Cooking Dungeon Guide: For the Aspiring Chef
By Adorkable
This is a small guide for completing the cooking dungeon to get recipe lists for the cooking skill books. It assumes you have basic understanding of gameplay at the very least. Suitable for players ranging from total level 100 to 1000. Lower level than 100 will have difficulty, and high than 1000 will have difficulty, but there may still be useful points in this guide, so check it out. ^^

Introduction
Hello Milletians and welcome to my guide!

I am going to walk you through my simple and efficient way of completing the Cooking Dungeon found in the kitchen of Tara Rath Castle. Maybe you need to rank cooking, or do the dungeon for part of a Generation quest. Maybe you want experience and gold, or maybe you're just curious. Whatever the reason, this guide will (hopefully) help make things a little easier for you.

What exactly is the Cooking Dungeon?

The Cooking Dungeon is a mission where you have to kill a certain amount of ingredients within a certain time period to "cook" a dish to show to Glewyas for exp, gold, and if you score high enough, recipe lists which can be used to buy neat things and skill books in his shop. To enter the Cooking Dungeon, you need a recipe from Glewyas's shop (and a high enough rank of Cooking to do it).

The recipes increase in difficulty and required Cooking rank starting from left to right. There is only ONE of each recipe for sale per channel per ingame day. If someone already bought the recipe you wanted, you have to change channels, or wait til 12 AM.

Inside the Dungeon

Once you enter the dungeon by "talking" to the Cooking Pot and selecting the recipe you want to do, you will be transported inside the pot. Inside you will see Glewyas, a giant fork, and an orb. Some things to note: Hitting the orb spawns the food. There is a countdown timer in the top right corner of the screen. Even if you never hit the orb, the timer will still go down and you will fail the mission if it reaches 0. Another thing... do not hit the fork until the correct amount of time has passed. Hitting the fork ends the mission, and doing so prematurely will greatly lower your score. Glewyas is there to "help" you, though it is mostly unwanted help (will explain in a later section).

Once you hit the orb and the food spawns, the inner circle will turn red. Food needs to be "tenderized" via Glewyas's ladle, or the cooking knife dropped from a silverware spawn. Giant ladles and cooking knives brought from outside the dungeon do not work. Kill the food with your regular weapons after it's been tenderized and make sure it lands in the red part of the pot for it to count. Click on Info in the top right corner to see how many you need of each ingredient. When the correct amount of time elapses, hit the fork, and a chest will appear with your completed dish. Sounds easy, right?

Okay, I'm ready to give this a try!

Great! Make sure you read the next section before going in.
What You Need
What I described in the Introduction was how I used to do the Cooking Dungeon. After a while, I realized I was going about it very inefficiently and devised a way to make it even easier.

You will need:
  • Character Total (cumulative) Level between 100-1000*
  • Cooking Rank F (or higher)
  • One weapons slot empty
  • One weapons slot with usual weapon (preferably little to no splash damage)
  • Ice Mines rank B or higher**
  • Bolt Magic (such as Ice Bolt)
  • One or more Pegasus (obtained by completing The Saga (G18))***
  • Play Dead skill
  • Cloud pet or plenty of HP pots

* You can still do this if you are over level 1000, but the dungeon's difficulty is based on your total level, therefore, the methods I explain will not be as efficient or effective.

** Explained in section: The First Step

*** Explained in section: Pegasi and How They Help
The First Step
The very first thing you need to do, once you enter the dungeon, is kill Glewyas. He is supposed to help you, but in many many ways, he just makes things worse. But let me put some pros and cons to keeping Glewyas alive, in case you don't feel particularly murderous.

Pros:
Takes some aggro off you from the food
Tenderizes the food for you
Cons:
Usually focuses on killing food outside the red circle
Kills more food than necessary increasing chance of Rat
Takes Rat aggro
Pushes food away from Pegasus
Sometimes kills too much food in red circle
He's just annoying to deal with

So, how do I take him out?
Killing Glewyas is as simple as can be if you have ice mines. Ice mines are created via Synthesis (alchemy) and can be traded. However you manage to get ahold of them, make sure you have enough to kill Glewyas as fast as possible (with extras in case you miss or he walks away). You need to simply hit the ice mine from a distance with a bolt magic while he is in range. Unless you are unlucky and he goes into deadly, that should be enough to kill him. Time is important, especially for the lower ranked recipes that only give you 5 minutes or so to complete your dish, so it may be better to keep him alive if you are having a hard time.

