Catching the Rabbit (movement)

hold jump + slash + shoot together to speed up the countdown

press back to spawn earlier than normal; you are forced to spawn eventually, though

the first slash while mid-air propels you in that direction; also, continue holding jump to achieve maximum height

jumping up into a gap (from a misaligned launch point) is the most advanced movement technique in the game

pressing slash, then jump at nearly the same time lets you use some of the slash momentum while still allowing for a mid-air slash, which when used together grant a higher speed overall

the tumble mechanic can be used to your advantage; you can "steer" yourself with directional input while tumbling, to a certain degree

dashing will fast-recover you out of a tumble (such as from a sword-clash)

slide down walls by moving into them while in mid-air

you can also slide down sticky Goo tiles by "jumping" into the wall and continuing to hold the button

wall jump by jumping during a slide

sword-fling-wall-jumping is where you time a sword slash to just after a wall jump, granting incredible speed; and they can be chained together, as long as you do not accidentally "clang" with a hard tile (delays slash)

duck bullets by holding down; this also "hides" you from the camera tracking temporarily, if the level has a moving camera

hop across a gap (single tile) by running across it

Hayao can run across larger gaps at full sprint

fall into a gap by pressing down while running; you will "catch" the lip of the gap

safely pass into spikes by moving slower in the "dangerous" direction (spikes are facing) than in the "safe" direction (perpendicular to spike facing direction)

safely dash into spikes from any direction

safely dash through Otomo's flame, and through splash damage from explosions (Pops' shot, Ana's bomb)

Helmsley must press straight down to fall into gaps; while sliding, he will normally glide across gaps

Helmsley can slide upside-down on goo tiles

Ghost is always visible when lit

the harder you hit the ground, the more it will shake stuff up

if you hit the ground hard enough, you can knock back other players

gold is shiny

crab is worth 1 point (Minit)

Hayao wags his tail when on a kill streak (3 or more), and pants when an opponent is winning with 6 or more kills

Pops can sumo if you alternate up/down

Ghost cannot turn held objects invisible

Helmsley can slide in water faster than most characters can run in it

You will drown in water after being submerged long enough

Dubbed the "Rotten-Sheena playdead slide" : while playing dead (holding down), hold left or right and shoot downward, and you can slide around.

Helmsley's "Swag Grind" and "Sad Grind" are accomplished using dashes while holding diagonal down or straight down (Submitted by Just1ceFury)

dashing straight down to avoid an attack is called a "statue dodge"

when timed well, it is possible to jump after coming loose from a goo ceiling (technically: floating, but called coyote-time) so I've called this the coyote goo flip

dash while swiping a terminal to awkwardly roll

isao likes water

Forbidden Sword Techniques

flags can be ripped

decapitate by slashing the neck; doing so succesfully also resets your sword cooldown

attempting to slash too early will make your character blink

press down to pick up objects

slash throws held objects

reflecting bullets with your sword causes them to gain speed

using your slash to parry another slash will cause the slower player to tumble

reflecting super bullets with a slash will tumble you

reflecting super bullets with a super slash will not tumble you

reflecting normal bullets with a super slash will send them back and upgrade them into super bullets

only the first slash gives you a mid-air boost; follow-up slashes do not affect momentum directly, you must touch a solid block to reset, either by wall sliding or landing on the ground

slashing any solid block (wall/floor/ceiling) will lengthen the duration of the slash, but will also add a brief cooldown before the next slash input; the cooldown varies per-character; Golem's is currently the shortest

slash the ground to extend a sword slash; it will also air-brake

a drag is performed while moving in one direction and slashing in another

hold slash to switch stance (high/low); this switches your swing direction, and is itself a killing move; it will also reduce your momentum mid-air

when stance switch is used to reflect, it will slow the bullet into a wobble bullet

slash Otomo's flame to (temporarily) extinguish it; however this delays the timer on the fire, making it last longer overall

press change weapon to switch weapons in versus (CTRL+6 to unlock them temporarily)

a 4-kill-streak gives you a blue trail

winning on a 4-kill streak will shatter your opponent's sword

a 9-kill-streak gives you a red trail

winning on a 9-kill-streak cause your opponent to explode into petals

it is possible to reflect bullets through walls (or in this case, Pops' lethal bomb)

