This Guide is a Work in Progress
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls action role-playing video game series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Skyrim was released on November 11, 2011, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Three downloadable content (DLC) add-ons were released—Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn—which were repackaged into The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition, which released on June 4, 2013 then the remastered special edition in 2016 and vr in 2017 .
Skyrim's main story revolves around the player character's efforts to defeat Alduin, a Dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. Set two hundred years after Oblivion, the game takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops their character by improving their skills. Unlike previous Elder Scrolls games, Skyrim does not require the player to select a character class at the beginning of the game, negating a problem the development team felt previous entries had by forcing the player into a rigid play-style too early in the game. Skyrim continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.
The game was developed using the in-house Creation Engine, built specifically for the game. Skyrim is not a direct sequel to previous Elder Scrolls games, but during development it was considered a spiritual successor to Oblivion and 2008's Fallout 3. The team opted for a more unique and diverse game world than Oblivion's Cyrodiil, which game director and executive producer Todd Howard considered less interesting by comparison. Skyrim premiered to critical acclaim, with reviewers particularly responding well to the refined character development system over previous Elder Scrolls entries. Critics cited the game's lack of polish and weak melee combat as negative factors. The game shipped over seven million copies to retailers within the first week of its release, and sold over 20 million copies across all three platforms.
Gameplay
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an action role-playing game, playable from either a first- or third-person perspective. The player may freely roam over te land of Skyrim, which is an open world environment consisting of wilderness expanses, dungeons, cities and towns. The player may navigate the game world faster by riding horses, or by utilizing a fast-travel system that allows them to warp to previously-discovered locations. The game's main quest can be completed or ignored at the player's preference after the first stage of the quest is finished. Non-player characters populate the world and can be interacted with in a number of ways; the player may engage them in conversation, or kill them. Crimes like murder and theft accrue the player bounty points in each of the world's nine districts. Should the player be stopped by a guard, they may wipe their bounty with gold or jail time, or may resist arrest which will trigger an aggressive pursuit. NPCs may allocate the player additional side-quests, and some side-quests have parameters adjusted based on nearby dungeons the player has yet to explore. Some NPCs that are befriended or hired by the player may act as companions who will accompany the player and provide aid in combat. The player may choose to join factions, which are organized groups of NPCs such as the Dark Brotherhood, a band of assassins. Each of the factions has an associated quest path to progress through. The cities and towns in the game world each have an economy, which the player can stimulate by completing jobs such as farming.
A perpetual objective for the player is to develop their character. At the beginning of the game, the player creates their character by selecting one of several races, including humans, elves and anthropomorphic creatures, and then customizes their character's appearance.Over the course of the game, the player improves their character's skills, which are numerical representations of their ability in certain areas. There are eighteen skills divided evenly between the three schools of combat, magic and stealth. When the player has trained skills enough to meet the required experience, their character levels up. Each time their character levels, the player may choose to select a skill-specific ability called a perk, or store perk points for later use. Unlike earlier entries in The Elder Scrolls series which used a character class system to determine which skills would contribute to the character's leveling, Skyrim allows the player to discover preferred skills as they play the game and rewards the player with more experience when a frequently-used skill is leveled.A head-up display (HUD) appears when any of the player's three main attributes are being depleted. Attributes regenerate over time, although this process can be accelerated by taking potions or regenerative spells. Health is depleted primarily when the player takes damage, and the loss of all health results in death. Magicka is depleted by the use of spells and by being struck by lightning-based attacks. Stamina determines the player's effectiveness in combat and is depleted by sprinting, power attacking, and being struck by frost-based attacks. The player's inventory can be accessed from the menu and items can be viewed in 3D, which may prove essential in solving puzzles found in dungeons.
The player's effectiveness in combat relies on the use of weapons and armor, which may be bought or created at forges, and magic, which may be bought or unlocked by finding spell tomes. Weapons and magic are assigned to each hand, allowing for dual-wielding, and can be swapped out through a quick-access menu of favorite items.Shields can be used to fend off enemy attacks and reduce incurred damage, or offensively through bashing attacks. Blunt, bladed and hacking weapons can be used in close combat and each have specific advantages and roles; for example, the player can perform power attacks with each weapon. Magic can be used in the form of spells, which have many different function, such as the regeneration of health or the depletion of enemy health.A bow and arrow may be utilized in long-range combat, but the bow can be used as a defensive melee weapon in close combat. The player can enter sneak mode and pickpocket, or deliver sneak attacks to unsuspecting enemies.
When exploring the game world, the player may encounter wildlife. Many creatures in the wilderness are immediately hostile towards the player.Skyrim is the first entry in The Elder Scrolls to include Dragons in the game's wilderness. Like other creatures, Dragons are generated randomly in the world and will engage in combat with NPCs, creatures and the player. Some Dragons may attack cities and towns when in their proximity. The player character can absorb the souls of Dragons in order to use powerful spells called "Dragon Shouts". Each Shout contains three words, and the strength of the Shout will vary depending on how many words have been spoken. The words to Shouts can be learned by visiting "Word Walls" in dungeons. The words to each shout are unlocked for use by spending the absorbed souls of slain Dragons.A regeneration period limits the player's use of Shouts in gameplay.
Plot
Skyrim is set 200 years after the events of Oblivion, though it is not a direct sequel. The game takes place in the land of Skyrim, amid a civil war between two warring political factions; the Stormcloaks, led by Skyrim's native Nord race, and the Imperial Legion.
The story begins with the imprisoned player being led to an Imperial execution in the town of Helgen, alongside several Stormcloak soldiers and their leader, Ulfric Stormcloak. A Dragon unexpectedly interrupts the procession, attacking and destroying the town. The player escapes and journeys to the nearby town of Riverwood, whose residents are now fearful that the Dragon could strike their town as well at any moment. The player is asked to make their way to the city of Whiterun, to request aid from the city's Jarl—the game's equivalent of a lord—against the Dragon threat. The Jarl, Balgruuf the Greater, accepts. He also directs the player to retrieve a Dragonstone, a magical artefact that shows the location of ancient Dragon burial sites.
The player returns to Whiterun with the Dragonstone, only to learn that another Dragon has appeared near the city. After slaying the Dragon with assistance from the city's guards, the player absorbs the Dragon's soul which grants them the ability to perform a magical ability called a "Thu'um", or Dragon Shout. The city's guards are astonished, and inform the player that they must be a Dragonborn, a mortal with the soul of a Dragon. After returning to the Jarl with news of the Dragon's defeat, the player is summoned to meet with the Greybeards, an order of monks who live in seclusion in their temple of High Hrothgar on the slopes of Skyrim's tallest mountain, the Throat of the World.
The Greybeards further train the player in the "Way of the Voice", teaching the player more powerful Thu'um's and instructing the player on their destiny and role of the Dragonborn. The player learns that Skyrim's civil war is the last in a sequence of prophetic events foretold by the Elder Scrolls, which also predicted the return of Alduin, the Dragon-god of destruction. Alduin is prophesied to destroy the races of Men and Mer, and consume the world. The player character is the latest "Dovahkiin", a Dragonborn, an individual with the body of a mortal and the soul of a Dragon. Dovahkiin are anointed by the gods to help fend off the threat Alduin and other Dragons pose to Skyrim and Tamriel.
The Greybeards task the player with retrieving the legendary Horn of Jurgen Windcaller. However, the player discovers the Horn has been stolen by another, who wishes to meet with the Dragonborn. The thief reveals herself as Delphine, Riverwood's innkeeper and one of the last surviving members of the Blades—an Order of bodyguards sworn to protect the Imperial Emperor. Delphine and the player witness Alduin reviving a Dragon from a burial mound and defeat the Dragon. Afterwards, Delphine helps the player infiltrate the Thalmor Embassy near the city of Solitude, the headquarters of the Aldmeri Dominion in Skyrim, to follow up on her suspicions about the Thalmor's possible involvement with the Dragon threat. While there, Delphine and the player discover the Thalmor are searching for a man named Esbern, an archivist of the Blades Order. Delphine then instructs the player to locate Esbern, known to be hiding in the sewers and ratways of the city of Riften.
The player character accompanies the Blades in search of Alduin's Wall, a prophetic engravement located in an ancient Blades fortress known as Sky Haven Temple. While the Blades set up in the temple, the player character learns that the ancient Nords used a special Thu'um against Alduin called "Dragonrend", representing mankind's comprehensive hatred for the Dragons, to cripple his ability to fly so they could engage him. To gain more information, the player meets the ancient Dragon Paarthanux, the leader of the Greybeards who was once one of Alduin's most feared generals. Paarthurnax reveals that Alduin was not truly defeated in the past, but was sent forward to an unspecified point in time by the use of an Elder Scroll, in the hopes that he would get lost. The player manages to locate the Elder Scroll within the ancient Dwemer ruin of Blackreach and uses it to peer through a window in time, learning the powerful Dragonrend Shout to combat Alduin.
Armed with the knowledge of how the ancient Nords defeated Alduin, the player battles Alduin on the summit of the Throat of the World. Overpowered by the player, Alduin flees to Sovngarde, the Nordic afterlife. The player learns that Dragonsreach, the palace of the Jarl of Whiterun, was originally built to trap and hold a Dragon. Balgruuf refuses to allow the player to utilize Dragonsreach and possibly endanger the city if the civil war between the Stormcloaks and the Imperial Legion still rages. With the help of the Greybeards, the player calls a council between General Tullius—the Imperial Legion's commander—and Ulfric Stormcloak, successfully calling for a temporary armistice while the Dragon threat exists. If the war has already ended the Jarl will eventually agree with persuasion.
The player summons and traps a Dragon named Odahviing in Dragonsreach, learning from him that Alduin has fled to Sovngarde through a portal located high in the mountains, at an ancient fort called Skuldafn. Odahviing, impressed with the player's Thu'um and ability to capture him, agrees to fly the player to Skuldafn, claiming Alduin has shown himself as weak and undeserving of leadership over the Dragons. Upon arrival at Skuldafn, the player travels to Sovngarde and meets with Ysgramor, the legendary Nord who, along with his Five Hundred Companions, drove the Elves out of Skyrim. Ysgramor informs the player that Alduin has placed a "soul snare" in Sovngarde, allowing him to gain strength by devouring the souls of deceased Nords arriving there. The player meets up with the three heroes of Nordic legend who defeated Alduin originally, and, with their help, destroys the soul snare, defeating Alduin.
If the player did not kill Paarthurnax in an earlier side quest, an alternate conclusion is given. The player returns to the summit of the Throat of the World in which Paarthurnax and the other Dragons wait. Paarthurnax explains that even if Alduin is defeated, they are in no condition to celebrate for he was once their ally and is still one of their kin. Having asserted his authority over many Dragons, Paarthurnax convinces those loyal to him to leave Tamriel.

