INTRODUCTION
The Albertosaurus is a sandbox dinosaur. Because of this, it is extremely unbalanced. Playing as Alberto leaves you incredibly overpowered in some situations, and horrifyingly underpowered in others.
You can abuse this power against players, but know, that some may abuse your weaknesses in turn.

Oh and, Alberto's can't smell or nest.
Or change their colors.

I know, I know, this sounds like a bad deal, but trust me, you're gonna want to hear the upsides of being a broken Dino.
Growth Duration
Here's a handy chart to see how long it takes to grow Alberto from any point.
Basically, every 0.1 of growth takes 40 minutes.
Wiki Stats
HOW TO GROW
As juvie Alberto you are basically a glass turret, even more so than in it's adult stage.
The Alberto's bite doesn’t seem to scale with its weight, so you do more damage than any other juvie.
But since it doesn’t have a true juvie stage, it's actually just a tiny adult, it is also extremely slow, has a terrible turning radius, and it's lack of camouflage makes it even more vulnerable to attack.

So you may be able to beat any other juvie at facetanking, but you’ll still die in one hit to anything other than a Utah, at least until you start weighing as much as them.

Oh and, you need a lot of water. About one full belly every 30 minutes. Food isn’t a problem, you’ll have to drink about twice as much as you eat, but since Alberto’s water intake is terrible, it’ll also take forever to drink.

You better find a good spot to drink without being seen, otherwise it’s over.
ADULT ALBERTO
In General, the Alberto is an extremely fast fighter. You won’t need to use your ambush like Allo, even though yours lasts much longer. But you’ll have to defeat your enemies fast, as you have neither much stamina nor much bleed.
TLDR: Hold shift and don't let go. Turn left, bite, kill. Don't waste your stamina, always make sure you can either run, or win.

Your Turn

Your turn is great, when running.
It's good when ambushing,
bad when crouching and trotting, terrible when walking.

This is because your turn is almost as tight when running, as it is when walking, only the speed changes.
Because of this you can't easily buttride something that turns tight and slowly (Rexes. Acros, Suchos, Ceras), but you can ride anything that turns wide and fast no problem. (Gigas, Theris, Allos, Dilos)

This means if you fight something your size, alternate between sprinting and standing still until you win.
Your turn might be slightly tighter when walking or crouching, but it's too slow.
When buttriding, always either z-walk or sprint, when behind something stop ambushing, yes, stop ambushing and sprint instead, it's tighter. If your enemy breakchecks you, turn your head to make your hitbox shorter.
When being buttridden, if you're the faster dino, turn into your opponent to get your tail away from their mouth, and then run in a straight line, create enough distance to turn around and bite them. If you're the slower one, just sprint left, bite over your shoulder, fake turning right, and breakcheck after running straight for a bit while biting down.

Stats

Your sprint is phenomenal.
Your ambush is great, and at 15 seconds, lasts longer than anything elses (besides sub Rex).
(It's almost twice as long a Ceras', and 50% longer than Allos'.)
You swim very slowly, but you can run into the water and get a lot of momentum like carno.

Health and Bite damage are good.
(You kill a Rex in 30 bites, an Allo in 7, a Theri in 17)
Your bleed damage is... not good. At all.
If you want something dead, you'll have to do it yourself.

Heal is ok.
You heal exactly 10% (300 health) in 60 seconds when sitting.
You heal from fourth screen to full health in 10 minutes when sitting.

Bleed heal is bad.
You heal by one tick (about 1.75 bleed) every 60 seconds when sitting.
So when hit by a Dilo once it'll heal in 4 minutes when sitting.
Healing from a Giga bite will take 10 minutes.
Healing from max bleed will take 14 minutes.

Bleed resistance is terrible, almost any fight will put you on the ground for 10 minutes at least.
Try to kill your enemies without getting hit, I guess ^^

There is a rumor that you can bleed out even when sitting as Alberto, but this never happened to me, even when I tried it on purpose.

Stamina is terrible.
Stamina regen is abysmal.

Any fight will leave you without much stamina, so you’ll need to commit to any battle, defeat your opponent as fast as possible, while wasting as little stamina as you can. (Unless it's a Rex, Trike or Shant, then you can run away)
If you fight with a big group, don't get hit ever, and run away if you get two drops of bleed.
In short: Overwhelm your enemies, and don’t stop till they drop.

WARNING: The Albertos MAJOR WEAKNESS
The biggest problem that Alberto’s lack of balance creates, is its lack of stamina, which means that if a Giga or Acro gets close to you, it will kill you.
EVERY ENCOUNTER IN THE GAME:
~Weaknesses~
Acros:
The Acro’s sprint is much faster than Albertos, even if its shorter, and its trot is one of the fastest in the game. Keep your distance to Acros at all times, and if it runs after you, run and hide.
Unless you disappear into the woods, you cannot run from an Acro.
There is almost no way for you to beat an Acro in a 1v1.

