Introduction
Hi, I'm Resent, I play Ghost Recon Online rather frequently and I'm writing this guide to simply assist the development of player skill by starting with the most basic parts of the game.

Now, I am by no means the best player on this game, and I'm not going to nit pick about every single setting, but there are a few distinct things that I'd like to point out in the controls that could assist you in learning the game, and perhaps increase your learning progression, or perhaps even help a seasoned player improve as well.
Cover and Sprinting
When I first started playing this game, it seemed to be extremely clunky to me, particularly when I was trying to be a sneaky recon with the cloaking device, and I kept sprinting towards enemy even when I wanted to stop, or I kept getting stuck in cover when someone came up to rush me from another side.

The game automatically defaults the controls to TOGGLING sprinting and staying in cover.

You can change both to a HOLD, so instead of having to press the button twice to get in or out of cover, the entire operation is either holding it down to stay in cover, or releasing the button to come out of cover. I recommend doing so, because it's simply faster.
Melee
The button to use your melee attack is by default on your Mouse Wheel Click. I don't like this for a few reasons.

- It requires you to remove one of your fingers from the left click button or the right click button of your mouse. You want to keep your fingers on those buttons to keep your weapon ready for anything that could happen. Having to make unnecessary movements to switch between awkward button presses is extra time that could be avoided.

Unless you use 3 fingers on the top of your mouse.. (which is kind of awkward by itself, but if you're used to that, suit yourself)

- The mouse wheel click is slightly difficult to actually click on most mice, I just don't like it altogether.

I personally changed my key to ALT. I find it easy to press even while moving. Just be careful not to try to look at the scoreboard while doing this. (You know, alt+tab? Generally doesn't end well) Now by default, this will override the button for voice communication, so I changed that to V.

V for Voice, pretty simple.
Final details
These settings I discussed previously are just my personal opinions and preferences. You can definitely be good at the game without those specifically.

It's kind of like comparing smart casting to non smart casting in League Of Legends. One is obviously faster than the other, but YOU'RE NOT REQUIRED to use smart casting to become a good player.

I hope this guide helped at least somebody. Happy Gaming!
