Intro
Welcome.. to the possible solution of your problems.
Since there is a real lack of basic info regarding FPS-settings for modern Ubisoft games and most guides just address specific issues (besides being outdated), I made this Guide in hopes of saving the forums many threads about "new system still performs poorly" in games from 2017-2019 ^^

Goal of this Guide:
- rough Overview regarding Hardware-Requirements
- Tweaks/Settings to get stable 60fps
- links to other Guides that focus on special issues

ingame gfx.. (->click to enlarge!)

System Requirements - RECOMMENDED: Win7/8/10 (64bit) - 4core with HT - 8GB RAM - gtx970 / rx570* (4GB Vram)
  • *rx570 @ custom (High/VeryHigh combined)
    1080p: 48 fps
    900p: 55 fps
    720p: 65 fps
*stable fps in native Preset with ALL features enabled

1080p -baseline- Radeon RX 570 (= gtx1650)
45fps - veryHigh / 50fps - High ..-> ULTRA should be avoided unless you enjoy 30-40fps

ULTRA -baseline- RX 5600XT (= rtx2060)
65-70fps @1080p / 50-53fps @1440p / 30-33fps @4K
Overview - GFX card requirements
Now the big question: "What specs can your graphics card run smoothly ?"
This game has very similar Specs to Assassin´s Creed titles.. also UBIsoft games
-> barely any card runs those above 40fps in 4K ..lol
Let´s see.. AC:Origins (2017) / AC:Odyssey (2018) / AC:Valhalla (2020)

1080p:
gtx1070/1660super______ 65 / 45 / 40 fps
rtx2080super/rtx3060ti___ 108 / 76 / 68 fps

1440p:
gtx1070/1660super______ 50 / 35 / 33 fps
rtx2080super/rtx3060ti___ 81 / 56 / 55 fps

4K:
gtx1070/1660super______ 30 / 23 / 21 fps
rtx2080super/rtx3060ti___ 48 / 36 / 34 fps
rtx3070_(8GB)_________ 60 / 45 / 40 fps
rtx3080_(10GB)________ 78 / 60 / 51 fps
rtx3090_(24GB)________ 88 / 69 / 54 fps

*stable fps in native ULTRA-Preset

Btw, GR:Wildlands is typically 10% above to AC:Origins in first row.. also the rtx2070 would be in between. Like it or not... even modern High-End-cards struggle ;(
For reference (and to verify my numbers) the Ubisoft Specs for Assassin´s Creed: Valhalla
newer AMD cards
Newer AMD cards perform much better in Wildlands !!
Clear differences now between 5xxx and new 6xxx series (@1080p):
__model__
TDP
Vram
FPS (avg. "native")
Nvidia equivalent (generally)
5600xt
150W
6GB
74
rtx2060 / rtx3050ti
5700xt
225W
8GB
74
rtx2070 / rtx3060

6600xt
160W
8GB
82
below rtx3060ti
6700xt
230W
12GB
100
below rtx3070
6800xt
300W
16GB
143
rtx3080
6900xt
300W
16GB
151
rtx3080ti / rtx3090

-> @1440p is roughly 15% lower

Note: rtx3090 is generally on par with 6900xt (same for rtx3080 vs 6800xt), BUT in GR:Wildlands and AC:Origins both AMD XT-cards are competing with RTX 3070 only !!
(Unless you want to run eyecandy @144hz you´re good with AMD.. 165hz screams rtx3080!)

General Settings (ingame)
This game (as most modern AAA-titles) benefits a lot from fast SSD/NVMe and good Multicore.. especially when 20-30 NPCs fight each other with you in the middle ;)
Also smooth gaming in Coop, If Host has decent Rig.. otherwise stuttering, temporary slideshow, etc..

If you want to tweak your FPS.. use the common procedures:
1. Enable FPS counter in Steam or Uplay (UbisoftConnect)
2. High Preset... shadows medium.. -> see what you get
3. If it works -> VeryHigh.. otherwise run -> Medium
4. work your way up from wherever you´re now

note:
Draw Distance is critical.. same for Details. Don´t max it, unless you have a real HighEnd-system.
Even those might run into issues once you enter big fights and use Vehicles

Common SOLUTION for 1440p / 4K ..Upscaling !!
60fps vs ULTRA ??
Not sure where to set priority !? Let me say this..
1. generally, stable 60fps should be your goal for smooth gaming ..60fps High > 45fps ULTRA
2. if 60fps is out of reach, 50fps can be a solution.. but it depends on your gfx-card and monitor
3. the same accounts for Freesync/Gsync -feature @45-60fps

note: according to my testings.. 1080p @50fps High+ is very close to @60fps on stronger cards like gtx1660super / rtx2060, and most likely the go-to option on notebooks and older hardware without much loss.

