Greetings! In this guide, we will set up the graphics in such a way that not a single dark area will remain on the map, and the picture will also be very bright, but pleasing to the eye, which will make it much more pleasant for you to maneuver! And also a small bonus of the performed operations will be an increase in FPS, due to the disabling of shadows and blur!

And so let's go through the questions that you may have!
1. What is needed to change the graphics?
  • Game configs
You can find them along this path:
    C:\Users\YOUR ACCOUNT NAME\AppData\Local\DeadByDaylight\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

  • GeForce Experience program, provided you own an Nvidia graphics card

You can download GeForce Experience on the official website of the video card manufacturer

  • Radeon Software Adrenalin if you own an AMD graphics card

You can download AMD Adrenalin on the official website of the video card manufacturer

2. Why is all this necessary?
As I already wrote at the very beginning, all shadows will be removed on the map, the picture will become bright and saturated ,but will remain very pleasant for the eye, which will make it much easier and more pleasant to maniac from a maniac!
3. Will I be banned for this?
And so let's go through the shelves:
  • Config change
You will not get banned for changing parameters in the GameUserSettings.ini file.

For adding / changing parameters in the Engine.ini file, or rather removing shadows from the game and turning off blurring, you can get banned only on the condition that you upload screenshots or record video with this config, but so far not a single such case no ban was revealed, because there are people and streamers who have been playing with these settings for years and nothing terrible has happened to them.

  • GeForce Experience
For using filters through Nvidia Freestyle (GeForce Experience) you will not get banned as GeForce Experience is on the EAC anti-cheat whitelist.
  • AMD Adrenalin
For using filters through AMD Adrenalin, you will not get banned, since the program is also on the EAC anti-cheat white list.

  • For using replaced icons, you will most likely be banned by EAC, the developers are indifferent to this, because it does not give any advantage, but at the same time in the support of EAC on this issue, we receive such an answer ↓ In general, all 50 to 50, in your place I wouldn't risk it.

Although you will not be banned for most of the points, but still, I must warn you that you change the files at your own peril and risk, because everything may change with some update. In any case, if something becomes forbidden and a 100% ban will be issued for it, I will definitely supplement this section.

If you didn’t find the answer to your question, feel free to ask it in the comments and I will definitely answer it during the day!

Unlock FPS
The first thing I recommend is to unlock the FPS so that the game runs as smoothly as possible.

If you do not want to do this for some reason, skip this item, it is not particularly important for setting the graphics.

So, to unlock FPS, we need a config GameUserSettings.ini

GameUserSettings.ini is located here:
C:\Users\YOUR ACCOUNT NAME\AppData\Local\DeadByDaylight\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

We open it with notepad and replace the lines there:
bUseVSync=False FrameRateLimit=122.000000

122 FPS is currently the most optimal value, if you want to bet more, but do not get carried away too much.
Removing shadows and blurring
The most interesting part of the guide begins, as we move on to changing the graphics.

To remove shadows and blur, we need Engine.ini

Engine.ini is located here:
C:\Users\YOUR ACCOUNT NAME\AppData\Local\DeadByDaylight\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

We open it with a notepad and enter additional lines at the very end:
[/script/engine.garbagecollectionsettings] r.SeparateTranslucency=True r.DefaultFeature.Bloom=False r.DefaultFeature.AmbientOcclusion=False r.DefaultFeature.AmbientOcclusionStaticFraction=False r.DefaultFeature.MotionBlur=False r.DefaultFeature.LensFlare=False r.DefaultFeature.AntiAliasing=0 PerfIndexValues_ResolutionQuality="50 50 50 50" r.MSAA.CompositingSampleCount=1 r.ShadowQuality=0 r.Shadow.CSM.MaxCascades=0 r.Shadow.MaxResolution=32 r.Shadow.RadiusThreshold=0.24 r.Shadow.DistanceScale=0.1 r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0 r.RenderTargetPoolMin=200 r.Upscale.Quality=0 r.MaxAnisotropy=0 r.TranslucencyLightingVolumeDim=1 r.RefractionQuality=0 r.SceneColorFormat=3 r.ParticleLightQuality=0

After that, we must put the "Read-only" attribute on the file, otherwise, when you first enter the game, all these settings will fly off.
(RMB on the file -> Properties -> Attribute "Read Only").

Next, we go into the game itself and set the graphics settings to - "Low", otherwise these lines will not be as effective as possible.
Add brightness and saturation (Nvidia)
Moving on to the most important step - setting up Nvidia Freestyle
  • 1. Go to GeForce Experience, if necessary, create an Nvidia account

  • 2. Log in to your account, on the top panel, click on the gear icon.

  • 3. Here we enable experimental features and game overlay

  • 4. We go into the game, press ALT + F3, set filters, as in the screenshots.

1. First preset (Less bright)

2. Second preset (Brighter)

Add brightness and saturation (AMD)
Let's move on to the most important stage - setting up filters via AMD Adrenalin
  • 1. Go to AMD Adrenalin and launch Dead by Daylight.
  • 2. In the game, press the keyboard shortcut ALT + R
  • 3. Go to the "Gaming" tab and select DBD there.
  • 4. Turn on the "Custom Color" option.
  • 5. Next, we adjust the brightness, hue, contrast, saturation as you like, unfortunately I cannot leave any ready-made presets, since I do not have a video card from AMD.
Replacing standard icons
In this section, I will tell you how to replace standard icons with any others that you can find on the Internet.

Installation:
1. Download the archive with icons
2. Transfer all folders from the archive along this path:
\Steam\steamapps\common\Dead by Daylight\DeadByDaylight\Content\UI\ Icons
3. Agree to the replacement

Removal:
1. Go to the Steam library -> Right click on DBD -> Properties -> Local files -> Check the integrity of files.

This was the first guide that actually worked for me. However, my gfx card is whirrrring after these changes and same with my friends. I wonder what parameter is doing this. I think i shouldn't have put it in native resolution.

Squared, In general, I completely agree with you, but this has already become the exception rather than the rule. Dead By Daylight is not as dark as it used to be, now it has been made much brighter by the standard and hiding in the shadows is not so effective, at least in my opinion.

"not give you any advantage" removing the shadows and increasing the brightness does give you an advantage. On one side, you'll see survivors hiding way easier and on the other side, you'll see killers and the traps way easily. Darkness and shadows are parts of the game. The ambience is there for a reason, it's suppose to be a "horror" game not minecraft.

is this the same with modding? it seems that people are stop using mods in fear of getting banned. so people also stopped using custom icons too

TrueSparktron, I'm not forcing anyone, I shared the method, and then people themselves choose whether to increase the brightness or not. Each person perceives the game in his own way and everyone makes settings for himself, those that are convenient for him. For example, it is much more convenient for me to play the light Dead By Daylight, I have already passed the stage when I needed the atmosphere of the game.