Development
Having completed work on Oblivion in 2006, Bethesda Game Studios began work on Fallout 3, which would eventually release in 2008. It was during this time that the team began planning their next Elder Scrolls game. From the outset, they had decided to set the new entry in the land of Skyrim, incorporating Dragons into the main theme of the game.Full development begun following the release of Fallout 3 in 2008; the developers considered Skyrim a spiritual successor to both Fallout 3 and previous The Elder Scrolls games. The game was developed by a team of roughly 100 people composed of new talent as well as of the series's veterans. The production was supervised by Todd Howard, who was the director of many titles released by Bethesda Softworks.
Design
The team set the game in the province of Skyrim, designing it by hand. While similar in size to Oblivion's game world Cyrodiil, the mountainous topography of the world inflates the game space and makes it more difficult to traverse than the relatively flat Cyrodiil. In designing Skyrim's world, the team opted for a different approach to what was taken with Oblivion; art director Matt Carofano considered the more surrealistic approach of Skyrim's world design as a departure from Oblivion's generic representation of classic European fantasy lore.Howard expressed the team's desire to re-encapsulate the "wonder of discovery" of Morrowind's game world in Skyrim, as the return to the classic fantasy of Arena and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall in Oblivion meant sacrificing a world with a unique culture. As a way of creating diversity in the world, the team divided the world into nine sectors, known as holds, and attempted to make each hold feel topographically unique from another; in addition, the team wanted to reflect the socioeconomic background of the NPCs by making some of the world's locations elaborate and wealthy and others poorer and lower-tech.
Within Skyrim's universe is the use of "dragon language". The alphabet was constructed to look aesthetically Dragon-like, hence the use of claw-like markings.