After his body despawns, he drops his ladle and pot which can be picked up and equipped automatically to your empty weapons slot. The ladle tenderizes the food exactly like Glewyas does, only now you have complete control. You are now ready to begin your battle with food!

The Food That Attacks
After hitting the orb and the floor turns red, the ingredients needed to make the dish will spawn. They have very high protection, meaning any basic attack will only do 1s to them. This is what the ladle is for. Attacking food with the ladle lowers the protection of the food. The splash damage range is about 360 degrees all around you, and goes pretty far out. One three hit combo should be enough to tenderize the food so you can switch to your main weapon for more control and maneuverability.

After a few kills, a Silverware will appear. This will attack food for you (or if you hit him, he will attack you instead). Killing the Silverware is advised, as he does some of the same things as Glewyas does, but he does NOT tenderize food and has no splash. Killing him in the red circle will display him in the ingredients added list, but has no effect on points. He will drop a cooking knife, which can be ignored if you already have the ladle.

Some Tips:

Don't focus on one type of food at a time. If you try to get all of the meat first, for example, you might accidentally kill too much while adding vegetables or salt (due to mega splash of ladle). So try to add things proportionately to what is required.

Use the ladle if you are being attacked by many things. The food has a very odd aggro, but they enjoy attacking in small bursts and ganging up on you. And firebolting you. Lots of firebolt. The ladle can smack them all and knock them back, giving you breathing room. (AoE stun/freeze/sleep pets help too in this situation, assuming you have them.)
Pegasi and How They Help

The Pegasus is the best pet possible for this dungeon. His Summon AoE IGNORES the protection of the food, and does high enough damage to kill the ingredients in just one summon.(*) When I discovered this, it was nearly game changing. I was scraping by with 60s and 70s, but with the Pegasus's help, I can easily get 98+.

When to Use the Pegasus
Whenever you can in the very beginning of the mission. The more you have, the better. In my case, I had two to use, alternating between them to get large amounts of food killed in the circle in minimal amounts of time.

When NOT to Use the Pegasus
After you are close to finishing at least one of the ingredients, you'll want to stop summoning to avoid over killing. And never ever ever summon a Pegasus when there is a Rat in the pot!

(*) In harder dungeons (meaning higher total level character) the food has more HP and will take more than one Pegasus summon to kill all the food.
Eeeek! A Rat!
Rats are the most foul thing you can encounter in the cooking dungeon. If they are left or accidentally killed in the red circle, they will greatly lower your score. So how do you rid of the chef's worst enemy?

Switch to your main weapon (not the ladle) and walk to the edge of the pot. The rat will not attack you unless you attack it first, and his AI makes him circle you until he hits the wall of the pot. Once this happens, you can take him out easily without him landing in the red.

I accidentally killed one in the pot! D:

Don't worry, one rat isn't really game ending. It's still possible to get a score high enough to get you some recipe lists. Kill two in the pot though, and you may just want to consider leaving to save yourself wasted time and effort.
Completing Your Dish
All that's left to do now is finish killing all the ingredients and when the time is right, hit the fork. If there is a lot of time left before the food is ready, play dead near the fork to avoid aggro, and get up when its just about time. After hitting the fork, a chest will appear with your completed food inside it. Pick up the food and exit the dungeon. Show the food to Glewyas for your reward. That's pretty much all there is to it.

My Character:
  • Total level 183
  • Weapon of choice: Two Lightsabers
  • Pets used: 2 Pegasi and 1 Cloud
  • Average Cooking Dungeon score: 97

Keep in mind, this character is an alt, so I do have a lot of experience in Mabi and generally know what I'm doing, so your results may differ, especially if you are new to the game. However, I truly believe that if I can do it, so can you! (Especially since I have satellite internet and my ping rests around 700....)

I hope this guide helped you, if even just a little, as that was it's intended purpose. Now get to cookin'!
