Radman's definitive Guide to Making the official Gamecube Adapter work on PC
By Radman
This Guide applies to both Rivals of Aether and Slap city, and will cover how to get the officially licensed GCN adapter for Wii U / Switch working on your PC, and thus, these two games.

Introduction:
For the purpose of this guide, the word "native" and its derivatives will mean "using the controller without the need for programs that map buttons (i.e. Joy2Key)".

The official GameCube adapter was initially released alongside Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U, and later gained a limited re-release alongside Ultimate. Since then, the user known as Massive has found a way to extend the adapter's use to PC. Seeing as there aren't many concrete guides to the subject, I decided to make a guide myself.
Setup:
First, Insert the Black USB port into your computer. this cord is the one that controls the inputs of the controller itself, while the grey USB is for rumble only (and thus is optional).

(preferrably well positioned image of the proper insetion goes here)

Now the the hardware itself is set up, it is time to setup the software. Download the installer for Massive's Gamecube adapter driver [m4sv.com]. The website is already filled with documentation on how to set it up properly so I strongly suggest to follow the directions here.

(make sure to come back to this guide, as the program requires a restart to finish it's installation.)

Once the program is setup, open it the way you'd open any other program. The icon is in the shape of the Gamecube controller also released for Smash 4.

once you do, youre greeted with the main screen:

press start on the main screen and watch as your GameCube controller port gets activated. congratulations, your adapter now works on PC natively! The next section will cover examples in games that your adapter is working correctly.
Images for reference:
As stated before, A game will show that the GCN adapter works if it's input natively detects it. The game then changes it's on menu inputs to match that of the GCN controller over Xbox/Playstation. this section is dedictaed to images that show this in action.

Rivals of Aether:

Slap City:

Q&A:
What Games are supported?

as of this writing, currently two games support the gcn controller natively: Rivals of Aether and Slap City. Though sitll in development, Nickeloden Allstars Brawl is also confirmed to have support for GCN controllers.

But what about the Dolphin Emulator?

I'm glad you asked! unlike the other programs, Dolphin Does not require Massive's program to be running to work, but it does require the driver from Zadig (which should be installed if you followed the directions anyways). this means that with no further effort, you can play Gamecube games as (almost) Nintendo intended. More info provided via this link.[dolphin-emu.org]

Am I still able to use the adapter on my Wii U / Switch?

Yes, you are still able to use the adapter on your console of choice.

Am i able to follow these steps with a Mayflash adapter?

As stated on Massive's website, although these steps should work if the adapter is switched to Wii U mode, it's generally more recommended to switch it to PC mode instead.
Conclusion:
In short, this article was made seeing as although many have asked for support, it's been done in short threads that did not provided as much information as I had hoped. I too was interested in playing these games with a recently obtained a GCN controller (particularly a wavebird, lucky find) and thus chose to write this guide to let more people know. Do note that as a fledgling Guide, Further questions will be ignored. I hope you understand, and thank you.