CPU -influence & Scaling
Note: It´s not obvious, but Testing revealed that Wildlands Benchmark measures your performance across all CPU-threads !!

That means most modern CPUs with HT (HyperThreading) will peak at 50%, as that´s where each thread can use the full performance of a physical CPU-core without any sharing to additional threads.
-> It´s really important that your CPU is generally below 50% (~25-40% unless it´s a big fight)
Only exception are Non-HT CPUs (eg: core-i 7400,8400,9400 ..ryzen-3 1200,2200,3200)

1. Benchmark
If the ingame-Benchmark has your CPU ~45%+ you can assume that any bigger fight creates fps-drops ..because that Benchmark is far from the worst Wildlands can press, though the min_fps and min_cpu are a good indicator
-> How severe these drops are depends on your Resolution and Details.. (eg: VeryHigh /Ultra scaled can stutter your game..)

2. Scaling
Note: Wildlands shows the scaling-factor, not the result !!
Process
gfx- Factor
Description
Effect
Down-Scaling
(Super-Sampling)
1.2 or higher
increases CPU overhead
-fps / +details
- STANDARD -
NO-Scaling
1.0
no CPU overhead
native Resolution
Up-Scaling
0.8 or lower
reduces CPU overhead
+fps / -details

-> My advice is NO Scaling (factor =1.0) unless you really need that push to get 4K running

3. Ultra-Widescreen (21:9 /32:9)
32:9 is not supported, 21:9 works with adjusted FOV Even the newer Breakpoint lacks full 32:9 support (like many other games)

💢 ULTRA+ @1080p (+1440p)
Ever dreamt of 4K-Feeling on your 1080p monitor ? Pimp my WILDLANDS !? ^_^

Seriously?
Yes, technically it´s possible with strong modern cards like rtx2070+ / rtx3060+
Btw, new consoles (PS5 /Xbox X) are on par with rtx2070 and rx5700XT.

How does it work?
We use Super-Sampling (explained above) to render the game in higher Resolution, then it gets downscaled and by adjusting Sharpening, we end up with "improved ULTRA"

Better than ULTRA ??
Yes. The improvement is quite remarkable on midrange, where small objects (leaves, fences, etc) look grainy by default.

I want to point out that this is most influential on a relatively big monitor.. below 100ppi !!

Pixel-per-Inch Ratio (ppi) regarding 24"-40" monitors
Resolution
great
good
OK
pixelated
1080p
(22″ - 102 PPI)
24″ - 92 PPI
27″ - 82 PPI
1440p
27″ - 108 PPI
32″ - 92 PPI
4K
32″ -138 PPI
40″ -108 PPI

As you can see, it even makes sense on a bigger 1440p monitor ^^

PRO
CON
  • more eyecandy
  • crispy details
  • gfx card requires more energy
  • louder cooling fans
  • only suggested for 60fps Setup
  • not suggested for Laptops because:
    1. extra-heat
    2. 15.6" already sit @ 140-290ppi

Wildlands (2017) vs Breakpoint (2019)
Those wondering how big the "difference" between Wildlands and Breakpoint is:
-> compare AC:Origins with AC:Valhalla ^^

That means, you can use this Guide to get a good idea of your Breakpoint-Performance
After all, - Wildlands is similar to AC:Origins (~ 5-8% of Origins-fps) - Breakpoint is similar to AC:Valhalla.. ofc, it´s UBIsoft and the same game engine.. only Valhalla has full DX12 support, while Breakpoint is basically DX11 and got it after Release via Update 2020 (therefore not necessarily better than DX11)

Example for older Gfx-cards (1080p @High/VeryHigh) :
Gfx-card
(recommended)
Wildlands (DX11)
@High+
Breakpoint (DX11)
@Medium plus High+ settings
Breakpoint (Vulkan BETA -12/2021)
@Medium plus Medium settings
rx570
48fps
38fps
50-60fps
gtx1050ti
33fps
31fps
40-45fps