The team sought to make each of the game's ten races feel unique; Howard considered that the player's choosing of a race at the beginning of the game is a more important decision than it has been in previous The Elder Scrolls games because the culture of Skyrim's world contains more racism. However, he iterated that the player's choice of race does not have major game-affecting consequences as it simply adds "flavor" in different NPCs' dispositions towards the player, and is not meant as a way of locking players out of particular quests.Efforts to making Skyrim's world feel hand-crafted extended to the team abandoning the use of generated landscapes as they had done in Oblivion. While one team member was charged with designing dungeons in Oblivion, Skyrim's 150 dungeons were designed by a small team of eight people.Skyrim features 244 quests and over 300 points of interest.
Engine
Skyrim is powered by Bethesda's own Creation Engine, a new engine created prior to Skyrim's release. After Fallout 3's release, the team devised numerous design objectives to meet for Skyrim, and as Howard described, the team "got all those done and kept going".Had the team not been able to meet their design goals with current hardware, they would have waited for the next generation and released Skyrim then, but, as Howard felt, the current technology did not hold the team back at all.The Creation Engine allows for numerous improvements in graphical fidelity over Bethesda's previous efforts. For example, the draw distance renders farther than in previous The Elder Scrolls games; Howard provided an example where the player can stare at a small object such as a fork in detail, and then look up at a mountain and run to the top of it.Dynamic lighting affords shadows to be created by any structure or item in the game world, and while Bethesda utilized SpeedTree to produce flora in previous games, the Creation Engine utilized by Skyrim allowed for greater detail than what had been allowed by SpeedTree. For example, with Bethesda's own technology, the team were able to give weight to the branches of trees which affect how trees blow in the wind; in addition, the technology affords wind to affect the flow of water in channels such as rivers and streams.Because of the large presence of snow in Skyrim's game world, the technological upgrades were applied to weather effects and allow for dynamic snow fall upon the terrain, instead of snow that was rendered as a textural effect in previous games.
The team made use of Havok's Behavior toolset for character animation, which allows for a greater fluidity between the character's movements of walking, running and sprinting, and also increases the efficiency of the third-person camera option which had been criticized in Oblivion. The toolset allows interactions between the player and NPCs to take place in real-time; in Oblivion, when the player went to interact with an NPC, time would freeze and the camera would zoom in on the NPC's face. In Skyrim, NPCs can move around and make body gestures while conversing with the player. Children are present in the game, and their presence is handled similarly as in Fallout 3 in that they cannot be harmed by the player in any way.since depictions of violence involving children in video games is a controversial and largely-debated issue.Skyrim makes use of the Radiant AI artificial intelligence system that was created for Oblivion, and it has been updated to allow NPCs to "do what they want under extra parameters".The updated system allows for greater interaction between NPCs and their environments; NPCs can perform tasks such as farming, milling and mining in the game world, and will react with each other.
Audio
The team employed Jeremy Soule to compose music for Skyrim after his work on Morrowind and Oblivion. He composed "Dragonborn", the game's main theme. "Dragonborn" was recorded with a choir of over thirty people, singing in the game world's Dragon language.Creative director Todd Howard envisioned the theme for Skyrim as the Elder Scrolls theme sung by a choir of barbarians. This became a reality when the idea was passed by Soule, who recorded the 30-man choir and layered three separate recordings to create the effect of 90 voices. The language, Draconic, was created by Bethesda's concept artist Adam Adamowicz, and he developed a 34-character runic alphabet for the game. The lexicon of Draconic was expanded as needed; as lead designer Bruce Nesmith explained, words were introduced to the lexicon "every time [the studio wanted] to say something".
As with the previous two entries in the series, the soundtrack to Skyrim is sold via Jeremy Soule's distributor DirectSong; on November 4, 2011, a physical-only release consisting of 4 audio CDs was announced, coinciding with the launch of the game. All copies preordered before December 23 will be personally autographed by Soule.Following an October 17 tweet from Pete Hines, vice president of public relations and marketing at Bethesda, stating "The OST would take 4 CDs",a 4-disc CD set release was spotted by Digital Song customers during an account display error."Day One" preorders from Amazon.de also include a 5-track promotional Skyrim soundtrack sampler.A digital version of the 4-disc CD soundtrack was released on January 31, 2013 via iTunes.
Characters
Non-Player Characters, Non-Playable Characters or NPCs is a generic term for all characters, other than the Dragonborn, who can be encountered while wandering Skyrim.

NPCs are controlled by Radiant Al, a complex system in which NPCs move about the world in a non-scripted, lifelike manner and perform daily tasks including shopping, hunting for food, going to sleep, smithing, or even going on a mission of assassination. An NPC can come in many shapes and sizes and be any playable race.

NPC souls cannot be trapped into ordinary Soul Gems; only Black Soul Gems or The Black Star can be used. Classes can still be used by NPCs, despite being unable to be picked by the Dragonborn.

There are also various unused characters which did not make it into the final game. These characters can only be found when using console commands.

Named characters
Most of the NPCs in Skyrim are named characters. These characters are all listed on different pages under their relevant name. Quest-givers, trainers, merchants, as well as most NPCs in cities and towns are named characters.

Some named characters are deemed to be Essential Characters. If these characters are attacked, they will fall to their knees and surrender when they get near zero Health. After a short time, they will rise up with full health, and will reengage the attacker until they are killed or are no longer in their zone. The following is a list pertaining to such NPCs:

Alchemists
Blacksmiths
Essential Characters
Followers
Merchants
Spell Merchants
Trainers

General characters
There are also many general NPCs in Skyrim, many of which are randomly generated. If they are killed they will become randomly generated again after a certain amount of time.

