Winning in Wazhack (updated with 1.3 Tips!)
By MasterMindHaxer
This guide will teach you about the secrets to winning in Wazhack that I have found. This guide will work best with the Knight, but should work with other classes by modifying it according to the abilities/limitations of that class. Follow it, and I can guarantee that you will win.

Starting Wazhack
The way you play at the beginning is the most crucial part of wazhack.

At the beginning, when you select your class, you must modify your character's stats. You want to raise your strength to max, and also Charisma to max. Yes, I said charisma. Now, you may be asking "Why charisma? It's the most useless skill in the game!" If that is what you think, then you are completely wrong. One thing I have found that makes this game easier is a high charisma skill. It is basically your "luck" factor. Winning in Wazhack requires quite a bit of luck, but also skills and knowledge from past characters that have failed to reach the bottom level. Anyway, the Charisma skill will increase the amount of enchanted loot, lessen the amount of cursed loot, and increase the chance of finding rare items. In order to win the game, you need really good gear, and nothing else really matters. It also increases the amount of vendors and prisoners, which is also quite important.

Now that you have finished setting up your character, you can start playing the game. At the beginning of the game, you will be picking up a lot of basic loot. Ignore all the weapons that are dropped from enemies, unless they are rare (longswords, broadswords, greatswords, oriental swords, etc.) Any armor and jewelry that you find should be picked up, but NEVER wear it right away. Always give it to your starting pet, as they will tell you if it is cursed or not. If it is cursed, leave it behind. If your pet doesn't drop it after a few seconds (you let time pass, meaning that you must rest or move), you can take it from that pet and wear it. No matter how comfortable you are with your current armor, always check the enchants of armor by wearing it if it isn't cursed. You may end up finding +5 armor, and that's always good. Make sure you also give weapons and wands to your pet before you use them. If your pet drops cursed jewelry or wands, don't throw it away, but pick it up and sell it to the vendor. If you are encumbered, give some items that you aren't going to use anytime soon to your pet. If you have the midas bag, just place unwanted stuff that you want to sell in there(no spellbooks or potions, because they will just become gold spellbooks or potions.), and it will turn into nice, light gold. If you have the bag of holding, you have no problems.

Picking what you will level up is the most important basic part of this game. You want to raise Weapon precision to level 1, then courage to level 1, then weapon knowledge to level 1 and 2, weapon precision to level 2, weapon knowledge to level 3, first aid to level 1 and 2, shield to 1, first aid to 3, etc... Once you have weapon knowledge level 3, you can identify weapon enchants. This will help you get tons of money, as +2 enchants and above are worth a lot. You can also identify One-of-a-kind weapons just by clicking KNOWLEDGE.

Last thing:

Never become encumbered. You are as good as dead if you do that.

Here are some tips on items that you pick up.

Scrolls: Don't use them until you feel like it is necessary. You don't want to end up using a destroy armor scroll. You can guess which scrolls are which by looking at the amount you have in your inventory. The scroll that you have most of is usually an identify scroll. You can use that to identify other scrolls. Once you find out which scroll is destroy armor and scroll of fire, you can pretty much use your scrolls freely, as long as they aren't cursed unidentified scrolls. Most cursed scrolls are ok (actually, to be honest, nothing good can come from cursed scrolls of any kind), but cursed enchantment scrolls are very bad. Same with cursed create creature scrolls (13 enemies at once is brutal, unless you spawn a gas spore in the middle of the mob). Keep them anyway, because you may find a way to uncurse the scroll. Enchantment scrolls are rare, so it is always best to keep them and uncurse them. Keep all scrolls, and dip bad scrolls in the fountain so you can make blank scrolls and copy other scrolls. Make sure you have a copy of an enchantment scroll with you, as you need to use them to write copies of them. I believe cursed enchantment scrolls will work, but the chance of writing a cursed enchantment scroll is a bit higher than an uncursed enchantment scroll. This is required if you want to win.

Leather (brown) bags: Identify the leather bag. Once you identify one leather bag, you will also know which brown bags are leather and which ones are special. This is extremely important. If you leave rare enchanted items behind, enemies will pick them up and use them against you. You want to put all good items into the midas bag to sell them or the bag of holding so you can also sell them to the vendors later.

