How to Play Custom Maps. *UPDATED* *HOW TO PLAY ALL OF THE MAPS AT ONCE*

A simple how-to-do on adding custom maps into Cruelty Squad. I might update it eventually to teaches you how to make levels and import into Cruelty Squad. As of right now I do not have to much experience with modding.

This will allowed you to play and add custom levels into Cruelty Squad. It's still in WIP and everything isn't as functionally as it should. For custom levels the stormy weather for some reason breaks the skybox and lighting when it thunders.

Adding the CruS Mod Base will altered your game. NOT messing your save files, progress, and records and unlocks. The intro will not play, that's normal. It might make your game faster or slower, not 100% sure. But for me it did both, on certain maps like Paradise. Also there's a bug that will not play the ambient sounds on certain maps also. That's a rare bug though.

The discord user named Frenchie #0761 has created website for CruS custom content. This has to be one of the most coolest websites I've seen for custom content. Cruelty Squad in VR

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE MODBASE / MODLOADER! CLEAN YOUR GAME AND UNINSTALL THE MODBASE / MODLOADER!!!

A new VR mod got released as of 3/3/23, while in BETA release, it is very stable mod. This mod was created by teddybear082 #5496. First attempted to make CruS run in VR by MrGlockenspiel #6625. This also add a bunch of mods that also fixes a bunch of bugs and errors that are present in the game.

Only use this mod on an official purchased version of the game.

## PRELIMINARY STEPS:
- If you are running Cruelty Squad for the first time, run the game once first just to make sure all directories are created and then exit out.

- If you have installed Cruelty Squad before and you have used any mods / modloaders before, you must return to a "clean" state of the game, otherwise this is very likely not to work.

- Make sure the game is installed in the same directory as your Windows Powershell. For me, installing in my normal default Steam directory in Program Files worked fine. Some have had success on other drives, but if it fails, this may be the issue.

Installer:
1. ~~Download the v0.1-VR-beta release in this repo. Link here: Download v.1.0-beta CruSVR Mod[github.com]

This build currently uses a modification of crustyrashky and disco0's newer install script method that was developed for the flatscreen game. Unzip the release and copy the folder this README is in to your game folder, it should look something like this:

2. Run install_modloader.bat

3. Check to see if your game directory now has an override.cfg, libgodot_openxr.dll and openxr_loader.dll next to the crueltysquad.exe and crueltysquad.pck (If so, that is a good sign, as this installer copies those files there).

4. Start the game (it may crash the first time due to lack of the godot-xr-tools asset); if you now have a mods folder under %appdata%\Godot\app_userdata\Cruelty Squad\ it worked (as an example, I find this folder in my personal install by navigating to Windows(C:)\Users[my windows user profile name]\AppData\Roaming\Godot\app_userdata\Cruelty Squad\mods).

5. Now go to that mods folder and copy the "cs-vr-mod-vr-files" folder, "cs-vr-mod-xr-tools" folder, and "cs-scripts-vr-mod" folder from this folder to the 'mods' folder.

6. Run the crueltysquad.exe again with your VR headset on and active / running and the main scene should populate into your VR headset if all has gone well. If it crashes the first time to desktop, run it again, sometimes it takes THREE times running the .exe for everything to take effect. More than that, and there's a problem.

Copying Current Save File

Not really required but it's good to do. To prevent corruption while messing with Cruelty Squad. I'll recommend this for safe keeping.

1. On your search bar type %AppData%, then press enter. That will result you to the Roaming folder.

2. Open the Godot Folder. Open the app_userdata and open the Cruelty Squad folder.


3. Copy and paste the savegame.save somewhere safe. You cam make thousands of these files if you wanted too.

Installing the MOD LOADER

The mod loader is the first program you want to install first! I'll assume you already downloaded both programs. Grab some orange juice and your crack pipes, and here we go!!!!!

*UPDATED* The newer base install differently.