Non hostile NPCs:

Afflicted Refugee
Couriers
Farmers
Fishermen
Hold Guards
Hunters
Imperial Couriers
Imperial Soldiers
Nobles
Peddlers

Note: Falmer, Dragon Priests, and Hagravens are not listed as they do not classify as NPCs.

Details about characters
Healing
NPCs can be healed using a spell or a scroll that does restore health on a target, or cured of poison or paralysis, or in specific scenarios, be given a health potion to heal them.

Commanding characters
All of the characters in Skyrim have two different types of FormIDs that can be used in conjunction with console commands: a BaseID and a RefID.

Most console commands will accept only one of the two types of IDs: the BaseID is generally used in cases where a new copy of an object would be spawned, whereas the RefID is generally used in cases where interaction is requested for an existing object.

Character stats
The behavior of characters is determined by a variety NPC statistics

Aggression
There are four different levels of an NPCs aggression in conjunction with Faction Relationships, determines when the Actor will initiate combat:
0: Unaggressive. Will not initiate combat.
1: Aggressive. Will attack Enemies on sight.
2: Very Aggressive. Will attack Enemies and Neutrals on sight.
3: Frenzied. Will attack anyone on sight. Actors are rarely set to Frenzied by default; this is usually the result of some other spell or effect like the Frenzy spell.

Assistance
Governs whether the actor will assist their Friends and Allies in combat:
0: Helps Nobody. Will not help anyone.
1: Helps Allies. Will only help Allies.
2: Helps Friends and Allies. Will help Friends and Allies.

Confidence
Governs when the Actor will avoid or flee from threats:
0: Cowardly. Will always avoid or flee from threats. Cowardly actors NEVER engage in combat under any circumstances. Confidence can never be lower than 0.
1: Cautious. Will avoid or flee from threats unless the Actor is stronger than the threat.
2: Average. Will avoid or flee from threats if outmatched.
3: Brave. Will avoid or flee from threats only if severely outmatched.
4: Foolhardy. Will never avoid or flee from anyone.

Morality
If this Actor is the Dragonborn's Follower, and they order them to commit a crime, Morality determines whether they will comply:
0: Any Crime. The Follower will commit any crime.
1: Violence Against Enemies. The Follower will commit Property Crimes, and Violent Crimes when ordered to attack an enemy only. Rarely used.
2: Property Crime Only. The Follower will commit Property Crimes such as theft, or trespass, but never Violent Crimes. Rarely used.
3: No Crime. The Follower will refuse to commit any crime.
The Last Dragonborn/Dovah-Kiin
The Last Dragonborn or Laat Dovahkiin (Dragon Language: LAaTDOVAhKIiN Laat-Dovah-Kiin, "Last-Dragon-Born"), generally referred to as the Dragonborn (Dragon Language: DOVAhKIiN Dovah-Kiin, "Dragon-Born"), is the player's character and the protagonist of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and its expansions, Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn.

Etymology
Quote
"In their tongue he is Dovahkiin, Dragonborn."
―Esbern in the Skyrim trailer
In Dragon language, "Dovahkiin" is a combination of the words "Dovah," meaning "dragon," and "kiin," meaning "born," or "child" which is typically translated to "Dragonborn," but it can also be translated to "Dragonchild." Dovahkiin also has a second meaning: the "Dov" in "Dovah" refers to Dragonkind as a whole, while the "ah" means "hunter." Interpreted thus, the name reads "Dragonkind Hunter Born," or "Born Hunter of Dragonkind," an appropriate description of what the Dragonborn is destined to do.

Something of further interest is that dragons use the term Dovahkiin as a proper noun to address or talk about the Dragonborn and the dragon naming convention holds that names consist of three words. When called upon by the Greybeards after killing Mirmulnir, Dov-Ah-Kiin is stressed as three separate words. This could signal that the real translation of "Dov-ah-kiin" is "Born Hunter of Dragonkind," when the traditional naming convention of dragons is held.

Prophecy
Quote
"Skyrim legend tells of a hero known as the Dragonborn, a warrior with the body of a mortal and soul of a dragon, whose destiny it is to destroy the evil dragon Alduin."
―Loading Screen[src]
The appearance of the Last Dragonborn was prophesied upon Alduin's Wall, a large edifice found within Sky Haven Temple. It depicts several events that would preface the return of the Nordic god of destruction, Alduin. The prophecy itself is dire, but scholars believed that its omens had been fulfilled and that a single individual, gifted with the same powers of the Thu'um held by the dragons themselves, may rise to fight against Alduin and assure Nirn's survival. Alduin finally returned in 4E 201, during the midst of Skyrim's civil war. Raising an army of dragons from the dead, he attempted to resume his path of destruction. However, he was eventually defeated in a battle by the Last Dragonborn and three ancient Nordic heroes in Sovngarde.

Background
Quote
"Hero of the Nords I name you, Dragonborn, let none deny it."
―Galmar Stone-Fist

Much like previous Dragonborn individuals who existed throughout history, such as Reman Cyrodiil, Tiber Septim and Miraak, the Last Dragonborn has the ability to consume a slain dragon's soul and absorb its knowledge and power, allowing them to learn words of power almost instantaneously, though reportedly neither Reman nor Tiber have ever killed a dragon and absorbed its soul. It is said that the Blades have always guided, protected, and served the Dragonborn, whom they consider "The Ultimate Dragon Slayer."

At the beginning of Skyrim, 7 AM of the 17th of Last Seed 4E 201, the Dragonborn is a prisoner, who had been captured by members of the Imperial Legion. While being transported to the settlement of Helgen, the Dragonborn discovers that Ulfric Stormcloak, the leader of the Stormcloak Rebellion, is a fellow prisoner. Upon reaching Helgen, the local Imperial Captain sentences all the prisoners to death. Seconds before the Dragonborn's execution, Alduin attacks, providing a chance for escape. Regardless of race, the Dragonborn starts with both flames and healing spells, indicating that they studied the arcane arts before traveling to Skyrim.