Lamps: Rub lamps at the beginning of the game. If you get a wish, get 3 blessed +3 immutable silver (or other dragon color) dragon scale mail armor. The extra sets can be given to the freed prisoners, as they are actually very good to have. If you get an evil djinni, You can kill it. It is actually quite easy to accomplish. Here's the secret: Djinnis cannot climb ladders :). (I may actually be wrong about this, because some dijinnis don't go up ladders and others do.... but this will work for the ones that don't climb.) Once it uses up the wand, you can kill it easily with a bow or spells. If you don't have those.... well, you should probably bring one along next time.

Pet: Your starting pet is insanely important if you want to win. When I won the game, my pet lived all the way to the end. (Of course, I revived it like 10 times). Always try to keep your pet alive. It tells you what items are cursed, and that is something I appreciate very much. Also, a pet = extra inventory space.

Mini-dungeons: I don't really know what to call the large doors, small doors, drains, and holes, so I will call them mini-dungeons. These are also very important to use. Only use them towards the top levels though, because the lower level dungeons are brutal. These basically give you quick levels at the beginning. You will need these levels to identify the enchantments of weapons.

Vendors: Sell all +2 and above items that you aren't using to the vendor. It is very, very profitable. Same with cursed jewelry and cursed/useless wands (includes probing, nothing, invisibility).

Fountains: Drink from all the fountains at the beginning of the game, because it will give you free stats without worrying about the de-buffs getting you killed. Do not drink from the lower level fountains, because they become rarer and you want to dip scrolls to make more enchantment scrolls.

Quoted from Cubic's Rube:

I would also suggest killing and eating specific molds, namely: Red and Brown ones. Red can give you intrinsic fire resistance and brown ones give you cold resistance. If you have one, you should attack them with a sickle, it always hits them and has a higher chance to give you goo right in your inventory. Poison resistance can be gotten from eating killer bee goos and maybe soldier ant or redback goo (although I'm not sure).

I think that Just about covers the beginning. I will come back to it if I missed anything.
Clearing the Gnomish Mines
The Gnomish mines is an area that will make your game very easy. It is very hard to clear if you do not know the secrets of the mines.

The Gnomish mines contain Gnomes, which are really weak. A lot of EXP can be obtained from this area. The problem is: the gnomes have walkers that block magic. Well, there's a way past that. It's quite simple to be honest. What you do is: you get a wand of magic missile (make sure your pet has checked if it is cursed or not) and bounce it off of the roof of the mines. You can also use an arrow to kill it, but that requires the right angle which is only available when you first see the walker from far away. That should kill the gnome operating it, and now you don't have to worry about it killing you. That's actually all there is to it. If you get a pickaxe, use it to mine the rocks at the back of the mine. That will get you a lot of gems, which will be a good source of money. You can sell it at the gnomish jeweler that is usually above or below the gnome king's room.

Now, after you sell and identify the jewels that you got, you should probably have a few firestones and gas stones. Now, go to the gnome king, and place a gas stone at the door way. Now, throw a firestone at the gnome king. Before the firestone explodes, throw a second gas stone into the room. Don't throw the gas stone too early though, because you will end up not triggering the firestone because you angered the king and his guards so that they walk out of the area without the firestone exploding. If you do this successfully, you should have gotten a lot of gold, and a key to the wine cellars. Now go down to the wine cellar, and fight the Huge rats. There will be 3 of them, and they are quite easy to beat. When you kill them, they will always drop +3 enchanted items. This doesn't mean that they aren't cursed. Once you are set here, you can pretty much beat the game. Just make sure you drink every last bit of the wine when you are at full health, because your health increases if you drink a blessed potion of wine. If there is a priest near by, have him bless the wine. It's not necessary to bless the wine unless you want to beat Bacchus in the roman fort (extremely hard, only for very experienced players who feel they have the perfect set up.)
The middle
In the middle, there really isn't much to do. Basically, you want to pick up enchanted items, try on uncursed armor, free prisoners, beware the mindflayers and disenchanters, and kill the master lich before it spawns the dead. Ignore the roman area, because the health and attack speed of the Enemies there are extremely high. I tried getting past the roman guards at the beginning, and I almost died. I don't remember what I did exactly to survive, but I managed to kill them. They killed all 3 of my prisoners that were wearing armor that was as good as mine and one of them had The Cleaver. They also killed my dog too. Perhaps if it weren't for them, I would have died. I revived them all because I had tons of potions. I wish if I had taken a screen shot of my epic party of 4 and a dog, but I didn't. They all got polymorphed at one point except for the dog, which I was able to save. (I didn't care for them after they were polymorphed, because one turned into a bat, another into a red mold, and the third into a large kobold. I actually kept the kobold alive because he was holding a lot of my stuff, and my dog couldn't hold much more). Anyway, you want to throw down a portal stone on the higher levels so that you can return quickly with the amulet of zaw. Don't fight elementals, just cancel them with the wand of cancelation. This includes vortexes. Freeze disenchanters so that they don't ruin your enchanted stuff. Over all, just survive, and don't be stupid. Keep your pet alive.