Ofc there are people that cheat themselves to get 55fps.. by modified Low/Medium Setting with crap like AF:2, Scaling, etc.. whereas Medium/High @30-40fps is way better in Breakpoint

Note: In Breakpoint 4GB-Vram limits textures to MEDIUM, while 6GB-Vram means HIGH..
--Update (12/2021): when testing Breakpoint again last week via "Vulkan (Beta)" FPS are much better now and finally it´s mostly stable (-> rx570 ~55fps @Medium), which can´t be said about UBIsoft servers as Breakpoint is ONLINE-only - DCs every few hours is pretty normal ;((

🚧 Tweaks + Fixes
Some common problems can´t be solved INGAME, so check..

Nvidia Control Panel / Radeon Software:
- 60fps "Vsync-on" setup usually requires no changes
- if you play above 60fps via Gsync(Nvidia) / Freesync(AMD)
- use recent gfx-drivers (ideally not older than 1 year)
- issues with latest drivers: use Driver-Rollback
- try not to use Beta-drivers(!)

Windows 10:
- borderless Window works better than Fullscreen (ResolutionScaling 1.0)
- make sure Process-priority is high
- Antivirus and Restrictions can also hamper your experience
- Ports used by Wildlands: full article [www.ubisoft.com]
  • TCP: 14000
  • UDP: 3074 - 3083, 6000, 6180, 7000

Hardware (CPU)
Minimum Requirement: Intel Core i5-2400S --> 4Core CPU !!
That means modern 4core/4threads Desktop CPUs run Wildlands, but it´s just enough..
-> you will still experience lag @HIGH+ settings in any heavy combat scenario with 20+ NPCs

Recommended Requirement: Intel Core i7- 3770 --> 4Core CPU with 8Threads
More common alternative i5-4570 (4c/4t ,multicore performs on par with 6 Threads of i7-3770), so this is really the baseline for Recommended in WILDLANDS
-> Gen.8/9 i5-8400+ /9400+ (6c/6t) surpasses the older i7 and is perfect for Wildlands

Warning for mobile devices (most Notebooks/Tablets below 20W TDP):
  • Gen.8/9 (2017-19) Celeron/Pentium N mobile CPUs can barely run Wildlands, IF you tweak around LOW settings @900p (make sure you use active cooling fan!)
  • Gen.8+ Core i3 mobile isn´t much better - moderate performance, nothing fancy
Why no AMD issues?
..because even Ryzen 1200 (4c/4t ,Gen.1 from 2017) sits between i5-4570 and i7-3770

Hardware (VRAM)
@1080p VeryHigh : ~2.7GB VRAM
-> ULTRA Textures alone adds 1-1,7 GB VRAM.. Full ULTRA is 4.5GB VRAM (..which exceeds older cards´ capacity)

Example to counter FPS-Drops:
Let´s say your average stable fps in full_VeryHigh (without the 4 Ultra options) sits ~65.. then looking to the empty sky will get you 70-80fps, while Vehicles, NPCs, etc will drop it to 60fps. Now in fights ~55fps is quite normal.
-> As a result, you should reduce your fps-Limit to 55fps ..or reduce settings

(Nvidia Turing with ANSEL @Ultra)
🚧 Nvidia drivers (stable)
Note: UBISOFT products like drivers from that time, when the game received regular Updates.
Many newer drivers cause frequent issues for months until a problem gets fixed.
-> Just use a stable Nvidia driver for your graphics card, older >6 months is perfect ^^

A quick note on graphics drivers for Nvidia RTX cards (2020-2024):

Driver change: Better remove the old one completely. Then restart and install fresh.

