Just a heads up, you do need to leave your room for the story to progress. When you hear the doorbell ring after hiding under your bed, start leaving your room until you see your parent's door open at the top of the stairs, then do a 180 and skedaddle back to your room until the police show up. They won't arrive until you trigger the door to open. You can be out there as long as you want, but:

-You will die if you approach the door or the stairs any further
-The police will not arrive unless you shut the door behind you in your room, and (untested) you must hide back under your bed.

As soon as you hear the sirens, you can exit your bed, but don't approach the front door. You are only safe to leave when you hear the serene music start - at the same time, the intruder will close your parent's door. You don't need to do anything past that point in order to win, and to my knowledge, it is impossible to die after that point.