Quoted directly from Cubic's Rube:

You can also cancel disenchanters and aquators with a wand of cancellation and they won't be able to affect you or attack, and it also works on the wicker man if they spawn but they are not that annoying. Seriously though, cancellation is like the most useful wand in the game next to wishing.
Also Wand of Cold + Striking kills all enemies that can be frozen in one hit. Yes, it works on the dragon, but then you don't get the Amulet, so don't do it.
The Dragon (end)
These tips hopefully have gotten you to the dragon. What you need to do with the dragon is:
Throw gas stones at it. It will damage the dragon and the dragon will stay asleep. You can rest until it dies. (NOTE: NOT VERY EFFECTIVE AGAINST GREEN DRAGON. IT RESISTS THE POISON MOST OF THE TIME, EVEN THOUGH IF YOU WAIT LONG ENOUGH IT WILL DIE.)There is no reason to fight the dragon directly, and make sure you have the amulet of Versus poison and a ring of fire protection. If this is done, the dragon should be dead. You can retrieve the amulet, and use the portal stone to go up and win.

Seems simple, doesn't it? Try it out if you haven't done so already, and I hope this helps you all out. It would be awesome if you left a rating and favorited this guide too, since you read up to this point :)

That's all it takes to win :)

note: I played this in browser. I was encumbered at the end because I decided to pick up the crystal armor that my kobold pet (used to be a prisoner) dropped after it died coming out of the portal. My dog was still alive, and my weapon was a blessed +8 Broadsword of Regeneration. As you can also see, I was extremely rich to the end, even after re-forging my armor and broadsword and blessing everything I owned.
Gameplay Pictures
This section will be showing pictures that I took after I played using this guide.

This wasn't done through pure luck..... This was done through skill and luck. You can do this too if you read the guide, as I shared my secrets and my skill to you all here.

lol

Beware the Balrog? The Balrog should beware me.

This is it, I'm gonna kill the dragon. (I have no clue as to what is going on here with the formatting)

This dragon is poison resistant, which is quite unfortunate.... It still takes poison damage, but I believe it heals faster than it dies.

GG.

And I won again.

The important items. Dem death wands.

After winning. Unsatisfactory score :(

I find it funny how I only killed 1 lichen and 1 red mold.

The final abilities are basically the same as the previous ability list.

Again, no clue as to WHAT is going on here with the formatting.....
Secret of the CONSTRUCTS!
This is something I have found out that I haven't seen anywhere else. Here it goes: YOU CAN MAKE CONSTRUCTS BY ZAPPING THINGS WITH WANDS OF POLYMORPH! I was dropping 3 small wooden shields that the druid begins with because they are -3 wooden shields. I accidentally zapped them instead of me, and I got a wicker man. It may be possible to make others as well. But now, I found out what the 3 shields were actually supposed to do.

Basic requirements: At least 3 materials that can be used to contruct golems must be piled. The more you add, the more you make. You must use a blessed wand of polymorph to create a friendly construct. Beast mastery allows you to make more constructs at once. These constructs have lots of health and do not need to be fed.

