[DISABLE FOR NOW]Viking Fix - Randomised Northman Adventurer Targets & Adds Retargeting Cooldowns

Description
Disable for now. Paradox have reworked the Viking Adventurer event to eliminate most of the retargetting problems. I may revist this mod and Vikings in the future.

Original description follows

Viking Fix
Rewrites the Viking Adventurer event so the target region selected is randomised, adds a cooldown so the same region is not selected by the event twice in row, and adds a cooldown for characters who defeat Northman and Varangian adventurers so they can not be immediate retargets of other Varangian adventurers.

Stops the Viking AI from becoming fixated on a region and cycle relaunching invasions on the same target over and over again. Your Vikings will become more dynamic and less foolhardy. Northman Adventurers will no longer become fixated on a region or get stuck on a strong player. Boring cycle wars relaunching every five years are no more as your Vikings learn to seek out greener pastures on defeat before they retry breaking the tough nuts of the North Sea and Russian plains.

The Problem in Vanilla
The Viking Adventurer event in vanilla selects targets by progressing down a region list in order. If a region proves difficult to the AI, like confronting a strong player, the targeting will pause its progression and only fire on that region, over and over again, cycle launching wars on the same target, ignoring every other possible conquest prospect in its region list. This leads to boring predictable gameplay that is implausible and unfun.

The fix is to rewrite the region selection in the event so the target is randomised, and adding cooldowns to a region when it is selected as a target so that region can not be reselected the next time the event fires, forcing the AI to look to fresh fields after an invasion fails. The cooldown is also shared with the Varangian Adventurer casus belli so that the cooldown for defeating a Scandinavian Adventurer invasion also affects Varangian Adventurer invasions.

How long are the cooldowns?
The cooldowns are based on the Viking Adventurer game rule setting chosen at the beginning of the playthrough. The default setting is 5 years. Cooldowns are double the adventure game rule duration, minus one year; on the default setting the truce lasts 9 years. This means the AI will skip retargeting the same region the next time the event fires in 5 years, but then allowing an adventurer war to potentially be redeclared the second time the event fires 10 years after the first.

No, disable it for now. Paradox reworked the event to correct the most egregious AI viking retargeting behavior. Looking at the new vanilla code I still see some potential flaws in how they did it compared to what this mod's fix was, but whether those flaws are actualised in gameplay requires playing the game a lot and seeing how the world evolves during the early viking era, which I'm not doing at the moment. Before it was easy to see the flaws in the code and why it was producing viking retargeting wars, and fairly easy to correct it with this mod. Now any issues are more subtle (and perhaps chimerical) and would require a lot of game play to compare the new vanilla with a rewritten mod, and to compare different ways it could be rewritten for their actual in-game effects.

If I start playing the game again I'll keep an eye on viking behavior and may revisit this mod.

@Mahesh
Raiding truces and cooldowns are governed by a different mechanism to this adventurer event, but they can be modded. When you defeat a raiding army you force a de facto truce with the raiders that stops them from raiding again, so if you are very good at squashing raiding armies as they appear on your coast you will quickly accumulate truces with the main culprits.

Also disable this mod for now. Paradox have overhauled the event and mechanisms behind it, covering most but not all of what this mod does. It will take some time to redo the mod and decide on how best to integrate the new vanilla changes.

I have been playing as Irish and I can quickly form the kingdom of Ireland and I get no Viking raids. I wish that Vikings also would raid kingdom too. I feel lonely without my viking raiders :steamsad:
