Hello everyone! I wanted to write down all I learned about Broken Age Act 1, and how everything seems to tie together. Please note, you should've atleast completed both or one of the characters stories to understand this. I hope this helps!

Introduction - Explanation to this Guide

Before you begin reading, I'd just like to let you know this Guide does contain spoilers. If you have not played the game, or have not completed both of the stories yet, please READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Every explanation is shortened just so I don't bore you guys to death if you're reading this. I've also added screenshots just to help spiffen up everything, and to make everything seem not so plain.

Shay's Story - Skimmed Through

Hello everyone, alright, so first off I'd like to explain Shay's story a little. First, Shay is a boy a ship in space, being protected by a AI Computer called 'Mom' (or the Sun) and the Dad (the Moon) in the back of the game, hardly noticed. This ship is in so called 'Space', on a mission called Dandelion, to help protect Shay from the outside world and find him a new home, and by babying him and keeping him for seeing anything.

To keep this thing from boring you to death, lets just skip ahead. One night Shay is bored of his regular routine, and meets up with a Wolf in another part of the ship. He tells Shay that there are other creatures in other planets in space calling for help, and that Shay is the one who needs to help them.


And so Shay is given a 'star chart' to give to the Weaver in the ship, to take him to new places. Shay does this, and then goes back to help the Wolf man to save the creatures.


This was the machine you used to help save the creatures. However, as the Wolf guy says its time to pull out, Shay says to save the last one. However, as he grabs it this creature falls out, or as it seems to you, escapes. The wolf guy says its no big deal.

Then he says theres another place in space thats calling for help. He gives you another star chart, you get the Weaver to go there, and you save those creatures.

Then the wolf guy says theres one more place, a dangerous place that needs saving, called Prima Doom. You get the space weaver to weave to another place, then while he's loading the place to go you weave the extra stars into the star chart for Prima Doom. You get there, and the weaver says it was a mistake, and says he'll fix it - until he has no more yarn. He breaks down, so now you're in Prima Doom.

The wolf guy tells you to do other stuff to save the creatures. You do that, then go help the wolf guy save the creatures. Theres 3. You get two, the wolf guy says to pull out now, but you say to save this last one. As you save it, the creature breaks free. Then the ship is under attack.

Shay is knocked out. And then onto Vella's story. How does this all make sense to the back story? Just wait, and read Vella's story skimthrough, and then the whole connection.

Hello everyone. This is the side of Vella's story, and this is the explanation of it.

The story starts out with Vella. She was picked for the Maidens Feast along with four other girls in her town. Before they eat the cake to celebrate in her honor, Vella has to get the knife for the cake from her Grandpa, who is hiding it. However, as you ask other people in your house about fighting the creature, 'Mog Chothra', they all think you're just crazy and nervous.

As you are waiting with the other girls, you try to get some of their items or ask them if they have something to kill Mog Chothra. All of them think you're to be the only one chosen for the feast.


As the beast comes in, you get the meat from the girl next to you, and a bird comes in, tries to get it. By now all 3 girls are gone and eaten by Mog Chothra. As Mog Chothra is about to pick you, you get hold of the bird and break free. The old lady in your house tells you to come back, but you're on the bird. (The lady is like, 84, by the way. I did the math.)

Soon you get to this other town in the clouds. But all that gameplay I'll just skip over. They just had their maidens feast, and then you get back down to the ground again. Then you meet a guy, and stuff, and then you meet another guy. (I'm trying to skim this down a little to again, not bore you guys to death.)

You end up getting to the town where Mog Chothra was supposed to come to after your town.
You end up getting in the Maidens feast there.



















As Mog Chothra takes the two girls, you use a death ray to get rid of 3 of Mog Chothras legs, with the help of this other guy. As Mog Chothra grabs you, you shoot the lazer in Mog Chothras mouth. He collapses into the water.

The Final Piece - How are Shay and Vella tied together?

This is the final piece to the guide - NOTE: YOU ARE READING THE ENDING OF ACT 1! THIS CONTAINS HUGE SPOILERS! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

After Vella takes down Mog Chothra, inside his mouth is...SHAY?!!??!