*(unconfirmed) means that I haven't tried it myself, and I haven't seen anybody else do it.

*(required amount unconfirmed) means that I do not know how much of the item you need to create the golem. It is most likely 3, although I highly doubt that 3 wood arrows would make a wood golem.

*types unconfirmed means that I don't know what armor types work or not.

Wickerman: Polymorph at least 3 wood shields or clubs. (wood arrows also seem to work.)

Leather Golem: leather suits (required amount unconfirmed) (unconfirmed)

Wood Golem: Wood Arrows (required amount unconfirmed) (unconfirmed) (So far doesn't work, may require a lot of arrows.)

Stone Golem: Giant clubs (required amount unconfirmed) (unconfirmed)

Iron Golem: Suits of armor (types unconfirmed, required amount unconfirmed) (unconfirmed)

Gold Golem: Use the wand of polymorph on 1000 gold to create it (unconfirmed)

If you can provide pictures for these, please feel free to comment about it.

Winning as a Huntsman (pictures)
Using my own guide, I managed to win as a huntsman. It took me around 6 tries to get past the gnomish mines. Once I was past that, the rest was pretty easy. I also find that having either the bag of holding or the midas bag makes your game much easier. Here are the pictures now!

This is a picture of me testing the polypiling of arrows. It didn't create a wood golem, so I assume that I require more arrows than I tested with.

This is the result.

The vorpal blade.

The secret to a long life? Lots and lots of blessed wine. Bless all your wine that you get from the cellar. I didn't have enough money to bless all of my wine at that point, but you will see that I did it later on.

Ogre Orgy Murder Fest 2014. I Shreked them.

I saw 2 balrogs this round. They were stronger than I remembered, but still not as bad as a master lich.

The dragon was a piece of cake; I killed it in 3 seconds, using 2 firestones and 2 frost stones and 1 shock stone. I didn't wear the amulet of zaw because it was useless to me; I was already protected from all elements and could detect creatures and could control teleport. All my pets lived to the end, but dogs cannot teleport up the ladders at the bottom level, so I had to leave all 3 there.

I could win here. But I decided to go back down to complete the roman fort because the bladed bow does so much damage and has a high melee attack speed on top of being able to fire arrows. I knew I had a chance that I may never have again, and I'm glad I took it.

I beat baccus. The fort was very hard. The enemies have a high attack speed and constantly do 20 damage per attack. Each of them have around 200 health, because I hit them for 40 damage around 5 times. I had no trouble what so ever, but the fort requires very little skill. It purely requires brute force.

Now I will go win. I took every single item off of my pets so I can show off what I kept.

Wishing!
The wiki will tell you everything there is to know about wishing using fountains. Do it if you're feeling lucky. Me personally? I don't believe in wishing wells.

1.3 update Tips!! (They're finally here!)
1.3 update TIPS! At long last!

So after I played the 1.3 beta, I only noticed that a few things were different. #1 was that the starting menu has eggs flying out. You will see these eggs later in game, and you will find out that they give you allies if you hold on to them until they hatch. Usually these allies are pretty terrible. That is, until you get into the late game..... When you see the second thing I noticed. There are now dragon enemies in the game. That's right, now you have to fight smaller versions of the final boss. But the best thing about these dragons? They have eggs. Yes, you can have dragon allies. It's amazing really. The next new thing I noticed was that there are some new potions and some new scrolls, like the potion of ludacris speed and the scroll of invulnerbility. I haven't tried invulnerbility scroll yet because I don't see any reason to use it. The Final and most interesting thing I found was when you push C. Your character now has the ability to pray to a god and recieve a gift that may save you from death. That's all I remember seeing.

Other major changes:
A new "command all pets at once" button
Throwing items now has physics included, making items fly in an arc. (doesn't effect arrows)

Now for the Tips!