If you do fight an Acro, just keep running after it, inflict as much damage as possible.
At least you'll die knowing that it'll take 4 hours for it to heal.
Gigas:
A Giga is almost as bad of a matchup to an Alberto as the Acro is, it’s much slower than the Alberto at sprinting and ambushing, but as you should know, the Giga is even better at long distance travel than the Acro is. If a Giga feels like abusing this weakness of yours, it can trot you down, and force you to hide.
Defeating a Giga is not impossible, though. In fact, it's less difficult to kill a Giga than it is to kill an Acro. In a 1v1, it’s possible to ambush around a Gigas right side, and butt ride it to death. However, it is much, much more difficult to do this to a Giga, than a Rex.
But there is a chance. If you fail to get behind the Giga, you can tank a bite, and immediately butt ride it. If you hit almost all of your bites, and never let the Giga bite you a second time, you can kill it before you bleed out.

I have never gotten the chance to kill a Giga in survival, because flight is a much safer option, but if you manage to do so, you will forever have my respect.

I have by now killed multiple Gigas in survival. It is one of the most frustrating and rewarding pursuits I've experienced in the game. So, get yourself a good friend and bully a giga!
~Carnivores~
Utahs:
If you hit a Utah once, it will bleed out seconds later. Your turn when sprinting is pretty great, and your ambush is actually ever so slightly faster than a Utah's sprint. If you don’t let them get behind you you’re good, and Albertos stop on the spot. If a Utah manages to get at your butt, trying to brake check them is a good tactic. Try to break check by slightly turning, then stopping after 5 seconds. Bite down and to the left.
If a Utah sees it coming, try to run again and immediately break again when they get close, the "double break check" if you will.
Alternatively you can perform sprinting left turns, and if the Utah is close enough to your mouth, you can hit it's tail with the busted hitbox. Unfortunately a great Utah player will manage to kill you if you let it, not much you can do about it.

At least you're not an Allo or Sub Rex.
Dilos:
Dilos get absolutely bullied by Albertos.
The Dilos sprint and ambush is slower than Albertos', so they get destroyed in a fight.
Try to not be mean to them.

Ok well, your ambush is quite a bit better than Dilos, and you crouch much faster than them.
But your sprint is almost the same, so unless you're willing to waste all of your stamina running after one, you won't catch them that easily.
But your ambush lasts longer than anyone elses, so if you catch one out of ambush, it's finished.
Carnos
Carnos are faster than you. By quite a bit.
You'll make it unable to get away if you hit it three times, kill if with four.
If a carno is dumb enough to fight you, go for it. It literally can't hit you if you just dodge it, it sure as hell won't kill you first, since it'll have to hit you twice as much as you to even make you bleed out.
Ceras:
Ceras have a much better turn radius than you do, so don’t try to butt ride them for more than two bites. Luckily for you, Cera is a terrible Dino, so you can just hit and run, and you will kill them much faster than they will kill you. You can run them down almost as easily as Allos.
The only thing a Cera might be able to do, is not run into you, but stand still, wait for you to pass, and turn around. But in that case you just have to stop inside them and keep biting until they move.
Allos:
You can easily destroy an Allo, it’s not a fair fight. The Allos’ turn when sprinting is about as good as yours, but you have speed on your side. You can run down an Allo, even when its in ambush, so most Allos will run when they see you, if you can’t manage to get behind them though, you can always use your sprint to run through them, gain some distance and turn around.

If you just keep running and turning into them, they will die almost twice as fast as you.
But stay on your toes, the Allos’ bleed can get your health down quite quickly.
Sucho:
This is a bad time for Alberto.
Suchos have a much better turn radius at slow speed, more health, damage and bleed.
Only try it if you have the numbers.
Sub Rex:
Go for it. Sub Rex is basically a more balanced, tanky version of the Alberto, it has more health and a stronger bite, but you’re faster. If you keep sprinting around it, you can take it out. But it’s not easy.
Rex:
Rexes are a great match for an Alberto. You can 1v1 a Rex by getting behind it and ambushing around it's right side (pretty risky). If you hit a standing/walking Rex in rapid succession it'll take exactly 31 bites to kill it, less if it trots.

So butt riding a Rex will take you less than 30 hits to kill it, and you’ll waste about half your stamina doing it. It’s dangerous, but fun. Your sprint is a bit faster than the Rexes, but be careful, the Rexes ambush is faster than your sprint, so if you disengage from a crouching Rex, it can catch up to you.
But if you keep about three body lengths away from it, it won’t catch up before its ambush runs out.

