[WoWs] Pros And Cons With Each Nation

If you are a new player, you might not know which nation to start with. This guide will go over the most basic pros and cons with each nation so that you have a rough idea of what to expect.

Japan

Battleship Line

Pros

• Long firing range and fairly high damage
  
• Low/good dispersion in higher tiers

Cons

• Weak Anti Air defense strength
  
• Fairly slow turret traversion speed

Overall
The Japanese battleships deal fairly high damage, can shoot very far, and have pretty low dispersion once you get high tier ships, which makes them good as "snipers". Try to stay away from aircraft carriers though.

Cruiser Line

Pros

• High rate of fire
  
• Good enemy detection
  
• Pretty strong Anti Air defense strength

Cons

• Fairly weak armor
  
• Fairly slow turret traversion speed

Overall
The Japanese cruisers can detect enemies pretty well and spam HE shells to deal a lot of damage, but they are also very easy to destroy.

Destroyer Line

Pros

• Very strong torpedoes that can easily take down enemy ships
  
• Hard to detect

Cons

• Low rate of fire

Overall
The Japanese destroyers have weak main battery guns. However, they are hard to detect, and their torpedoes absolutely make up for the weaker main bettery.

Aircraft Carrier Line

Pros

• AP Bombs
  
• Strong areial torpedoes
  
• Pretty good maneuverability

Cons

• Can run out of planes quickly

Overall
The Japanese aircraft carriers have planes that deal high damage, but in turn they can also be destroyed fairly easily.

USA

Battleship Line

Pros

• Strong repair party
  
• Upgradable main- and secondary battery guns

Cons

• Low speed

Overall
The American battleships are slow, but can also deal heavy damage and recover a good amount of HP.

Cruiser Line

Pros

• High rate of fire
  
• Good enemy detection
  
• High Anti Ait defense strength

Cons

• Weak to average torpedoes

Overall
The American cruisers can pretty easily detect enemies, have good good main battery guns, and can easily defend themselves against aircraft carriers.

Destroyer Line

Pros

• Good support ships
  
• Enhanced smoke screen

Cons

• Weak at medium to long range

Overall
The American cruisers are good at supporting allied ships, but they need to get up to close to do anything.

Aircraft Carrier Line

Pros

• Planes are effective against all ship types
  
• HE bombs

Cons

• Fast Attack Planes but slow Torpedo Bombers and Bombers
  
• Slow aim and few bombs

The American aircraft carriers have planes with mixed speeds, but they are effective against all ship types.

USSR

BEFORE YOU START READING THE PROS & CONS:
There is a Russian bias in this game, which means that all of their ships are very strong, and the best ships in the game are Russian. Therefore, it is never a bad idea to play a Russian ship, because sadly, they are usually much better than other nations' equivalents.

Battleship Line

Pros

• High HP
  
• Very strong armor, especially at the front
  
• High short range accuracy

Cons

• Weaker broadside armor
  
• Low maeuverability

Overall
The Russian battleships are some of the best ships in the game, especially in the high tiers. Just go in with your front facing the enemies, and you can tank all shells without taking damage while still dealing high damage to enemy ships within short to medium range.

Cruiser Line

Pros

• High rate of fire
  
• Good enemy detectability
  
• Fairly high Anti Air strength

Cons

• Weaker armor and pretty bad concealment

Overall
The Russian cruisers can deal heavy damage and defend themselves well against aircraft carriers. However, they can also be destroyed pretty easily by enemy ships.

Destroyer Line

Pros

• Many torpedo tubes that reload fast
  
• Pretty good main bettery guns at medium range

Cons

• Short range torpedoes that deal low damage

Overall
The Russian destroyers are a little weird. They can shoot many torpedoes, but they are pretty weak. Instead, they can deal pretty heavy damage with their guns at medium range.

Aircraft Carrier Line

No aircraft carriers.

Germany

Battleship Line

Pros

• Pretty good armor
  
• Very strong secondary guns
  
• Late tiers have strong consumables
  
• Pretty high Anti Air defense strength

Cons

• Very high/bad dispersion

Overall
The German battleships are pretty good at medium range. The bad dispersion prevents them from getting many hits, but it is possible to make loadouts that revolve around the secondary guns, which is recommended.

Cruiser Line

Pros

• High rate of fire
  
• Pretty good enemy detection
  
• Pretty high Anti Air defense strength

Cons

• Average or worse armor
  
• Pretty bad concealment and maneuverability

Overall
The German cruisers are not very good up until tier VI, but after that, they start getting stronger.

Destroyer Line

• Strong AP shells

Cons

• Weak smoke screen
  
• Fairly low Anti Air defense strenght

Overall
The German destroyers are average. There is not really anything special about them, but they are not really worse than other nations either.

Just like with the destroyers, the German aircraft carriers are not special in any way. They are not worse than other nations, but there is not really anything special about them.

Battleship Line

Overall
The British battleships can deal heavy damage, especially with HE shells, but they can also be destroyed fairly easily.

Cruiser Line

Pros

• High rate of fire
  
• Good enemy detectability
  
• Fairly high Anti Air strength

• Pretty weak armor

Overall
The British cruisers can deal heavy damage, and some of them can even shoot as often as once every 2-3 seconds. They have to be acareful though, because their armor is not the best.

Destroyer Line

• Torpedo flexibilty

Cons

• Low speed
  
• Weak smoke screen
  
• Pretty low Anit Ait defense strength

Overall
The British destroyers are not very strong, but instead they are a little more flexible. They are nothing special.

Aircraft Carrier Line

• Planes have a lot of HP

• Slower planes

Overall
Some of the planes have lower speed, but they are strong. The bombers are especially strong due to their ability to carpet bomb enemy ships.

• Low survivability

Overall
The French battleships are very fast and can be effective at all ranges, but they can easily get destroyed too.

Cruiser Line

The French cruisers are pretty effective and can hunt down enemy ships fast, but they have low armor, at least in the low tiers.

The French destroyers are very fast and can therefore get very close to enemies and deal damage, however, they cannot hide due to missing the smoke screen.

The Pan-Asian destroyers and their torpedoes can be hard to detect, but they are nothing special.

Overall

You need to consider line splits as well, you say that IJN destroyers have weak main battery guns which is true for the torpedo line but completely false for the gunboat line. Otherwise it is a good guide
