Recruitable Hex

解説
Ever get weirdly attached to a random prisoner you helped break out of jail? I sure did!

This mod simply causes Hex, one of the prisoners in Tengu's Vault, to automatically join you once you make it clear of immediate danger. I haven't touched her stats or equipment from vanilla, so she's an above-average recruit in most senses. Considering the powerful enemy you'll make in breaking her out, I figured that was fair enough!

The mod also adds a decent amount of dialogue, so you'll find Hex to be reasonably chatty, especially in the UC. Lines can repeat, a la Let's Talk, but I've tried to tune it so that she isn't spammy. Pair her up with her buddy and fellow escapee Luquin for best results. :)

Currently, she has interactions with:
Luquin
Espher
Headshot
Bo
Crumblejon
Pia
Beep

An import will be required if your game is ongoing, but be aware that importing doesn't always play nice with imprisoned NPCs and can cause them to despawn entirely. New game for best results.

Compatibility: The mod only touches Hex and a couple of biome entry dialogues, so it shouldn't interfere with anything. It might react weirdly with anything that greatly tinkers with Tengu's Vault.

Bugs: I -think- Hex is a name on the random list, so there's a possibility that if you recruit a game generated Hex and keep the name the same, they might start spouting her biome dialogue. Whoops!

I wasn't able to get her 'I see Samurai' etc dialogue to fire in testing, but it's coded the same as Hamut spotting slavers vanilla, so it should function as intended.

Finally, if you enter combat as her recruiting dialogue starts, it will get interrupted and subsequently prevent her from joining. This I believe is a vanilla bug, but if there's a way around it I'll happily implement the solution.

Let me know if you encounter any issues with the mod and I'll look into them.

To do:
More interactions with other recruits.
Additional world state comments.

Picking up prisoners can sometimes break their escaping logic/AI, so it might be that!

Any idea if this mod requires proper way of recruiting her? So I sneak into the vault, lock pick the cage and carry her out to the open field, then only remove her shackles.

Ran with her to a further distance she just say "think we're safe, guess we will split here, see you around"

@myrtle.sorensen - much appreciate the comment and I'm glad the sammy spotting worked for you. I'm itching to get back to my good computer and play some more kenshi and add some more dialogue.

You might just need to be persistent on the dialogue triggers. At current they're very tied to the UC and specifically slave camps and the Heft region. During testing I was able to get her dialogue with Espher to fire and the slave camp attack stuff with Luquin to work. Most of the other stuff relates to Hex chiming in on existing dialogues, and other characters are able to speak there, so it wouldn't be her every time (I use Let's Talk that lets more dialogues repeat, which increases those chances)

I was pretty sure that someone who decided to make Hex recruitable has perception of this game similar to mine - and I wasn't wrong. I really like your interpretation of her personality. She's lore-friendly and just accurate in being both tough and compassionate. Good job.

BTW - yep, samurai-spotting works fine. And other Hexes should not share her unique dialogue, because in editor you assign dialogue lines to a specific character. But I think I never saw her talking with other uniques, and I often team her up Lu, Bo and Espher.

@lepusrex glad it's working out for you! I sort of felt similar that she kind of just never finished the second part of her own story, which made it feel like a missed opportunity.

Thanks! Works great. Every time I’ve ever set her free, I later found her dead in the desert, or choking to death on poison gas with her pals. Now she’s got a chance.
