How to change npc's names!
Von Death2519
This guide will show you how you can delete and change npc names.

NOTE: When changing all of the english files only have the name and also the file like lewis.xnb, also if you want to change the everything you have to go into the festivals and dialogue files. Just remember there's around 360 files in the dialogue folder, thats because all of the different languages that they have so only change the ones that are in your language. I only had to edit 8 for dialogue so it makes a huge difference!

What you will need,
You will need a XNB file opener, you can get one from here[drive.google.com] and download the one that says XNB mod toolkit. After that you'll need to extract the file once you download it if its not a folder, i recommend WinRAR but you can use whatever you want.

How to edit
1. Once you have your file XNB packer and unpacker test it out and see how it works, when i downloaded it there was a test file in there to test out how it works. Notice it may take about 15 sec. the first time. I recommend pinning the folder so you have a clean workspace to work with.

2. Now that you have found out how it works delete the test file, you will not need it. Next you need to go to the stardew valley file from steam. You can go to the steam page for the game and press settings, manage, browse local files.

3. When you have your files for the game open type in NPCDispositions.XNB in that exact wording. scroll and find what exactly says that and copy the file. Then drop it in the packed folder in the editor and unpack it.

4. Now this is probably the easiest part. Go to the unpacked folder and there will be one file there. Open it with Microsoft notes or what the equivalent is on your computer is. Press ctrl-f and type in the name you want to change. Now press find and change the name multiple times until there is none left.

5. So you have your edited file you probably still have your old file copied, if you don't copy it and put the file in a save place where you wont loose it. Now delete the old file out of the packed folder and press pack and look back in the folder, copy that file and replace the file with the one in the stardew valley game folder.

6. If you did it correctly then you will have the person named in atleast the friendship tab and when you talk to them, i have not tested everything out yet but it will not hurt your game file. If you didn't do it correctly retry somethings like the packing and unpacking.
Dialogue
1: Go into the files and find the dialogue files. After that you will see all of the names of the townspeople.

2: copy and paste all of the ones that are in your language so most likely Sam would be just sam.xnb and so on. Paste them into the thing so you can edit them

3: find and replace all of the names and then copy and paste them back into the Stardew files!

i found it, in Content/Data file there is Characters.xnb if u can convert that xnb file to json and after that to txt file u can change the codes. so there must be name of the villager you want to change, if u delete that "[LocalizedText Strings\\NPCNames:Abigail]" and write here the name you want like "ozaio".Finally u can convert the file you changed back to json and xnb file. put this file in Data back and its done it must be finished.Sorry for my shitty english but i hope it works!

@Trojan073, exactly, or modifying a mod like Villager name replacer.

Couldn't you use Content Patcher as opposed to xnb. All you would need to do is an EditData action in Content Patcher.
