It's a pretty grindy game. Crypts are easy to navigate and have resources not much in terms of difficulty once you get your gear up. Same with bosses, difficult until you know what to do then they are fairly easy. If you are looking for a game to "finish" and be done with it I would wait for them to finish the game.
For me the attraction is exploring a new map seed and finding good locations logistically to avoid hauling ores and materials all over. To advance you need to do a lot of mining and farming for gear and food. Stamina is everything in this game and food, being rested, dry and warm will buff your health and stamina. So if you are not into a lot of that stuff you probably wouldn't be crazy about the game.
Don't get me wrong the bosses and environments are cool and all but not some super difficult challenge if that is what you are looking for.

have been on the fence about buying it, so i've just been avoiding any videos about it. how are the dungeons and boss fights? that's the big reason i was checking it out. i know the building is really solid, at least

I should. Had issues with making reviews though. I'd make a long thoughtful review and the system would choke on it for no reason.. within limits etc. The work around, I was told, was to just make a one word review then update it. Sadly the last thing I want to do is put out a one word review, have people see that in my activity feed and end up ignoring me due to making bad reviews. If you want my opinion it is a pretty great game for a twenty dollar early access game. The mechanics are solid, environments are very atmospheric and offers a lot of different options depending on playstyle. While it isn't an overly difficult game you do learn a lot by death. But I never died without knowing why and could think of a way to avoid it in the future. Completed a few no death runs at this point, so it isn't so hard once you know what you are doing. I have died a lot though to get there ha ha.
