Server Hosting/Port Forwarding
By Omixsat
A guide that helps let you and your friends connect to your server. If you are connected directly to a modem that isnt a router at the same time then this does not apply to you.

Setting Up Your PC's Connection
This is a step-by-step guide to be familiar with your pc's connections and how to let others join your server. Lets start off by preparing your PC for hosting.

This step-by-step approach applies to those who connect under router's or such alike:
1) Check the Initial ports used by the DinoHordeGame.exe

  • DinoHordeGame.exe uses port 7777-7779 when hosting a server from within the client
  • When hosting a dedicated server try to AVOID using ports 7777-7779.
  • Port 9989 (or any other port it uses is ignored)

2) Checking your PC's IP-Router Connection (Two ways)

2.a) Command Prompt Method

a.1) Open Command Prompt
a.2) Type: "ipconfig/all"
a.3) Locate active connection (see pic below for example)

Notes:
  • You can spot the active connection when you see the default gateway is active under any connection that has internet
  • Be sure that if you are using a router always use static lease[IP/MAC] if using DHCP to map any IP address you like to use to a client computer with a specific mac address
  • If your IPv4 address has the word (preferred) beside the IP address then you are most likely using static lease.
  • DHCP is enabled by default
  • Your local IP address is also known as your IPv4
  • If you are unsure about the static lease then follow this tutorial[portforward.com]
  • Static lease is found in your router's settings so be sure to read your router manuals.

2.b) Windows Interface

b.1) Open Control Panel
b.2.a) If you are using category view -> Click on View Network Status and Tasks.
b.2.b) If you are using by icons view -> Click on Network and Sharing Center.
b.3) Find the Connection that has active internet (see pic below)

b.4) Click on the active connection. The words that are beside the Signal or Cord Icon.
b.5) Press Details then Look at the IPv4 Adress.
b.6) Copy that address and put it somewhere.

3) Open any internet browser and access your router's settings
  • Depending on the default gateway of the router you have. You use that to connect to the router's settings.
  • Default Gateway IP's usually: 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (check router manual or the router itself just to be sure)
  • Type the IP address of your router on the browser's address bar and press enter

5) Forward your ports from 7777-7779 to your IPv4/Local IP address (see pic below for sample)

  • DinoHordeGame.exe Uses UDP protocol.
  • The one shown on the pic is just a sample don't copy that directly.

6) Save the settings and restart router.

7) Open Dino Horde then Host a server

8) Run a map and "pause" (esc button) then press find server.

9) Locate the name of your server.

10) Play with your friends

Nice guide, it is good that you point out that there is only 1 UDP port that is relavent. It really is kinda confusing with whole UDK stuff without some hints but ... well it managable. Also if you have multiple networks its pain sometimes ( at least for dedicated server there is option to set witch address to use , unsure about in-game hosting).