During the events of the quest "No One Escapes Cidhna Mine," the Dragonborn can choose to remark on whether they have a family or not. When talking with Serana, the Dragonborn may comment on what type of relationship the Dragonborn had with their parents as well as hinting at their fate. Additionally, Eola may claim that they may have tasted the flesh of a dead sibling when they were young, during the quest "The Taste of Death."

When formally greeting the Last Dragonborn, the Greybeards name them "Ysmir," Dragon of the North. The same title was held by Tiber Septim, Wulfharth, and supposedly all Dragonborns before that have visited the Greybeards.

Physical appearance
Skyrim's trailers and concept art depict the Dragonborn as a male Nord with brownish blonde hair and light blue eyes. He wears a studded cuirass, an iron helmet, iron gauntlets, and iron boots. In one trailer, the Dragonborn uses a steel sword and a banded iron shield, while in a screenshot he dual wields a steel sword and a steel dagger. In Skyrim, as with all Elder Scrolls games, race, gender, appearance, and equipment are left to the player's discretion.

Trivia
The studded armor as seen in posters has the pauldron on the Dovahkiin's right shoulder, but, in-game, the pauldron is on the left shoulder.
In addition, the iron helmet as shown in posters is noticeably different as it lacks a guard around the mouth, while in-game the helmet is extended.
If a copy of the player character is spawned through the use of console commands, they will always wear a full set of iron armor.
Dialogue with Hermaeus Mora during the Dragonborn expansion suggests that the Last Dragonborn may be in Apocrypha after the events of the expansion; "If you tire of your search, read your book again to return to your mortal life. For a time. The lure of Apocrypha will call you back. It is your fate."Dialogue with the Prince also shows that the Last Dragonborn becomes his Champion after defeating Miraak: "No matter, I have found a new Dragonborn to serve me."
However, Frea advised the Last Dragonborn to not let Hermaeus Mora lure him as his servant, suggesting an ambiguous fate of the Last Dragonborn; "While you are not of the Skaal, you are Skaal-friend, and so I give you this warning: Herma-Mora forced you to serve him in order to defeat Miraak. Do not let him lure you further down that path. The All-Maker made you Dragonborn for a higher purpose. Do not forget that."
In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Making of Skyrim, Emil Pagliarulo states that the Last Dragonborn was a "criminal and accused of some crime," which would explain why the Last Dragonborn was captured.
This is however contradicted by Mark Lampert, who says that they have wiped the Dragonborn's history clean.
Legate Fasendil indicates that the Last Dragonborn originally came from Cyrodiil, but it is unclear if the Dragonborn is using the word "home" as in "their home" or "Fasendil's home."
During a dialogue with Serana about her family, Serana asks about the Dragonborn's family. The following are the available answers:
"They were good people. I miss them."
"We're very close. I can't wait to see them again."
"We didn't really get along. Best that I haven't seen them in a while."
"I never knew them. I grew up alone."
It is implied through dialogue with Thalmor Justiciars that the Last Dragonborn believes Talos is a god, as when they are asked if they believe in Talos, there is no dialogue option stating they don't believe in Talos.
Combat
Combat is one of the three major skill groups in Skyrim (Magic and Stealth being the other two). Smithing, the combat crafting skill, is used for making and improving weapons and armor. There are three directly offensive skill trees: One-handed, Two-handed, and Archery. In addition, there are two defensive skill trees: Block and Heavy Armor. The Warrior Stone's effect is to grant 20% more experience in all combat skills with one exception: Archery is affected by the Thief Stone.
Combat in Skyrim can have a wider meaning than the skills listed above: everything related to fighting, including the use of important skills from the magic and stealth categories, and virtually limitless combinations of tools and tactics can play a combat role. Along with covering the combat-related skills, this article gives a general overview of combat, and details several alternative combat systems.
Combat Overview
Combat can take place between the player and/or any number of creatures and NPCs. All participants utilize combinations of physical attacks, weapons, or magic in an attempt to kill or overcome their opponent. Combat normally begins when you or another NPC becomes detected by a hostile creature/NPC or otherwise provokes them into attacking. Drawing too close to a potential enemy, attacking a non hostile NPC and, in some situations, selecting certain dialogue options are all grounds for causing something to attack you. Anything that is hostile to you will appear as a red dot on your compass until combat with that particular hostile has ended. Combat can end in one of four ways: you are killed (which ends the game and requires you to load a previous save), all enemies that are hostile to you are killed, you move far enough away from an enemy that it ceases to attack you, or the combat is forced to end either by a magical effect (i.e. as Calm and Kyne's Peace) or a yield. You may only yield to NPCs whose disposition towards you is high enough or to a hostile guard by putting away your weapons. NPCs whose health is low will often shout "I yield!" and begin to flee, but you cannot accept their yield and the NPC will rejoin combat once they have recovered enough health (some creatures may also flee when at low health). At your choosing, many combat scenarios can be avoided entirely through stealth or magical effects like the ones mentioned above. However, parts of many quests require you to kill specific enemies, in which case combat becomes necessary.
Unarmed Combat
Unarmed combat is the use of fists or claws to attack an opponent. While all races of men and mer do the same amount of unarmed damage, Khajiits and Argonians do more unarmed damage (18 points and 6 points respectively). Since unarmed combat is not a skill, you can only increase the damage of unarmed attacks with an item that has the Fortify Unarmed Damage enchantment (which can only be obtained with the Gloves of the Pugilist), or the Fists of Steel perk. There are also specific alternative combat situations where unarmed combat is utilized and can be made stronger.
Weapons
The Weapons featured in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are very diverse. They range from swords and maces to axes, bows, and daggers.
There are dozens of different types, ranging from iron at the lowest level and Daedric weapons at the highest. They are essential tools of survival in Skyrim, and can be bought, looted, stolen, forged, or received as a reward. Weapons can be upgraded at a grindstone with the right material.

The following is a complete list of weapons in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and its add-ons.

