[MOD] [EN] -ReWork- Menus, UI and Font enhancements [NEW UPDATES AND ADD-ONS!]

The -ReWork- mod for Chrono Trigger (compatible with latest updates for the Steam version), was made in order to enhance the user experience by changing the menu layout, the texts font, character portraits, icons, fix some of the UI problems related to the bilinear scaling, replace some of the filtered overworld sprites and ending assets that were still used in the game despite the selected settings... and much more!

Chrono Trigger -ReWork- Mod

UPDATE: The -ReWork- Mod works now with full support for the wide-screen features!! Check out the new version and the new add-ons implemented with this new release!

The -ReWork- mod for Chrono Trigger (compatible with latest updates for the Steam version), was made in order to enhance the user experience by changing the menu layout, the texts font, character portraits, icons, fix some of the UI problems related to the bilinear scaling, replace some of the filtered overworld sprites and ending assets that were still used in the game despite the selected settings... and much more!

Since the latest update that came on August 7th 2018, the game remained abandoned by Square Enix, and though they did a good work with all the content added to the patches, the game was still lacking a better support.

With the updates, it also came a new menu layout made for keyboard and gamepad, with a new text style using a font from the Nintendo DS version of the game, that still looked ugly, and also was critized by the users because it wasn't similar to the SNES font or because a pixel font didn't work well for high resolution screens.

Most of the files were easily accessible thanks to the tools made by RiverNixx, but some of them, like the font, remained encrypted on a new kind of file that was very difficult to extract and edit. Fortunatelly, another user called Enfyve came to our help, and opened the possibility to replace the font.

-ReWork- Mod brings other fixes as well!

The game still carries some of the assets with the upscaling filter of the original release, such as part of the overworld maps, the Epoch sprites, and even the ending cuscenes.

All of those filtered assets have been replaced with this mod, too, in order to show the original source files from the SNES/DS game.

The Epoch now shows the original SNES/DS sprite instead of the upscaled one



The sprites and assets from the different endings are now using the original SNES/DS files too

Compatibility with other mods

COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER MODS IS NOT ASSURED.

Please, keep in mind that this mod could overwrite any other mods installed with CT Explore before.

If you find that kind of problem, you'll have to manually find which files would you like to mantain from previous mods, and clear the replacements from the -ReWork- Mod manually with CT Explore.

Before the installation begins...

This mod makes use of RiverNyxx's CT Explore tool, which makes possible to patch the resources.bin file that contains the main assets of Chrono Trigger.

You'll need to download the tool to apply the patch with the -ReWork- Mod.

It is portable and doesn't need installation. Just drag and drop the contents of the ZIP file in any folder you want.

MORE ADD-ONS ON THE WAY!

Using CT Explore to install the -ReWork- Mod

Once you downloaded the CT Explore tool and the Chrono Trigger -ReWork- Mod, you'll be able to continue with this installation guide.

1. First step is to open the CT Explore. Go to the folder you extracted it, open as administrator the executable file, by the name of CTExplore.exe, and the tool will open.
   
   
2. Go to the File tab and select "Open Archive", like in this picture below.
   
   
   
3. Locate the resources.bin file inside the game installation folder, that usually is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Chrono Trigger. Then, select it and click in "Open".
   
   
   
4. Once the tool finishes to load the assets from that file, go now to the Patch tab, and select the "Open Patch" option.
   
   
   
5. Locate the place where you saved the patch file, called ChronoTrigger_ReWork_v101.ctp, then select it and click in "Open".
   
   
   
6. When the tool asks this, select "Yes" or "No" to continue with the installation. *NOTE: If you applied another patch before -ReWork-, then select the "No" option.
   
   
   
7. Once the tool loads and replaces the files with the patched ones, they will appear in orange. After that, go to the File tab, and select "Save Archive".
   
   
   
8. After the tool finishes to save the progress, you'll be able to close it.
   
   
9. Congratulations! Your game is now patched with the -ReWork- Mod, and you'll able to go back at playing it!

While this mod will not fix other issues this version has, it will at least make it more playable than before with a new simple design, and a new font that will have a better look for this "HDification".

Yes. Personnally I use the combo Winpinator/Warpinator, very easy and convenient.
But here, I just use the transfer fonction of the steam deck for installing the games. The Deck, when I asked for install, just copied from my pc to the deck instead of downloading. Very convenient in general, and particulary in this case!

Uploading and download it was just an option, connecting a Steam Deck directly to a Windows PC is not easy unless you know the programs to do it. I, personally, upload my modded files from the PC to a cloud service, and then download the files in my Steam Deck, just to replace then in the installation folder of the game. At least, it is faster for me.

It was even simplier: when installing the game on the Steam Deck, it just copy the files from the PC instead of downloading it. And that was it!

Best way for installing this on Steam Deck is to install it previously on a Windows PC, and then upload your modded "resources.bin" and download it on your Deck to replace it.
