I'm not sure if it has a greater chance, but I think the higher cost of the Mighty Balls is due to them attracting more kinds of fish (small, large, rare, and both item fish) as opposed to the Worm (just small, large, and rare).

does the mightyball bait have a greater chance of attracting rare fish? I just need to catch 3 more rare ones, ive had good results with just the worm but wonder if my odds would be better forking over the few extra hundred units.