One-handed: daggers, maces, swords, and war axes
Two-handed: battleaxes, greatswords, and war hammers
Archery: bows and arrows
One-handed Fighting Styles
One-handed governs your effectiveness when using one-handed weapons, including daggers, swords, maces, and war axes. With the addition of dual-wielding, one-handed weapons can be put in both hands in any combination. The higher your skill in One-handed, the more damage is done with one-handed weapons. The One-handed skill tree has a total of 10 perks, requiring a total of 21 perk points to fill. Each skill point grants a +0.5% bonus to the damage dealt with one-handed weapons (+2% for NPCs). This bonus stacks with the ones provided by the Armsman perk and by Smithing-related improvements.
In-game Description: The art of combat using one-handed weapons such as daggers, swords, maces, and war axes. Those trained in this skill deliver deadlier blows.

Skill Usage
Approximate weapon characteristics are given in the following table:
Weapon type Relative damage Speed Reach Stagger
Dagger -3 1.3 0.7 0
Sword +0 1 1 0.75
War Axe +1 0.9 1 0.85
Mace +2 0.8 1 1
"Speed" determines the frequency of attacks. "Reach" determines how far away an opponent can be and still be hit by the weapon. "Stagger" multiplies your base staggering chance by this amount to determine if your attack causes your opponent to stumble or flinch away from you.
Depending on the base weapon type, it may be governed by certain perks, if they are taken. Swords can potentially gain a critical damage chance, war axes a bleeding damage chance, and maces may get to ignore some armor rating. Daggers may gain a 15x Backstab multiplier, while the others can only gain 6x. Daggers are also silent, making stealthy kills more practical if facing multiple targets.
Although the Damage per Second (DPS) for daggers may exceed swords at higher tiers (ebony, Daedric, dragonbone) if tempered to Legendary quality, daggers do not benefit from Fortify One-handed enchantments, which can potentially put daggers at a considerable damage disadvantage.
The weight of the weapon should also be taken into account, since heavier weapons expend more stamina when using a power attack. Daggers will generally expend the least amount of stamina but have the lowest damage per strike and are unable to cause an opponent to stagger, while maces expend the most stamina but have the highest damage and chance to stagger.
Attacks with the primary (right) hand are 10% faster than those with the off (left) hand.

Two-handed Combat
The Two-handed skill is the skill that governs your ability to use larger weapons that require two hands to operate, such as greatswords, warhammers, and battleaxes. The higher your skill in Two-handed, the more damage is done with two-handed weapons. The Two-handed skill tree has a total of 9 perks, requiring a total of 19 perk points to fill.
In-game Description: The art of combat using two-handed weapons, such as greatswords, battle axes, and warhammers. Those trained in this skill deliver deadlier blows.
Potions
are consumable items found throughout Skyrim and the rest of Tamriel. Many potions are leveled to accommodate you.

There are two different subdivisions of potions.

Potions
help by restoring health/magicka/stamina, fortifying an ability or the effect of an ability, or otherwise benefiting you.

Poisons
on the other hand, are applied to weapons and detrimentally affect the targeted character.

Potions and Poisons can be purchased, found, or even created. All of them weigh 0.5 units.
Console Commands
Console Commands are a debugging tool available to PC players, adding a wide range of functionality to the game. On American English keyboards, the tilde key ( ~ ) will toggle the console screen, but on British English keyboards, that key is the backtick key ( ` ). The key is located below Escape ( Esc ) and just left of the 1 ( one ) key.
Using the console
Entering codes
Codes are not case sensitive; "a" is same as "A".
Codes are shown as: Code <Variable> <#>
The < and > are not entered with the code, and # is replaced by the desired quantity.
The code to add an item is listed as: Player.AddItem <ItemID> <#>
If you wanted to add 500 gold, it would be entered as:
player.additem 00000f 500
Targeting
To target an object, open the console and click the object. Its name will appear about center screen. An item targeted in the console is also called a reference.
A target may also be selected using the PRID command and the target's Reference ID.

Short Code or Prefix Required
Short code refers to a code having a short form that can be used interchangeably with the Long form.
ToggleFogOfWar is the long code form.
TFOW is the short code form.
Prefix Required refers to a code needing a prefix to work as intended.
SetHealth <#> will set the max health of the target selected by clicking or the PRID command to <#>.
Player.SetHealth <#> will set your max health to <#>.

The White Phial
The White Phial is an ancient relic in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, said to contain the first snow to fall from the Throat of the World. Any liquid dropped within the phial is instantly amplified and purified.
Acquiring the artifact
Nurelion, proprietor of The White Phial sends the Dragonborn to seek the item and bring it back to him. Nurelion spent the majority of his life searching for the phial. During the quest, the Dragonborn locates the White Phial in the Forsaken Cave, as well as a Word Wall containing a part of the dragon shout Marked for Death. After recovering the item, they discover that it is cracked, but they return it to Nurelion anyway. Upset, Nurelion only pays the Dragonborn 5 Septims for recovering the artifact, although after talking to Quintus, the Dragonborn receives a further 500 Septims.
Repairing
After the Dragonborn completes The Throat of the World quest, a courier arrives with a message from Nurelion's apprentice, Quintus, telling you to go talk to him. After that he tells you the necessary ingredients for repairing the phial.
Briar Heart
Unmelting Snow
Mammoth Tusk Powder
Reward
Recovering these ingredients, Quintus successfully reconstructs the phial. Nurelion dies shortly after. As a reward, the Dragonborn receives the phial, which contains an unlimited Potion of his or her choice, that refills itself once per day.

Additional content
A wide variety of both official and fan-created modifications are available for Skyrim, using the packaged "Creation Kit". These mods are aggregated on the Steam Workshop and Skyrim Nexus, among other sites. The mods include features such as more vibrant night sky, new lighting systems, new characters and locations, user interface updates, and more. The first official Skyrim modification was The Fall of the Space Core, Vol. 1, created by Bethesda in collaboration with Valve Corporation. It causes the Space Core – a fictional device from Valve's video game Portal 2 – to fall from the sky and land in a burnt-out house near Whiterun. The Space Core (voiced by Nolan North) acts as a non-player character, following the player around the world of Skyrim and dispensing space-related comments.

