Spawn Mechanics
Spawning is really simple, just follow this picture I made for you and you can make efficient farms or bend spawning in your favor..

Blue - Player [2 x 3 blocks]

1st Red - No Spawn Zone [126 x 72 blocks / Full HD 1920x1080 Screen / Max Zoom Out]
Enemy will not spawn on your screen...

Green - Spawn Zone [170 x 97 blocks]
Enemy starts spawning outside your monitor...

2nd Red - No Spawn Zone [+170 x +97 blocks]
Enemy will stop spawning, if they're too far from the Player.
Arena Size and Spawning Platform Height

Arena Size

Spawning Platform Height

1. Image -> Enemies will not spawn, if you build the platform on 35th block beneath the Player.
2. Image -> Enemies will start spawning, if the plaform is on 36th block beneath the Player.
3. Image -> The furthest the platform can be, is on 50th block... 51th and deeper will prevent enemies from spawning.
Arena Types
Choosing places, where enemies will spawn. (By blocking it with Height or Lava)

Everywhere
Platform is far enough to spawn enemies in it's full width.

Only Sides
Spawning Platform (Purple) is built on 35th block beneath the player (too close), causing only side enemies to spawn...

Only Left Side
Just as "Only Sides", but right side is blocked with Lava. So enemies can only spawn on the left side.

Only Right Side
Same as "Only Left Side", but reversed.

Deepest Spawn Point
Spawning Platform can be lowered by 15 blocks, however it's very bad decision to make, as you have to dig more blocks, minions won't target enemies and enemies might despawn...
Types of Enemies
Choosing types of enemies, that will spawn

Spawning is affected by many factors:
If it's Day or Night,
if you build your arena on Surface, Underground or Caverns,
if there is a Event happening,
and most importantly,
Spawning Platform Block Type...

Multiple Biome Enemies can spawn in your Arena, if you build your Spawning Platform with different special biome blocks.

Forest Enemies - Most of all blocks, but the most common is Grass Blocks / Stone.
Jungle Enemies - Jungle Grass Block, Lihzahrd Temple Bricks
Desert Enemies - Sand
Snow Enemies - Snow, Ice Block
Hallowed Enemies- Pearlstone (Default), Pearlsand (Desert), Pink Ice Block (Snow)
Corruption Enemies- Ebonstone (Default), Ebonsand (Desert), Purple Ice Block (Snow)
Crimson Enemies - Crimstone (Default), Crimsand (Desert), Red Ice Block (Snow)
Spawning Rate
Default - ~1 Enemy per 10 seconds / 5 Max Enemies

Battle Potion -> (2x more enemies, 2x max enemies)
Water Candle -> (1,33x more enemies, 1,5x max enemies)
Jungle Blocks (140Jungle Grass / 140 Lihzard Blocks) -> (3x more enemies, 1,33x max enemies)

Deeper the Arena, More Enemies will spawn!
Surface -> (1x more enemies, 1x max enemies)
Underground -> (2x more enemies, 1,6x max enemies)
Cavern -> (2,5x more enemies, 1,8x max enemies)

Town NPCs Reduce Spawn Rate
Remember to not have Town NPCs near your arena, because it will rapidly lose it's effectivness. Watch out for Skeleton Merchant!

NPC Slots
Most enemies are counted as 1 slot, but there are exceptions - for example Bats, Fish or Spiders counts as half enemies (0,5 slot)

Full list of NPC Slots on https://terraria.fandom.com/wiki/NPC_spawning (Section "NPCs with non-default NPC slots")

Jungle Blocks (2x40) placed near the Player to increase spawn rate...
Stat Boosts and Extra Equipment

Banners for increased damage (+50% NORMAL, +100% EXPERT/MASTER)
and increased damage reduction (-25% NORMAL, -50% EXPERT/MASTER)
>Banners can be hanged on Jungle Blocks, their effects do not stacks, so you'll need one from each enemy... (Best to hang them on screen, so no unecessary blocks are built)

Bast Statue (+5 defense) (Oasis Crate from fishing / Desert Chest) (1.4 Exclusive)
Heart Lanterns (+2 HP per second) (1 Life Crystal + 4 Chains)
Honey (+2 HP per second) (Can be collected with bucket at Bee Hives at Underground Jungle)

Extra Equipment
Bewitching Table (+1 Minion)
Summoning Potion (+1 Minion)
Rod of Discord / Teleporter (Get into Arena without breaking blocks)

All Equipment shown in Inventory:
(Bast Statue ilustrated with Bat Statue, as in 1.3 version it wasn't in the game)

Applied Buffs should look like this:
