About My Time at Sandrock
My Time at Sandrock is the sequel to My Time at Portia.

If you have played My Time at Portia (MTaP), My Time at Sandrock will be very familiar. The mechanics are nearly the same and you decide how you play the game. You can be very efficient, you can take your time, you can focus one or only a few of the activities in the game.

If you are a fan of games like Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley, you will probably enjoy Sandrock very much.

The premise of the game is that you are a Builder who has arrived in the town of Sandrock in the Eufaula Desert with the goal of improving the town through crafting of items and building relationships with the inhabitants.

The game includes:
  • An extensive main quest
  • A variety of quests
  • Gathering resources
  • Dungeon Diving
  • Completing Comissions of items for experience and gold
  • Leveling up
  • Fighting
  • Relationships
  • Farming
  • Housing
  • Multiplayer mode (testing begins at some point during Early Access)

Before You Begin
The most important aspect of this game is planning - how will you spend each day?

You can acquire one commission each day. As you progress in gaining Workshop Reputation, the number of Commissions you can receive increases. At Two Stars, you can pick up two Commissions.

You can complete multiple Commissions in a single day. However, you must complete the current Commission before picking up another. If you get a Commission but cannot complete it on the same day, but can have it finished by the next day, once you have turned it in, you can get a new Commission on the day you turn in the first Commission.

There is no limit on the number of Quests that you can pick up each day and you can complete as many as you like during the day.

Commissions and Quests have a time limit for completion - anywhere from two to seven days. Each Commission/Quest has multiple rewards:
  • Experience
  • Gols
  • Workshop Reputation
  • Relationship Reputation

The items required for the Commissions and Quests can be anything from resources crafted at your Worktable, Machines, or the Assembly Station. The rewards are higher for the more complex requests. The Commisions only require creating a single or multiples of one item, such as one Furnace or 15 Thick Rope. Quests can require multiple items, such as Wooden Sticks and Copper Bars, and multiples of each item.

All of these items require various kinds of resources - wood, stone, aniimal parts, ore, etc. The resources also come from machines - Copper Screws, Marble Slabs, etc., - and may require processing across several machines, such as Copper Bars from the Furnace, Wooden Boards from the Processor, Copper Screws from the Grinder, and Wooden Sticks from the Workshop.

My Routine
I have a general routine that I follow each day. The amount of time spent on each task varies based on a variety of factors. I may not always do the list in order - sometimes I will need to visit a place at a certain time or there may be Quests available in addition to Commissions.

Wake up
Check machines for completed resources:
  • Crafted Items
  • Fuel
  • Water
  • Food
Check the mail
Set any events in the Calendar
Pick up the Commission at the Commerce Guild
Pick up any quests from Residents
Grab "free" items found around town
Check Newspaper and place new ad if necessary
Queue up new Research via Data Discs at Qi
Turn in Data Discs to Qi
Begin the Comission/Quest
  • Check Inventory for items already in possession
  • Fill the machines with fuel/water
  • Queue up resources on the machines
  • Acquire resources for the Commision/Quest - usually mining, gathering wood, or killing animals
  • Eat at Blue Moon Saloon and/or sit on furniture to restore Stamina
  • Use the new Stamina to gather more resources
  • Craft items requested
  • Turn in Commission/Quest

If you are interested in building relationships with the Villagers, you can visit them at most any point during the day. I often will visit the Villagers as I go through town to speak them each day and give gifts.

As you go through town, you will see lootable items on the ground. They can look like a piece of paper, a small bag, a piece of jerky, etc., Looting these items does not use Stamina but it does grant experience. The items can be sold - most require having multiples of each to sell, i.e., five Ruined Paper. The gols received are usually not very much but it is worthwhile to do as you run around.

Inventory Management
Inventory management is the most important aspect of the My Time games. Sandrock has expanded on Portia's backpack system by allowing many more slots. It also includes several of the Chest customization options, including chest renaming and sorting items into the chests directly.

Crafting
When crafting items or using the Assembly Station, you do not need to have the ingredients in your inventory. The game will automatically pull those ingredients into the Worktable and place the crafted item in your inventory. When a diagram is in place on the Assembly Station, right clicking the mouse will bring up the option menu for selecting the items and their qualities.

Backpack
Backpack slots are purchased through the Inventory menu. Click the + button to purchase. There are multiple pages in the backpack, click the blue arrow to the right of the backpack slots to move to the next page.
Starter size: XX
Slots 41-50: 20g each
Slots 51-60: 50g each
Slots 61-70: 100g each
Slots 71-80: 150g each
Slots 81-90: 200g each

Storage Chests

I strongly suggest that you rename all of your storage chests based on their content. Click the edit button next to the name of the chest in the top left of the menu.

Sorting crafted resources by the material used to make them keeps finding items easier. For example, a chest named Ore and Bars would contain Copper Ore, Copper Bars, Stone and Gems.
This will enable you to find items more quickly.

You only need to place one chest outside your home. Every chest is accessible regardless of where it is located.

When picking up storage chests, all contents will transfer into your inventory. Items that do not fit will gather on the ground. As backpack space becomes available, those items will be picked up when you approach them. You cannot select which order you pick the items up so keep this in mind when crafting.

When crafting new chests while having a full inventory, you can quickly clear space by topping off the fuel on all machines, queue commonly used items, and cancel and reorder the Recycler queue to maximum. This may save you from having to abandon items.

Item Context Menu
The context menu (press E when hovering over an item) allows:
Split - split items into stacks based on quantity
Mark as Junk - mark item for auto selling at stores
Mark as Favorite - mark item for warning before selling
Abandon - drop
Cancel Marks - removes Junk or Favorite marks

Stamina
What you are able to do each day is based on the amount of Stamina you have available. This includes mining, gathering, kicking, and fighting.

Increasing Stamina
There are several methods to increase Stamina:
  • Leveling up
  • Wearing certain equipment
  • Placing Stamina furniture in your house

Restoring Stamina
Eating Food
  • Eat once per day at the Blue Moon Saloon
  • Craft food
  • Purchase "food to go" at Blue Moon Saloon and By the Stairs

At the Blue Moon Saloon, you can spend gols to eat a variety of dishes. The price of the dish and the amount of Stamina it restores varies. The Saloon offers a "Special" each day consisting of two dishes. You can purchase a total of 11 items. Make sure you use enough Stamina before buying food so that no Stamina points are "lost" because you are attempting to restore more than your maximum.

Furniture
Sitting on furniture restores Stamina. The amount of Stamina restored varies on the type of furniture. More comfortable furniture restores more Stamina. Furniture you can sit on can be found around town, purchased, or crafted and placed in your home. When sitting on furniture, I recommend increasing the game speed and then lowering it to normal when finished.

Miscellaneous Tips
Geeglers in The Breach
When first visiting the Breach, there is no stamina loss for gathering in the last area where you fight the main boss. Make sure to break up treasure chests too!

I am supposed to break a large rock with a drill. I did it with a pick ax. But the quest keeps saying I have to move the rock with a drill. The rock i no longer there. What can I do to fix this?

Tip thats worth adding: As you only need one chest to access all your storage, you can save workshop space by putting all your storage into your house, and keep one 'access chest' in the yard beside your work area.

Hi! I've built the coop, hutch, and barn, have them full of animals, and always feed them. They offer several food choices to fill the trough with, including chestnuts. However no animals like to eat chestnuts, so they just sit in the trough. There is no way I've found of removing chestnuts, so I've essentially lowered the max limit I can put in my troughs, because they are clogged with chestnuts I can't remove.

Any ideas?

{When picking up storage chests, all contents will transfer into your inventory.}

I don't know if the devs changed this, or if it is a beneficial bug, but they do not seem to drop inventory when I pick them up to move them. If it was changed that's awesome, if it is a bug then awesome. Figured I'd point this out regardless in case anyone wants to put some research into this.

@Shawnmars86 No problem! It always takes a few tries to get the rhythm of a game. I am on my 40th or so save but I started in the beta last year and have had to restart with the major version upgrades. Enjoy building!
