How to perform a "perfect lightsaber block".
Autorstwa: =CrimsoN=
Ever notice how when fighting with a lightsaber character against another lightsaber wielding character, it is difficult to block their attacks and seemingly random when you do? This guide will show you how to perform a perfect lightsaber block, which is guaranteed to block an opponent's lightsaber (and lightsaber throw). This is very helpful in heroes vs. villains mode or during regular instant action if you have a NPC heroes mod.

What is the "perfect block"
The perfect block was discovered in 2007 by the Heroes vs. Villains Battlefront 2 Community. Basically, the perfect block is a lightsaber block which will block all other lightsaber attacks, even if the opponent is behind the defender or against multiple opponents. Perfect blocking can only be performed by lightsaber wielding heroes (or villains). Perfect blocking can also block lightsaber throws! Perfect blocking is especially helpful for the Heroes vs. Villains mode or regular instant action with NPC heroes enabled. For this tutorial, I'll be using the instant action map, Geonosis: Dust Plains to demonstrate perfect blocking with Mace Windu vs. Count Dooku using a mod that enables AI heroes on instant action maps.

If you are interested in the NPC heroes mod that I used, you can find it here:

How to perform a perfect block
Performing a perfect block is very simple. To perform a perfect block, all you need to do is aim your hero towards the center of the map and block. Yes, it is just that simple! There is some science behind how it works involving angles of the map. If you are interested, then you can find out more information here in regards to how it works. But the most reliable method is to aim towards the center of the map. This includes positioning the camera towards the center of the map as well. In fact, the camera must stay positioned towards the center of the map for a perfect block to work. Even if your opponent is behind you.

Here is a demonstration of the perfect block performed by Mace Windu against Count Dooku on Geonosis: Dust Plains:

Here is an overlay of the Geonosis: Dust Plains map. The red dot towards the center of the map is where you want to angle the defender

From here I am angling Mace towards the center of the map

Count Dooku engages and Windu blocks

Without moving from the original angle, Windu will continue to block until he runs out of stamina

By maintaining this position, Windu will block all of Dooku's attacks even if Dooku is behind him. This is the perfect block
Video demonstration
Here is a video demonstration of the same perfect block example but from the south end of the map:
Limitations
There are some limitations towards the perfect block, first and most important being stamina. Just like how regular blocking drains stamina, performing a perfect block will use just as much stamina and can't be done indefinitely. So it is important to watch your stamina and wait for an opportunity to retreat or attack between your defense and the opponent's attacks. Each hero has a move set and there is a small amount of time between each move set that leaves the opportunity to counter-attack.

Another important point regarding perfect blocking is that it only works in lightsaber vs. lightsaber duels. Against blaster opponents, you still need to be facing the opponent to deflect their blaster shots. In other words, you can't block shots from behind. You have to be facing the blaster opponent to deflect. But against lightsaber opponents, as long as you're facing the center of the map, you will block all their attacks. Even if they are behind you.

Last point is that perfect blocking can block several force abilities, including force push, force pull and lightsaber throw, but it will NOT block force choke. Force chokes can be "blocked" by force running and blocking at the same time. Also, I do not think perfect block can be used to block techniques like Windu's shatterpoint (aerial slam) attack or Palpatine's force lightening slam attack.

Hey thanks! Totally didn't even know about the Aayla trick. Definitely going to have to try that out!

Definitely going to thumbs up and reward though for the fantastic explanation.

With characters like Aayla you actually get around 160 degrees or so of aim to the center of map (forget the actual number) that you can almost be invincible with cb. Just stuff like that makes it a bit worrisome. It's why I usually teach things like nulls and BS before that. Those things are just a lot more fun to me.

Great guide btw. I'm appreciative of people that like to share technical things about games because I like to also. At the same time I feel like it's a bit detrimental to hero vs villain servers when people spam CB. This is coming from a guy who was around online on ps2 where that was very frequent.