Most Rexes don’t know that, so you can bait them to waste their stamina ambush running after you.
In a group fight, a smart Rex might never sprint, wait for an Alberto to waste its stamina, then run after it and kill it. Always watch your stamina, it doesn’t regen very fast.
Sub Giga:
Sub Gigas are... bad. They do a lot of bleed per hit, but they turn so slowly that you'll just buttride them to death. You probably won't get hit more than two or three times if you just run at it, you might actually be able to get behind it and take it down without it getting it's mouth close to you at all.
Spino
Spino's turn very, very quickly on a short turn radius, making them very dangerous to attack.
Their Ambush is also slightly faster than a Gigas and lasts 3 seconds longer, meaning it can catch up to in sprint you if you dont keep three body lenghts of distance to it.

You can however fight them. If you manage to engage a Spino directly from behind, you can get two or three hits in before running out.

If you try to buttride them for more than 3 bites though, they will simply outturn you and bite you in the tail. You cannot solo a Spino under any circumstance.

A Spino will kill you in 3 hits, so you can actually run for a bit after getting hit twice before bleeding out. You can run about three times as long after getting hit by a spino than getting hit by a trike.
~Herbivores~
Herbies to avoid
A Diablo will beat an Alberto in a 1v1 easily, a 2v1 isn't great either. They do massive bleed, which you won't heal any time soon, they turn on the spot, which you can't, and they turn very fast.
If you and a Dibble stand still, you actually win the trade, but all a Dibble has to do is walk in circles, and you're screwed.
Be careful Dibbles have a lot more stamina than you do, and they can run you down if you don't disappear fast.
In a 2v1 you can beat them, but you will be bleeding on the floor doing so.

Ankys and especially Stegos beat Alberto. There is no point in getting close to one, ever.
You can hit the Anky without getting hit yourself if you're exceedingly skilled, but what's the point.

Trikes you can buttride at your own risk, and they're worse at running you down than Gigas or Rexes. They can turn on the spot and they have a huge hitbox. You can survive one stomp. That means they're much harder to take down, but if you get hit you can still run for about 30 seconds before you bleed out, so you might live at least.

Camas aren't gonna go down to an Alberto, due to your low bleed damage. You can hit them somewhat reliably without getting tailswiped, so do as you please.
Maias
Maias run slower than your ambush. Your ambush lasts 15 seconds. They barely do any damage to you. You kill them in 6 hits. Their turn is bad.
Honestly, Albertos are made for killing Maias.
If one is dumb enough to run past you it's already dead.
Paras
Get destroyed by Alberto, just don't get stomped.
Theris:
Albertos are strong against Pachys and Theris (relatively).

Theris do not cause bleed.
Alberto is the only mid-tier fast enough to outrun a Theri, so if it's alone, you can beat it.
If you spot a lone Theri, it can keep up with you for quite some distance, it also has a faster trot and insane stamina regen, so hiding will be difficult, running... impossible.
The easier alternative, is to dive into it while sprinting, cornering as hard as you can, and getting behind it. It might hit you once or twice, get you down to half health, it might even kill you if you're unlucky, but once you're behind it, you can finish it off.
A Theri cannot escape from an Alberto that's on it's behind, it can only try to breakcheck you. Get some experience at avoiding a Theri's breakcheck, by keeping your distance, not running straight at all times, and turning your head when inside it's back, you can learn to win 90% of fights against a Theri in a 1v1.
Shant
Shants are slightly slower than Theris, and don't cause bleed, so you can tank a few hits. They do about 20% damage per hit, so you can survive 4 headbutts, but one Stomp will kill you. You can buttride them in a 2v1 fairly easily, as they have even less stamina than you do.
Of course it'll take around 50 bites to kill it if you go hard, so it's a very long fight, add to that the fact that you can't let your stamina go below half, or you'll risk getting run down, it's gonna take about 20 minutes in a 2v1, 15 in a 3v1. You should consider a fight against a Shant the boss fight of the game.
Glass Cannon
The Alberto can be very powerful, but it has its limits.
Don’t abuse your power by killing every Mid-Tier you see, ok? ^^

i love playing as this i think i have like 50 hours on it, i love killing cocky utahs who think can outrun me, i love yes if the albertosaurus isn't going to look like a disgusting version of the t-rex in evrima maybe i would play it there if it gets released, i love albertosaurus, i love so much because it cool, also you can kill theri if you ride its tail for a long time, maias are pretty easy i think, paras just i dont know i never try to attack them, i love albertosaurus, i love albertosaurus o sao love albertosaurus
Solitary Day  [author] Jan 23, 2022 @ 5:46pm
Break checking basically means moving forwards and then suddenly stopping on a point, that way your opponent might run through you and you can hit them by biting downwards

Thanks for the suggestions, good point on the spino thing.

can some one help me with what "break cheking" means? i'v been on the isle so long and still dont know what it means ;-;
Astabolt Jan 21, 2022 @ 6:52pm
thanks this is pretty useful! only things I'd consider adding would be sub giga and spino, especially since spino's forgotten in a number of fighting guides and a bunch of people play it, otherwise this is very well-written
