Where the F are my addons located?

After the January 2020 update, the location of the .gma files been changed. Even if this update been out for a while now, there is probably still some people who struggle to locate their addons.

No worries, I got your back.

Introduction

Before the the January update, addons was located in : "Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons"

But if you been looking for addons that you have downloaded after this update, you may notice they can't be found in the addon folder anymore (I mean yeah that's obvious you wouldn't be there otherwise duuuh)

Before we start you're gonna need to enable the display of Steam URL.
If it's not already done go to Steam (at the top left of the screen) -> Settings -> Interface -> Check the option called "Display Steam URL address bar when available"

We're gonna need it.

Locate the game

The new path to the addons is

"Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\"

And you'll find this :



At first you may wonder wtf are those random numbers but no worries, they are more than random number.

Those are IDs, each number is in fact the ID of a game.

"Ok but what does that mean, where are my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Gmod addons?"

That's where the Steam URL come handy, this will allow you to identify what is the ID of a game, you just have to go to the store page of the game and check the URL.


For Garry's Mod, the game ID is 4000, so the addons are in the folder with the same ID.

Locate the Addon

Ok now we know that addons are in the 4000 folder so let's open this up and see--



Oh yeah, more random numbers...

Well, remember how we located the game?

That's literally the same thing.

Go to the addon page, check the URL, take the ID, search the folder with the same ID, and here you go.

The ID of addons are easy to find since it's always the same URL scheme.
"https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=xxxxxxxxxxxxx"

The x being the ID.

Congrats, you found your addon.

This guide does not only apply to Garry's Mod, but to all games who have their addons located in
"Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\"

just right click on any steam game then click open local files and then you will be in steam you just need to get to whatever folder you are looking for
