How to use ZDoom With HeXen: Beyond Heretic

Introduction | What is ZDoom?

ZDoom is a family of enhanced ports of the Doom engine for running on modern operating systems. It runs on Windows, Linux, and OS X, and adds new features not found in the games as originally published by id Software.

How to Download ZDoom

Downloading ZDoom is simple. You can download here. [zdoom.org] ZDoom should be located on the far right, and then just select to install on windows.

How to Install ZDoom Client in Steam Files

Once the files are downloaded, navigate to your HeXen file directory. To access the directory, you can right click on the game, and go to properties. Once in properties, go to local files and click browse. Alternatively, you can go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hexen










Ok, now we must copy all of the files from the ZDoom.zip into the 'Base' folder. Once that is done, there should be a file called dosbox. Rename that file to 'dosboxbackup'. Now, rename the zDoom.exe to 'dosbox'.

Now, when you launch the game through steam it should be launching through ZDoom!
