How to Play with Friends [Beta]

How to enable multiplayer and play critically-acclaimed Garfield Kart with your friends on Steam through Online Multiplayer.

Enabling Multiplayer, Configurations

From the Steam client itself, find Garfield Kart in your library. Right click on the title of the game, and select Properties. On the left, choose "Betas," and opt into multi_test - Test multiplayer P2P. You do not need to enter a beta access code or anything else. Close the properties menu.

Run Garfield Kart from your Steam library now. When prompted, select the option on the bottom to run the game. Multiplayer beta is now is enabled.

Click on play game, and set your graphics and screen res configurations. Note that you can edit your controls on the input control tab.

Once you are finished with these settings, click "Play!"

Creating and Joining a Game Lobby

CREATING LOBBY

To create a game lobby, click the blue play icon from the start menu. From the tabs on the left, select "Multi-player," which has the icon of multiple rabbit slippers.

From the multiplayer panel, change your name by clicking on the orange bar the bottom. Player name character limit is 9, and using spaces is allowed. Special characters are not allowed.

After setting your name, click on Online, which has the icon of a blue globe.

Set the name of your game by clicking on the orange bar at the bottom. Game name character limit is 13. You may use spaces, but you cannot use special characters.

From the tabs on the left, select "Create a game," which has the icon of of a dark pink balloon with a white plus. From here, you can choose either Single Race or Grand Prix.

Your room has been made. Tell your friends that you have finished making the game. There is no way to manually invite them yet, so they will have to find your lobby from the list. Up to five other players may join your lobby.

JOINING LOBBY

To join a game lobby, click the blue play icon from the start menu. From the tabs on the left, select "Multi-player," which has the icon of multiple rabbit slippers

After setting your name, click on Online, which has the icon of a blue globe.

The upper "Join a game" tab should be automatically selected, which has the icon of an yellow balloon with an orange arrow next to a dark pink balloon with a white cross.

From here, you should see the game lobby that your friend made. If you do not see it, click on the light blue refresh button at the bottom once. Wait for it to reload.
Read the next step carefully.

Click on the name of the lobby ONCE, and ONCE only. Wait patiently after clicking just ONCE.

If you click multiple times, you will not be able to join the lobby. The connection will force time out, and you will get a smug Garfield telling you that it is impossible to join the game. Just click once, and give the game a few moments to connect.

STARTING MATCH

Once you have at least two players, an icon to start the race will appear on the bottom right corner on the host's screen. Keep in mind the rest of the players will be substituted with AI to create a full race of 6 players.

Impossible to Join Game Error

If you get this error, it means you clicked join too many times. You only need to click once, and then wait.

Return to the lobby list, and click on the name of the game you want to join just ONCE.

This error may also occur if the game host starts the game before you fully connect to the room. This may also occur as a result of poor internet connections between the host and client.

Keep in mind this game currently only allows joining a game from PC to PC.

Misc

If you are having trouble running the game itself, remember you must launch the game directly from the Steam client. It will not run properly through the start menu or shortcuts (missing executable).