Spelunky traps are triggered by slashing, and by players' heads (whether attached or not); are reloaded when shot; and can be made to reload themselves

crabs can be decapitated

minit's sword reflects bullets; seen here in the technique called the WICBIHTH (wow-I-can't-believe-I-have-the-honor)

Dark Art of the Gunn

Helmsley can accumulate a frightening number of bullets

super bullets can be aimed in 16 directions (not merely four as with regular bullets); the game takes into account both your dash direction (8-way) and shot direction (4-way) to get the final super bullet shot angle.

Slug's regular kunai (bullet) can be aimed in 20 directions (shown here sprite-swapped); the 4 cardinal directions can be tilted with 4 different adjustments; 90 degrees and 45 degrees from shot direction will yield 20 different trajectories

super bullet can be used at any point during a dash; notice how the dash and the super bullet can be different directions

super bullets can be used to cancel out & detonate other super bullets

super bullets can be angled after being shot by using a super-slash, and thus made to detonate

super bullets can be fired backward using the neutral-dash technique; when dashing without movement input, the previous dash's movement direction is used as a substitute, allowing this

using only 3 ammo, it is possible to self-detonate a pair of super bullets using a technique known as the "1CE" (1-clip-explosion), aka the "Just1ce cold opener", aka the "super bullet detonation on a budget" - you must first fire a regular bullet, followed by an immediate dash-slash (super slash) such that the bullet is upgraded into a super bullet, followed by an immediate second bullet which will also be super and traveling faster; done correctly, it should catch up to the first one and detonate. Takes a bit of practice, and is range-limited.

The speed of a super bullet is increased if the shooter is dashing in the same direction when they fire

Ghost can create invisible bullets, including diagonal/super/wobble/super-wobble bullets; however, they are still a light source

the normal bullet speed differs per-character

Any character can pick up Slug's kunai to gain ammo; and, a super-kunai is worth two.

Ana's bomb and Pops' explosive shot can destroy some tiles

Otomo's fire detonates Ana's bomb on contact

Ana's bomb floats in water

Golem's wobble bullet is a super bullet, and speeds up when it "devours" other bullets

Golem's wobble bullet is large enough to hit players even if they are ducking (reported as a bug)

Otomo can place fire in water (possibly a bug)

Called the "Helmsley water tech," It is possible to shoot a bullet from a waterlogged-slide if it is performed frame-perfect
Taboo Tactics

Golem can make a super bullet using only one shot; and each such super can be reflected immediately, creating a normal speed super bullet and still having used only one shot

Ana can "rope launch" by using a sideways whip, then immediately hold up + shoot (throw rope); the rope will be launched sideways; this technique also works downward, and works as a super shot.

The "Daglas Special" (aka.: the Pops' special, the Wario special) launch a super bullet and reflect it immediately with a regular slash; hold jump as you bounce in the opposite direction; now, as you approach your bullet from the opposite side of the screen, slash it down like you're spiking a volleyball. Particularly effective with Pops.

Called the "jail," (or aka Wario GBJ), this technique is where Pops tackles an enemy into a special block; they are then trapped (removed from game)

The Dead Mans' Stance Switch is a technique where you need to swing and instantly hold down to crouch while stance switching; you can aim your reflect (visual: DrBillyBob)

it is possible for Minit to get a second air boost by retrieving a thrown sword, even after sword-jumping

reflected Minit swords take the color of the attacking player, and can kill the Minit who originally threw them

Called the "Minit Windmill of Death" - neutral dash, then neutral shoot, and then walk a bit

Ana can super-slash two rope hooks stacked near each other to cause an explosion (and the slash helps you survive it)

Pops' tackle overrides and interrupts other characters' dash

The moat dash is simply dashing through the middle section of moat; mess it up, and you'll lose all your ammo, but it can surprise someone
Cursed Knowledge

Mountain showdown has a secret ice cave; know, however that leaving the mountaintop angers the kami and results in your opponent being gifted ammunition to hunt you down