Dawnguard, the first downloadable add-on for Skyrim, revolves around a battle between the Dawnguard and Clan Volkihar. The Dawnguard, a band of vampire hunters, rely on the use of their trademark crossbow weapons in their pursuit against Clan Volkihar, a family of vampires. Early in Dawnguard's quest line, players must choose which faction they join forces with. Dawnguard adds new content to the game including weapons, magic and armor, and expands the abilities afforded to players who choose to become either a vampire or a werewolf. It also adds two new areas outside of the main land of Skyrim to explore—the Soul Cairn, a plane of the realm Oblivion, and the Forgotten Vale, a secluded glacial valley. Dawnguard released on the Xbox 360 in English-speaking territories on June 26, 2012, and in European countries in mid-July 2012.Via the digital distribution platform Steam, Dawnguard released for Windows on August 2, 2012.Performance issues on the PlayStation 3 platform hampered Dawnguard's, and subsequent content add-ons', release on it. Dawnguard eventually released on the PlayStation 3 on February 26, 2013 in North America and on February 27, 2013 in Europe.

Hearthfire, Skyrim's second add-on, allows players to build houses and adopt children. Three plots of land are added to the game world, which players can purchase. Once land is purchased, players select rooms to add on to the basic template of the house, built from raw materials like lumber and clay which can be harvested or purchased. Players may also adopt up to two children and have them live with the player's spouse in their houses.Hearthfire released for the Xbox 360 on September 4, 2012 and for Windows on October 4, 2012.It later released for PlayStation 3 on February 19, 2013 in North America and February 20, 2013 in Europe.

Dragonborn is the third and final add-on for Skyrim. It revolves around the player character's efforts to defeat Miraak, the first Dragonborn who has become corrupted and seeks to control the world. The add-on takes place on the island of Solstheim, which like Skyrim is presented as an open world. It adds new content to the game and allows players to ride on the backs of Dragons. Dragonborn released for the Xbox 360 on December 4, 2012,for Windows on February 5, 2013, and for PlayStation 3 on February 12, 2013.
The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard
Dawnguard is the first major official add-on for Skyrim. It was released on Microsoft Windows via Steam on 2 August 2012.

Dawnguard revolves around an ancient prophecy predicted by an Elder Scroll. The Dawnguard, an organisation dedicated to hunting Vampires, are reformed to attempt to stop the return of a powerful clan of Vampires named the Volkihar. The Volkihar's leader, Lord Harkon, intends to use an Elder Scroll to permanently blot out the sun. The player can choose whether to aid the Dawnguard, or join the Vampires, becoming a Vampire Lord themselves in the process.
How to become vampire lord
Step 1.Start the Dawnguard quest.Guards and innkeepers will begin telling the players about the group of vampire hunters. This will begin the quest. You will need to travel to Fort Dawnguard, located in the southeastern corner of the map, to the east of Riften.
Step 2.Start the "Awakening" quest. After speaking to the Dawnguard, you will receive this quest, sending you to Dimhollow Crypt. Once there, you will find the vampire Serana, who asks the player to escort her to her father at Castle Volkihar.
Step 3.Escort Serana home. Take Serena to Castle Volkihar, located to the west of Solitude. Return Serana to Lord Harkon and he will offer to make the player into a Vampire Lord. This is your first chance to become a Vampire Lord, but you will have two more chances later on if you decline here.
In the quest Chasing Echoes, Serana offers to turn the player into a Vampire Lord. This is because living things cannot normally enter the Soul Cairn.
After defeating Harkon completing Kindred Judgment, the final quest in the Dawnguard questline, the player can ask Serana to make her/him into a Vampire Lord.
Dawnguard - Gameplay
Introduced in Dawnguard are two unique skill trees, one for vampirism noted as "Vampire Lord" and one for lycanthropy. Players are given the choice to either join forces with the Vampires, or fight them alongside an order of Vampire hunters known as the Dawnguard. Depending on the player's choice, they will be granted access to one of two home bases, Castle Volkihar or Fort Dawnguard, respectively. New armors, perks and weapons, including a crossbow for the Dawnguard, have been introduced. Crossbows will remain loaded when running through the world and provide a quicker shot than bows. They are, however, slower to reload. Crossbows fall under the Archery perk tree and all points assigned to Archery will also apply to crossbows. Crossbow bolts can also be crafted with enchantments to create bolts with additional magical damage.

Additionally, in the case of the Vampires, a transformation into a "Vampire Lord" is available, working in a similar way to the existing Werewolf transformation, with the exception that it may be used repeatedly, rather than once a day. The Vampire Lord has a new skill tree to level up, as well as a separate tree implemented for Werewolves, with both leveling up individually from the regular skill trees. The Vampire Lord skill tree contains eleven perks and the Werewolf skill tree contains eight perks. Ten new XBOX 360 Achievements can be earned after installing the Dawnguard add-on as well as eighteen new loading screens and several new world interactions.

New locations are featured in Dawnguard, including the player character journeying through a rift into a realm of Oblivion called Soul Cairn. A "face sculptor" character is introduced in The Ragged Flagon in Riften, allowing players to change the facial appearance of their character at will. "Legendary" Dragons are also present in Dawnguard, appearing randomly throughout the environment, and can be slain by the player character and absorbed like any other Dragon (awarding an achievement). Three new Dragon Shouts (Drain Vitality, Soul Tear, and Summon Durnehviir) have also been included, exclusive to Dawnguard.
Dawnguard - Plot
The player character may begin the expansion questlines in a number of ways. Town guards can be overheard discussing the return of the Dawnguard, or the player character may be approached directly by an Orcish Dawnguard member named Durak and asked to join the order to combat the growing threat of vampires within Skyrim. Regardless of how it is initiated, the player character travels to Fort Dawnguard, accessible through Dayspring Canyon, located near Riften. They meet with the Dawnguard commander, Isran, who reiterates the renewed strength and threat of the Vampires, citing their destruction of the headquarters of the Vigilants of Stendarr as reason to reform the Dawnguard and eradicate the Vampires. The player character is given a crossbow and asked to travel to a ruin the Vampires are known to be INVESTIGATING. Upon arrival, the player discovers a Vampire named Serana (voiced by Laura Bailey), trapped inside a statue. She is in possession of an Elder Scroll, and informs the player that her family live in a dwelling off the coast of Skyrim, near Solitude, called Castle Volkihar. She asks the player character to escort her safely back to her home. When she has been returned home, her father, the Vampire Lord Harkon, offers the player the chance to become a Vampire Lord out of apparent gratitude for his daughter's safety, or the chance to leave Castle Volkihar safely and return to the Dawnguard. This choice begins the main storyline of Dawnguard.