🚧 EasyAntiCheat (EAC errors)
It´s rare, but some players experience issues when (re-)installing the game after a long time.
Usually the game-files are OK.. Steam File Verification checked, but the game does NOT start or pops a typical .DLL-error message ^^

Don´t worry, just follow these steps..
If you installed Wildlands properly and gave both exceptions (for EAC and your game) to prevent blocking by Windows, then continue with this: 1. go into your Wildlands folder ("../Steam/steamapps/common/Wildlands/EasyAntiCheat") 2. Start "EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe" 3. CLICK "REPAIR"

🚧 Windows .dll errors (Reinstall Visual C++)

🚧 Win7 Fixes
>>> STEAM support for Win7 + Win8 stopped Jan 2024 <<<
"As of January 1 2024, Steam stopped supporting Win 7, Win 8 and Win 8.1 operating systems.
-> Existing Steam Client installations on these operating systems will no longer receive updates of any kind including security updates."
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/4784-4F2B-1321-800A

Note: UbisoftConnect (replaced Uplay in 2021) requires TLS 1.2 for Chat, handling Invites, etc
-> Until 2020 Uplay used TLS 1.0

WARNING: Win7 is not supported by newer versions of UbisoftConnect (former Uplay)
As Microsoft has officially ended support for Windows 7, newer versions of Ubisoft Connect PC are not compatible with this operating system...
https://www.ubisoft.com/en-au/help/connectivity-and-performance/article/ubisoft-connect-pc-compatibility-with-windows-7/000102431

Despite the above, it is technically possible to adjust certain system functions manually. Doing so is at your own risk, but it works. Still, don´t forget this is a WORKAROUND make sure you understand what you´re doing:
-> my brief explanation: you generate a new root-certificate, which will allow TLS functionality (namely HTTPS cipher suites UBIsoftConnect accepts via REDIRECT of the faulty endpoint) ^^

PS: What even the GitHub author does not mention is the requirement for "publicly trusted" SSL certificates to use SHA2 since 2016 - and trusted certificates require 256bit+ encryption
-> as a result it becomes obvious that it´s actually not Ubisoft´s fault Win7 is not supported!

🚧 Account issues
  • Changing a platform account linked to your Ubisoft account
When you link a platform account to your Ubisoft account, a permanent link is created between both accounts.

Platform accounts can be unlinked at any time.

However, if you decide to link a platform account to your Ubisoft account again in the future, you will only be able to re-link the same platform account you originally had connected to your Ubisoft account.

Best fps game ever made imo. Was even playable on my old i7-3770 with a gtx 1060 on high with constant 60 fps in 1080p. Currently I am running a 10850k with a RTX 3070 OC everything on very high / ultra in 3440x1440 (1440p) with a constant 80-90fps.

edit: Breakpoint @1920x1080 on Ultra the benchmark showed it was using 6442 vram with min fps 47, avg fps 66 and max fps 91

I have over 1,600 hours in Wildlands, over 1,800 in Breakpoint. I prefer Breakpoint. Both are great games. I run 4k- 3840x2160. I have no major issues in either game. except with other players on low end PC,s or high ping. Causes game stutter when in same vehicles...
Davnat původně napsal:
With settings tweaked I can get this to run at decent fps with a RX580 8GB and Ryzen 3600 I also play it on a Samsung Evo 1TB 870 SSD I get around 56-60fps all the time and graphics are really good

the game looks absolutely gorgeous now, super smooth too dunno what the fps is
just wished i'd played the game like this from the start! maybe i'll try the FPS mod now.

Great guide, I was wondering if you had the chance to try it on a Legion Go? I been playing with the settings and I think you can get stable 60fps mid to high settings. But I don't really know how to use the amd software properly to achieve it. Looking forward for an updated version in the future.

sooo what you're saying get fucked even w RTX cards... 4k custom/high/ultra
NO AA obviousy Ever for 4k, not needed.
it is what it is... 40-60fps is ok.. obviously i can uncap but not worth for sp games ever. i prefer consistency and high fidelity always.

actually it is ubisofts fault that win 7 is not supported. Origin and uplay storefronts are run by the same company for ubi and EA and are basically identical in the background just reskinned and yet EA did not have em disable win 7 support thats built in. Even EA keeps supporting win 7.

@wespe Yeah I did a lot of research when I was building my 3600/RX580 last year the 580 I got for £164 new and the 5700XT was around £300+, the 5700 had a lot of things up and down one been a lot of crashes depending on the individual, not much performance gain compared to the 580 or 590. Apart from PCI-E gen 4 which at the time most reviews say wasnt worth the upgrade

@Davnat: yes, @1080p the rx580 is top for Wildlands, just slightly below gtx1660 ;D
Funny fact, the newer rx5600xt should be ~50% ahead.. but in Wildlands and AC:Origins the 5XXX-series performs poorly.. barely 20% better @1080p ;((