So 1.3 isn't very different from the previous update, which should be expected. Now, I believe it's actually easier to beat the game. The fact that you can pick up eggs and get free allies makes you do a lot of damage and they are expendable. Once you gear up at the gnomish mines, you just have to keep going down, getting allies. As soon as you get some dragon hatchlings, you've reached the point where the game is now a push-over. These hatchlings are not unkillable, but they are very strong and breathe fire, meaning that the pesky elementals and fogs won't bother you anymore (unless they are fire or shock). With all of these pets, you can now push the "all pets attack at once" button and basically murder everything with your army. Some cool new enemies include dragons, wrathes(they steal XP, nasty little things), giant skeletons, and the coolest thing of all: a skeleton hound! These skeleton hounds are strong, but they work exactly like normal dogs! The extra bonus is: they don't need to eat! They are really cool pets. (dragon hatchlings are far better of course, but you have to feed them once in a while).

If you are ever in trouble in your game, There is one cool way to save yourself now! You can pray to your god by pushing C, and he will help you when you are in trouble. I'm not sure what "the big guy" does, but I know that the "crystal" is guaranteed to help you once every level up. I haven't tried the other gods, so if you guys want, you can tell me about what they do.

Becareful of the gnomish mines. The king is now slightly smarter and will pick up magic stones that he comes across. Basically, only firestones with a large blast radius will work.

I think that's basically all there is to it. The bladed bow is a really powerful weapon, so if you're having trouble, try an archer and get a bladed bow. It hits like a long sword and has the speed of a dagger, and that damage has long range through arrows.
1.3 Winning game pictures!
These are pictures of me winning in 1.3. This is the best run I've ever done.

People who beat the game with this guide ;)
Basically a hall of fame section. While I can't confirm that you actually did it or not, it doesn't matter to me. I'll take your word for it and I'll put you on this list. Tell me if you've completed the game using this guide in the comments. (note: I'm not really updating the guide anymore, but if you still want to be here, I'll add you for fun :))

He's still quite dangerous as he hits hard, but if you can make it through the entire fort, you would surely be able to kill him. He's less dangerous than facing several romans at once, which is a constant and consistant thing in the fort.

only thing i disagree with is no, its not exetremely dangorous to beat the boss of the roman fort. i had health up to the map and i only lost like a quarter of it. Even being a magic character and there being a anti magic field didnt even increase the challange because hes just not in general that strong.

Depending on whether or not you are able to get a powerful battle bow with arrows, you may want to do Weapon Mastery instead of Wizardry, but escape spells like teleport away and haste self are also very important in the early game. Damage output via spells is unreliable because most of the tougher monsters have a chance to resist any spell you cast at them, completely negating the effect. Spells affecting yourself are best.
Homage Oct 25, 2015 @ 10:48am
Sure. I believe I took Dweomery first, then Wizardry, Dweomery, Weapon Mastery, Wizardry, Dweomery, Spell Mastery, Weapon Mastery, Commerce, Spell Mastery, Fury.
Since your primary damage output will be weapons, Weapon Mastery and bow skills are priorities after Dweomery. You will use a lot of utility spells, so Wizardry is a great talent for extra mana regen. Combine it with a robe (ornate is best because it gives speed) and a lich's cape (guaranteed drop at +2 from battle liches) or a cloak of magic regeneration for maximum mana. You should be able to cast teleport away many times to escape from serious monsters. Most of those can't be easily stunned with wizard lock, like balrogs, so teleport yourself instead of the monster because they can resist that too.
An important cloak to avoid is the cloak of displacement. Even though you can only get it by wishing, it is detrimental and not worth a wish because many attempts to zap yourself will miss.

I like how you told me what you did for your talents, but it would help a lot if you could tell me what you did in the order that you got them. Order does matter and I could probably guess what you got first, but it's far easier if you told me. Also, would you like me to add this to the guide in it's own section? I don't have any mage class info, so I'm willing to add it in.

[Part 5]
In the end, I was double speed from my wished-for ornate robe (786 gold) and speed boots. If you have fire resistance, the boss dragon is easy. Just keep your distance and spam frost, gas, and power stones (silver resists cold and green resists poison) and it will die quickly. The stones should also take care of the babies it spawns, and it cannot hit you from a distance. Its fire breath is harmless if you have fire resistance, and it can't move to reach you, but the babies can move and will bite you if they get close.
It seems to heal itself with spells, so throw all the stones you have to kill it quickly.