Summary
Journey off the coast of Morrowind, to the island of Solstheim.
Encounter new towns, dungeons, and quests, as you traverse the ash wastes and glacial valleys of this new land. Become more powerful with shouts that bend the will of your enemies and even tame dragons. Your fate, and the fate of Solstheim, hangs in the balance as you face off against your deadliest adversary – the first Dragonborn.

Solstheim
Dragonborn takes place on the island of Solstheim, located north east of Skyrim. The geography of the island bears similar traits to both Vvardenfell and Skyrim and ranges from ash wastes to glacial valleys.

The north is dominated by the arctic climate similar to that found in Winterhold Hold, while the south features the jagged landscape reminiscent of the Dunmer homeland.

Dunmer migration
Following the eruption of Red Mountain in 4E 5, thousands of Dunmer were forced to flee Morrowind. Many crossed over the border into Skyrim seeking refuge, and whilst they were accommodated, the Nords graciously offered them the island of Solstheim as their new home.

Locations
The mining town of Raven Rock, located on the southern coast, is a far cry from its former days. After the mass Dunmer migration it has taken on a heavy Dunmer influence in its architecture and culture. House Redoran is an established presence as seen by their banners adorning the walls outside the settlement.

To the north the Skaal Village, Thirsk Mead Hall and the ruins of Castle Karstaag can be found in the icy tundras.

First Dragonborn
Miraak
The primary antagonist in Dragonborn is Miraak, the mysterious former Dragon Priest who is revealed to be the first individual gifted with the dragon blood.

He ruled over Solstheim thousands of years ago at the behest of Dragons, much like his counterparts in Skyrim, however at some point this changed and he rebelled against the winged overlords.

Apocrypha
A mysterious tome within Apocrypha

In addition to the island of Solstheim, Dragonborn also involves venturing into the plane of Oblivion known as Apocrypha, domain of the Daedric Prince of forbidden knowledge, Hermaeus Mora. The realm appears as a large citadel-type building with twisted columns and is home to dangerous creatures, such as Seekers and Lurkers.

During the course of the add-on, new abilities and powers can be learnt in the realm from mysterious Black Books.

Narration
He was once one of them, the Dragon Priest.
He ruled here in their name, ruled over Solstheim.
But he did not serve the Dragons, he devoured them.
And like them, he seeks to return.
You didn't think that you were the only one?
He was the first.
Dragonborn!

The Elder Scrolls V: Hearthfire
The Elder Scrolls V: Hearthfire is the second official add-on for the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls series, Skyrim.

Released for the Windows on October 4, 2012. Hearthfire focuses around purchasing land and designing, building and maintaining a homestead. The option to hire stewards, carriage drivers and a personal bard are also available. With five pre-built purchasable houses already present in Skyrim, it's now possible to own property in every hold, except Winterhold.

In addition, an adoption mechanic has been introduced that allows the Dragonborn to adopt children and raise them in the newly built home, provided there is room for them. Previously bought homes can be altered to have a children's bedroom fitted into them.

With this official add-on to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you can purchase land and build your own home from the ground up - from a simple one-room cottage to a sprawling compound complete with an armory, alchemy laboratory, stable, garden, and more. Use all-new tools like the drafting table and carpenter's workbench to transform quarried stone, clay, and sawn logs into structures and furnishings. Even transform your house into a home by adopting children

Homestead
The first step to building a homestead is to purchase one of three plots of land available and obtain a title deed from the local Jarl or steward. Multiple plots can be purchased, and a house can be built on each.

The locations for building a homestead are:

Windstad Manor, located near the salt marshes of Hjaalmarch.
Lakeview Manor, located in the dense forests of Falkreath.
Heljarchen Hall, located in the snowy tundras of The Pale.
After a plot has been purchased, the Drafting Table is used to plan any structures to be added, and the Carpenter's Workbench is then used for the actual building of the house.

The building itself is typically composed of several housebuilding materials, including Quarried Stone, Clay and Sawn Logs, that when combined make up the structure of the house.

Furnishings
Hearthfiretrophyroom
A trophy room with several taxidermied creatures.

Once the main building or a wing has been constructed, an interior workbench can be used to furnish each room.

Furnishings can be either bought directly from a steward or crafted using a wide variety of items. Furnishings vary for each type of building addition and include:

Armor Mannequins
Divine Shrines
Alchemy Lab
Arcane Enchanter
Weapon Racks
Display Cases
Smithing stations
Taxidermied or mounted creatures.
Most regular furnishings found in homes.
Servants
Several types of servant can be hired to perform different tasks around the house:

A Steward can be hired to buy raw materials for building the home and equip it with furnishings. Followers can be turned into a steward. Any housecarl from the various holds can be hired as the Steward. Stewards can be used to purchase Bards, carriage drivers, cows, chickens, and horses.
A carriage driver to provide transportation.
A personal Bard.
Family life
Once the house is complete, the option to move in with a spouse or adopt a child is available. Additional options will be present for any adopted children, such as giving gifts, playing games or instructing them to do their chores. The option to allow them to keep pets is also included. Children will ask to keep a dog if one shows him or her the dog, setting the dog's home to the Dragonborn's.

Occasionally the home may become subject to skeever infestations, giant attacks, marauding bandits, kidnappers, wolves, Draugr or armed bandits that must be slain.

Kate, you need the dlc dawngaurd i think you can talk to gaurds in whiterun, then follow the questline for it. It will allow you to abandon dawngaurd (group, not dlc) and become a vampire.