1. Install the base. Find your local files on Cruelty Squad. Extract the loader's folder.

2. Run the batch file in the folder.


3. Wait until the CMD is done. (May result in different result. If had problems pls go to the discord.)


4. Run the game, Exit the game, and then a mods folder will appear in your user_appdata Cruelty Squad folder. (Yes, I completely forgot about this step for over 2 years and now finally realized that I didn't added in.)

Installing the MOD BASE

1. Install the zip file and extract the CruS Mod Base folder into mods folder.
C:\Users\__PC-USER__\AppData\Roaming\Godot\app_userdata\Cruelty Squad\mods
Ignore the Ringy's Mapping Enhancements.


2. Open Cruelty Squad and go to settings. Click on show loaded mods for it to be completely installed including a new level folder.


It also comes with cheats. Go to the GitHub page for more info.
Also please read the README.md (Use Notepad++ or any word text doc program.)

Adding the levels

I assume you downloaded a custom map and want to actually play it.

1. Open the zip folder and drag the level's folder into levels folder.


2. Open Cruelty Squad and there will be a More Level button (downward arrow). Unless you only install one level it'll be at the very bottom.




See more levels means more Cruelty Squad, more Cruelty Squad equals infinite fun. I wish more publishers and developers would allow moddding in their games. It make them more playable. Don't you think?

Installing Mods (Common troubleshooting for mapbase-v0.0.3)

I finally realized what the issue for some maps not loading in. Especially, some with the mapbase-v0.0.3. That because people are installing the mods improperly. It took me about a year and a half to finally realize.

I don't know why disk0__ didn't create a folder for the mod. This probably confused a lot of people. I thought people would of understand how to install mods correctly. GUESS NOT! But do not fret. I am here to show you.

Last thing... ALWAYS READ THE READMES! Anyways, here's how to install mods.

1. Install the mod.


2. Open the Zip Folder and drag out the folder. Into the mods folder.


That's it. But with the mapbase-0.0.3v, there is no folder.

Create an empty folder (not .zip or .rar). Open the zip and drag both the mod folder and text doc into your empty folder.



If that doesn't work, remove some of the custom maps. Becuase some are bigger and the modbase does not like bigger with extra maps laying around.

How to play all of the maps at once. (Unlimited Maps Mod)

Wget has created a mod to fixed the way on how the modloader loads levels into CruS. Without the mod, you can only add a certain amount of levels before CruS just doesn't run. This is mod you can download all of the custom level and put them into your folder without having issues.

Warning for Map Makers, Your _debug map will have an error. Please take this Mod out of the folder. If you are having issues.

Common Bugs/Glitches

_Cruelty Squad_
- (NEW) Levels might not appear because there's too much levels in the level's folder.

- Night and Storm environments will break the fog, lighting and glows to custom levels It. How to fix it is by restarting the game.

- And sometime the fog, lighting, and glow randomly disappears. (Again, restart the game.)

- Deactivating HE will still keep the HE fog and skybox. (Again, restart the game.)

Uninstall Everything

1. Go on your Steam library, right click Cruelty Squad and go to properties.


2. Go to local files and click on Verify integrity of game files.


3. Wait until it's done and boom uninstalled.

Custom Levels

If you make your own custom level and you want me to post them here. Then DM me on discord or on my steam profile. If you need play testers then comment in the Modification Discord and or if you got friends that plays and also have the base installed. I'll also post your a screenshot of the map and the thumbnail. But don't spam or be a ♥♥♥♥ about it.

Conclusion

If you're having trouble installing any of these files, please read the readme files or re-read the files and or go to the Cruelty Squad discord modification channel. I'm confident that I wrote everything step correctly. If I goof up on a step, please let me know.

I am not sure what futures Cruelty Squad have in terms of a Workshop or even a level editor, because this game is pretty mod-able and works somewhat decently. There are bugs that might ruins some environmental atmospheres on some levels and other small things as well. Ville might be doing some other update or something beside Cruelty Squad, but who knows.

And please play these maps/levels. The creators worked very hard to make levels and get everything working for your entertainment and have 500+ hours of fun.

P.S. I'm not sure how "actual mods" work. I mostly experimented with level designing and adding custom levels, than making a mods. I hope one day i'll be able to make mods.
