but it becomes REAL nice when you get a third character.

By the way - you know how you can equip healing potions at the stables so you don't have to go into the menu every time you want your heroes to carry some? Each stables has its own unique potion stock. This can be useful or annoying depending on how far in you are, but it's something to keep in mind regardless.

Complete the quest for a random reward. (I got... 5 Pine Logs. Nice refund?)

Knowledge is power
Now it's time to get the most engaging piece of... gameplay, I guess, Swag and Sorcery has to offer. You must build the Library with... wait for it... 4 more Pine Logs! Noticing a pattern? Fortunately I got mine as a reward from the last Story Quest. Woo.

Complete the quest for a cutscene and 300 Gold.

Ancient arts
Alright, NOW we're getting somewhere! Kind of. I guess. The Library's access to Spells makes Swag and Sorcery no longer a stat block manager by allowing you to - get this! - INTERACT with the battles and influence their outcomes!

First, though, we must learn "Essence Absorption" from the Library, costing a meager 150 Gold and 30 seconds of our time.

Complete the quest for access to the wonderfully named Magic Store. C'mon, we get a Blacksmith and a Hunter's Lodge. Why not a Mage Tower? Sigh. Oh, and you also get the "The secret of the cube" Side Quest, too.

Energy collecting
Last one before we get back to the Side Quests, promise. Now that you have access to new Essence resources, we need to gather some to craft Mana for use in Spells. This coincides nicely with your new Side Quest, too - doing a spot of gathering in the Magical Forest will get you the Elusive Essences you require, so I'd recommend clearing The secret of the cube and The search must go on before actually doing this. I just think that they look better below this main quest.

Complete the quest for the Power of Fire I spell as well as forcing the mist back a little.

SIDE QUEST - The secret of the cube
5 Elusive Essence may sound tricky on the surface, but they're actually really common, and found in the Magical Forest to boot. A single run got me 8, and you only need 5 to clear the quest. You can honestly do this one before you complete Energy collecting.

Complete the quest for 300 Gold and The search must go on Side Quest.

SIDE QUEST - The search must go on
10 Weak Essence this time around, and these are a little trickier. They're dropped by enemies in the Battlefield and the Dark Ruins. You can do this one at the same time as Energy collecting.

I'm gonna crunch the numbers for you so you don't have to. Right now, you're looking at collecting 50 Weak Essence from the Battlefield or Dark Ruins, so strap in for a ride. You need 10 for The search must go on, and then another 40 to craft all the mana points you need to clear Energy collecting. You are going to want to remember your Loot Bag here. It's really easy to overextend with the Elite Ghost Warriors that can two-shot backline party members, so remember to Retreat and save that loot lest you waste your precious time. (Though if you're playing Swag and Sorcery, you clearly don't care that much about wasting your time. I could be learning to code right now. But no. Brain says post words for dopamine.)

If you get a Recipe drop, you might want to stow that in your Loot Bag instead of your Essences, since you usually keep a couple when you retreat. New recipes mean better equips, and swag knows you need that right now.

Complete the quest for 400 Gold and A bit of sorrow Side Quest.

SIDE QUEST - Rats extermination
kill 5 rats, man. thats it. find em on the Battlefield.
You'll probably complete this on accident when you're grinding for Essence.

Complete the quest for 400 Gold and access to the We need ghouls Side Quest.

SIDE QUEST - We need ghouls
Stab 10 Ghouls. The weird guys that crawl on six legs and claw you.
You'll probably complete this on accident when you're grinding for Essence.

Complete the quest for a random uncommon weapon and access to the Annual tournament Side Quest. (I got an Uncommon Bandit's Crossbow.)

It burns!
Ready to test out your new magic? With the 50 mana points you've crafted by now, you should be able to let loose a little on your foes. And your next Story Quest has you doing just that!

Cast Fire Arrow by opening your Spellbook in a mission. You'll find it in the upper right. Click Fire Arrow and then the enemy you want to snipe. It should deal 80-90 damage, which is pretty respectable given that it doesn't interfere with character turn order. Perfect for when you're on the ropes and need to get that extra bit of damage out before your characters are defeated. It costs 20 mana, though, so use wisely.

Keep researching things in the Library as you go along. Healing is real nice.

Complete the quest for 150 Gold and a random reward. (I got 2 Ghost Tears.)
ACT II Part II - The Return of the Grind
Progress is unstoppable
Research Heavy Hand I in the Library. This buff is insanely good in the early game, granting a FLAT +50 DAMAGE to every attack they make. Particularly useful for bosses, but ALSO for just grinding in the new stages when you're pretty low-leveled. It comes at a cost of 50 Gold, per character, per mission... so use it wisely.

