Enabling the Console through Steam
No need for a fancy introduction, this is a pretty easy process.

So, first open up your Steam library, and make sure you have Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines installed. Next, right click on it in your library, so you get the list of options shown below, then click on "Properties"

Now you should have a window like the one shown in the next picture below. The next step is to click on the button that says "Set Launch Options..."

The new small window should show an empty textbox, but we want the console enabled, so type in exactly what is shown in the picture below, and then press "Ok".
Using the Console
Now that you have the console enabled in the game, just press the ~ key on your keyboard (it should be the key to the left of 1 on a US keyboard, I'm not sure what it would be for other keyboard standards.)
By pressing this key while in-game, you should now have this window open shown below:

Now you can enter a variety of commands that you would not be able to otherwise, and change things in the game to your preference. However, what we're going to focus on right now is the noclip command, which is very useful in getting through places that would usually have you stuck. So just type in the word "noclip" in the text box provided by the console window as shown below:

If you have done it correctly, a notification will appear in the console window saying "noclip ON" which means that you are now in noclip mode.

Exit the console window by pressing the ~ key again, pressing Esc, or by clicking on the "x" provided in the top right corner of the console window. Now you should be able to move freely in any direction available in 3 dimensional space, and be able to move through doors and walls, provided that those doors aren't supposed to change the map to a new area (have a loading screen between them). To exit noclip mode and go back to walking normally, simply repeat the steps, open the console (~) enter the word noclip, and the console should say noclip off, as shown below:

That is all for this guide for now, I may update this later with more useful commands for avoiding game breaking bugs. I also might create another section on how to enable noclip if you don't have the ~ key on a different type of keyboard, but for now I'm really busy and must end it here.
Useful Commands
*Section currently under construction, saved progress temporarily.*
Here is a section on some useful commands that may help you get around some flaws still present in the game, or just enhance your experience a bit.
Since some commands require 1 or more parameters, for ease of use purposes, the formatting for the commands below will be described first. For the explanation on how to enter these commands with several parameters, see the first list below.
For a list of items, character stats, disciplines, or other possible examples of parameters to use with the commands, see the below section.

How to enter certain commands
  • For a command with no parameters, enter the command, such as noclip, nothing else required.
  • A command with 1 parameter, just enter a space between the command and the parameter you're using. such as blood 15. This will give you 15 blood points as explained below.
  • A command with more than 1 parameter just requires a space between parameters, such as vstats get security 2. In this example, get, security, and 2 are parameters of the vstats command.
  • If, for any reason, a single parameter requires a space in between 2 words, you must specify this using quotes, otherwise the console will assume the space implies separate parameters.
I don't have a good example of when this would be useful yet, however an example would be if you wanted to say a message, you can use the command: say "hello, world!"
This would display your character's name along with the message hello, world! beside it.
The logic behind this is that the command is say, and the parameter is hello, world!. The message must be included in quotes to specify it as one parameter instead of two.

Format of commands & parameters
  • Commands will just be written as they are meant to be typed in, nothing special.
  • Necessary parameters to a command will be surrounded by <> after the command name.
  • Optional parameters to a command will be surrounded by [] after the command name.
  • Parameters meant to be integers (numbers without decimals) will be signified with #.
  • Some commands use items as parameters, I'll just type items for that case.
  • Character stats are sometimes used as parameters, for these I will type stat.
  • Lastly, some commands will only accept certain things (like only 0, 1, or 2) I will explicitly state the possible parameters for these cases in the format <0/1/2> or [0/1/2] if they're optional.

Command List
  • noclip - More simply described as "ghost mode", this will allow the player to move freely through walls and any other objects, ignoring gravity and any other laws of physics.
To turn this on, type it in once, to turn it off, type it in again.
  • god - As the name implies, this will make the player impervious to any damage.
As with noclip, to turn this on, type it in, and to turn it off again, type it in a second time.
  • blood <#> - This command will give you the exact amount of blood points specified. The minimum amount is 0, I believe, and the maximum amount that the blood bar holds is 15. However, you can enter greater numbers than 15 for extra blood.
  • notarget - Makes any NPC ignore the player. NPCs will not ignore each other, but will not notice the player. Note that dialogue can still be initiated.
  • giftxp <#> - This will set the player's experience points (XP) to the exact amount specified. Note that despite the name, it doesn't give XP, it will set the XP to the number.
  • vstats <buy/sell/get> <stat> <#> - This one is a little complicated, update soon.

You didn't include the best command in the entire game.

Same issue here. Only thing that fixes it is getting rid of the -console and, well, I can boot up the game but can't access the console.

I seem to have the same problem. As soon as it boots up it just crashes.

When I try to set up -console in the launch options the game refuses to start. Any thoughts on what might help?

Thank you

@Danda Try pressing the ~ key again to exit the console. Pressing the X on the console window doesn't exit the console window properly. If you close it with the X, you can press the Esc key, and it should bring you back to the game. Normally, I'd suggest only using the ~ to open and close the console window though.

when i open the console i get stuck all the game. The only thing I can do is use the console, open and close it, but nothing else works and I am forced to exit the game. I have always had this problem since the game came out. I tried with different PCs, operating systems, graphics cards, etc ... Nothing changes. Has anyone else had the same problem and managed to solve it?

Oh my stars, you're a lifesaver, really! I currently have to go through the stupid Warrens to get to Gary Golden and I heard its a pain in the butt.

Honestly I wasn't looking forward to doing it but with this no clip thing might help get where I need to go.

I'm not sure if I can actually skip the entire dumb maze or not though!

That's a good question. Maybe there's a way to do it, I'll look into it. If I don't reply, try posting in this thread, there's more people to help here too. http://steamcommunity.com/app/2600/discussions/0/540739861413343294/?tscn=1440588673

My 4 key is broken and does not work and I'm stuck at a point in a quest where dialog option 4 is what I need to press in order to move on. Is there a console command that allows me to choose dialog option 4? I've tried all the commands I can think of and nothing worked. It won't let me use the numb pad or change the keybindings since there are no dialog keys in that section.

I done exactly what is shown in the pictures but, when i load the game, it loads then quits itself then i have a pop up message saying: vampire.exe has stopped working, windows is checking for a solution but it fails then sez: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly, windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
