How to get Xbox controllers working on OSX (OSX version 10.11 (El Capitan) to 10.15 (Catalina))
***This will only work on OSX version 10.11 (El Capitan) to 10.15 (Catalina. This does not work on Big Sur or later***

To get Xbox controllers working on Mac the only thing you need to do is download and install a driver from GitHub. This driver is not made by me so I can offer no support on this driver other than this guide.

This is the driver suggested by the developer of Rewired (The input system for iVIBRATE) to get Xbox controllers working on Mac. To see more on gamepad support click here.[guavaman.com]

  • Download the Xbox driver from here.[github.com] Click the dropdown under "Assets" and download the "360ControllerInstall_1.0.0-alpha.6.dmg"
  • Once downloaded, begin the installation. Once installed restart your Mac.
  • The driver is now installed and Xbox controllers should work on your Mac in both wired and wireless.

The only issues I have come across so far are that holding the left or right triggers will cause the gamepad to vibrate and using a 3rd party Xbox controller does not work. So it needs to be an original Xbox controller.