Complete the quest for 150 Gold.

Victory through strength
Buy a buff for a character at the Spa. As I said before, it only lasts for one adventure, including if you retreat... so make the most of it! I'm also pretty sure you can only buy one buff at a time for a character.

Complete the quest for 150 Gold and to force the mist back a little further.

All the rage
Hope you've been saving up your Gold. You're tasked with upgrading the Fashion House into the Fashion House II, which costs 4 Pine Logs, 4 Iron Ore, and 2000 Gold.

Complete the quest for 300 Gold.

All the rage
Upgrading to Fashion House II unlocks a cool ONE recipe for you to purchase - the Frost Axe. At 32-42 damage, a bonus 7-10 Strength, and a bonus random stat, it's worth picking up... especially considering that they're guaranteed to be at least Uncommon rarity. And at a reasonable price of 300 Gold, to boot. Just note you need to upgrade your Smithy to a Smithy II to be able to craft it.

You have to buy it, anyways. Might as well.

You should also have a saucy little stockpile of Pine Logs by now. I'd recommend upgrading to Smithy II, Hunting Lodge II, Laboratory II, and building Magic Store I for a total of 16 Pine Logs, if you haven't already. Also, if you've got 900 Gold sitting around, consider hiring another Character from the Guild. While your two main heroes venture into the Battlefield and the Dark Ruins, your newbie can grind for stuff in the Magical Forest as it poses less of a threat. Just make sure to give them some cheap equipment and level them up to at least 3 so they don't die on their first mission.

As a reminder - make sure to keep making new gear and leveling your characters as you go along. Remember that you can also boost character stats in the Training Camp under the second tab. Also, note that newer, higher tier gear may still be worse than what you have equipped. At least you can sell worse gear for cash.

Complete the quest for a random reward. (I got 15 Iron Ore.)

SIDE QUEST - Family heirloom
You need to nab 15 Ancient Plates from the Living Armor that haunt the Battlefield. Not gonna lie, this one took me ages, partially because of how rough fighting them can be early on and partially because of the low drop rate. ♥♥♥♥.

Complete the quest for a random uncommon breastplate. (I got an Elegant Breastplate.)

Funny thing about rarity? Like I mentioned before, rarity doesn't directly make your armor better. It has a CHANCE of making it better. Required level and gold cost don't reflect stats. I mean, look at this garbage:

Elite bones
Kill some Elite Ghouls in the Battlefield. They don't appear in the Dark Ruins, so don't bother. No special ways to get them to appear. Just grind.

Complete the quest for 300 Gold.

Monsters week
Now we're guided to move into the Dark Ruins. 5 Elite Possessed. They're the ghosts taking control of human soldiers. You could try continually refreshing the area by retreating until you find an Elite Possessed, but I'm pretty sure this eats through your Happiness, and you need to run through the Dark Ruins for Stone of Regrets and Parasitoid Wasp Stingers anyways.

Complete the quest for 300 Gold and pushing the mist back further.

SIDE QUEST - A bit of sorrow
10 stone of regrets. Skeletons in Dark Ruins.

500 Gold, next quest in the cube line.

SIDE QUEST - Bad experiment
8 stinging skin. Ghouls in the Battlefield, though I already had the 8 from grinding before.

Random reward, next quest in the cube line. (I got an Epic [purple rarity] Scarecrow's Mask.)

SIDE QUEST - Annual Tournament
15 Parasitoid Wasp Stingers. Parasitoid Wasps in Dark Ruins.

Random rare weapon, next quest in the hunter line. (I got an Engineer's Musket, which is an INSANELY good weapon at this point)

War never changes
Alright, it's time for another boss fight. You and your crew have been tasked with eliminating the boss of the Battlefield... the terrifying... Big Boy. According to his data entry, he "didn't get enough female attention as a child". I'm quaking in my boots.

Don't underestimate him, though. Unlike most incels, Big Boy actually has attacks to watch out for:
- Close-combat attack that does 100 Physical damage.
- Attack on the whole group that does 70 Fire damage.
- Ranged attack that does 40 Dark damage.

Big Boy is the least resistant to Nature damage, and most resistant to Dark, but isn't directly weak to anything.

Before going into battle, ensure the following:
- Your party members have the best equipment that you have.
- Your party members are at full health and happiness.
- You have a healthy stockpile of Mana.
- Your party members have been buffed at either the Spa or the Church.

There are a couple different strategies you can roll with in terms of spells.
- Heal aggressively to try to tank through the damage.
- Use offense spells aggressively to eliminate as much HP as possible.
- Wait until Big Boy is almost dead, then use offense spells so Mana isn't wasted if you lose.

Here's what I had equipped to defeat the Big Boy, in case you're stuck. I got Potions of Plentiful Healing from a Random Event, the best you can craft at the time is Potion of Healing. (U = Uncommon, R = Rare)

FRONT: Level 9. Adept's Hood (R), Soldier's Breastplate (R), Soldier's Greaves (R), Stone Cold Stone (U), Forged Spear (U), Potion of Plentiful Healing, Heavy Hand BUFF
BACK: Level 9. Scout's Hat (U), Scarecrow's Shirt (R), Bandit's Pants (R), Whispering Shadows (U), Engineer's Musket (R), Potion of Minor Healing, Heavy Hand BUFF
SPELLS: Spam healing

Complete the quest for 500 Gold and a random reward. (I got 10 Ghoul Claws.)

Skull of Knowledge
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I think this is the first time a quest is actually capitalized beyond the first word. You have no idea how good it was for the soul to capitalize Knowledge. Oogh, hold on, let me do it again.

Knowledge.

Okay, I think it's outta my system. Once again you are given a quest to go slay a boss, but this time, it's in the Dark Ruins. My boss meter's only at 12%. Time to get on that grind I guess.

Alright it's been an hour or so and I finally got enough to take on the Skull of Knowledge. The boss splash screen calls it Dumbstruck. Top quality gameplay from Swag and Sorcery.

Setup is pretty much identical to Big Boy's. My characters were Level 10 and I just spammed Heal to help them tank through everything the Skull threw at them. I used like 90 mana on healing, so come prepared.

Complete the quest for 500 Gold, access to Guild III, new locations, and a cutscene.

See you in act three i guess.
ACT III - The Three Unrelated Areas
Now that you've defeated the Skull of Knowledge, you get into the real meat of the game. For starters, you now have access to three new areas: the Hot Springs, the Swamp, and the Underground City. Don't be intimidated by the Level 24-50 recommendation - you don't really have anywhere else to go. But before that...

Three comrades
First order of business is upgrading that Guild II to a Guild III. But you need Maple Logs! Gather some from any of the new areas you just opened.

If you head into the Underground City, keep an eye out for Kobold Blacksmiths, those dragon dudes with huge hammers. Their melee attack is decent enough to deal with, but their special ability deals huge damage to the entire party while also reducing their max HP for the rest of the mission. This SUCKS.

Gather a bunch of logs, and use this opportunity to upgrade pretty much everything else. You need a Smithy III for Moon Blouses (used in one of the next side quests), and I'm pretty sure you need a Hunting Lodge III to craft Gourd Supports.

Complete the quest to expand your party size to three, and force the mist back completely! Nice work! You also get a metric ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of sidequests to deal with so have fun. Oh, and your next main quest is straight-up "kill a boss" so it's not like you get any other main quests to do. I'll be putting that one off for later. Side quests ho!

SIDE QUEST:Unbearable loss
Whoops! They're all crafting side quests! At least things are getting changed up a little. You need to craft a Beetle-assistant amulet of Legendary (orange) quality.

With your newly upgraded Guild III, you can now send three heroes out at a time. Make sure they're all a decent level or something. Level 10 is a good starting point. While you're out hunting for amulet recipes, note that a lot of the amulets at this point in the game are unfinished. Meaning that you can craft powerful accessories with a required level of 0. This is a HUGE oversight and also one of the better ways to get massive amounts of stats quickly.

Complete the quest for a massive reputation bonus. There's a reason I haven't mentioned Contests until now. This renders most of them largely pointless.

SIDE QUEST: Special order
blouses boss. 3. need smithy III

SIDE QUEST: Grouds.
gourd support x5. hell.
POSTGAME
endless adventure (isnt actually endless)
Achievements

Hey, thanks boss! It only took me 20 hours to get every achievement, which may or may not have been a colossal waste of time, but at least I can wear it as a badge of honor. Similar to how eating an entire tub of mayonnaise in one sitting is, equally, honorific.

There's no freaking way I'm going to do everything to get all the achievements for this thing, but this was a joy to read.