But how, why? Let me tell you friends.

During the whole time Shay was in 'space', he actually wasn't. This, in my view, was possible a decoy that the computer set up, to make it look like they were in space.

The ship that Shay was in, was in fact, Mog Chothra.



Look at these two screenshots. Do you remember how Shay 'saved' those three 'creatures' by getting them with the claws? Do you remember how the wolf man had said they were calling and he had recordings of the 'creatures' calling for help? And how Shay saved 3 of the creatures and then tried to get the last, but it fell away from the claws?

And then, remember Vella. When Mog Chothra was approaching, the girls were 'calling' for Mog Chothra to come closer and take them as the sacrafice for the maidens feast? And how 3 of them were taken, and when Vella was grabbed, she 'broke free'?

"OHHHH!" Is probably what you're thinking now. But theres more.

In the cloud town, they had just had their Maidens feast after Vella's towns, AKA the other 'area' in 'space' on the 'star chart' where Shay had 'saved' those helpless 'creatures'.

"OHHHHHHHHH!"

But the final piece is even more of the final puzzle piece.

As Shay was approaching the Prima Doom area, there was 3 'creatures' he needed to save. He had gotten 2, and then the wolf guy told him to pull out, that he shouldn't get the last 'creature', but Shay said he should. And as he grabbed the 'creature', the ship was under attack.

And outside of Mog Chothra was Vella. She had gotten the lazer shot at Mog Chothras 3 legs. Then Mog Chothra grabbed her, but she fired the lazer in Mog Chothras mouth, causing him to crash into the water.

The ship was under attack = Vella firing the lazer, causing the ship to crash and be shut down

All this time, while Shay thought he was saving helpless creatures in 'space', he was simply causing terror in towns, and also continuing the Maidens Feast. And this whole time, when Vella was trying to escape the monster Mog Chothra, and how she took it down, she was simply attacking a ship, trying to 'protect' a boy named Shay.

But if this was only for some of the newer Maidens Feasts, who had done all those other ones before? Who knows yet. We will just have to wait until Act 2.

Hallo! 3 Years from the future! Act 2 has been out for like 2 years. So... Uhhh... Yea... Back then it would be hard to figure it out so GOOD JOB!

Well, didn't the old lady at the beginning of Vella's story say a "new" Grand Mog came every 14 years? So it seems like there were multiple "ships" like Shay's... Dunno if Alex's is a dead Mog or maybe something different; the little we can see of the exterior (the death ray bit) makes it seem like it isn't, but who knows.

So what really is "Operation Dandelion", then, and who's running it?! Suspicious stuff, but we'll need Act 2 to figure it out, I bet.

Good questions, but honestly I have no idea. Like Flerovium said, perhaps they were different generations of Shay! Maybe that's why Mother Sun is so protective of Shay, because Alex maybe escaped or he got lost and she assumed he was dead, so maybe Mother Sun decided to take in another boy from the ship and treat him like Alex, but be more protective because she didn't want him to see the outside world nor for him to get lost or "die" like Alex did. Since he was in encasement for so long, perhaps it was an escape pod that crash landed or something? I have no idea honestly, but good questions.

I'm so curious how Alex and Shay are connected. Both know the mission "dandelion" - maybe they are one person? Alex seems to be a future version of Shay. If it was so, then why doesn't he remember what happened (to Shay)? In one scene at the end, Alex says that helping people is what he originally was up for with his ship. That's pretty much the same attitude as Shay's. Will Vella turn out to be the sun (and the mother of Shay)?

He's probably in some sorta simulation, and most likely is. Maybe theres oxygen things going on in there, and it looks like endless space but its not.

But how can shay go to space then? If he's inside Mog Chothra I don't see how this works.

I have an idea, that this "wolf Marek" is actually a father/moon in a wolfsuit. One time a boy asks, why he never sees father Moon during the day, and the computer answers, that he is busy. I think Computer planned this ahead: when Shay reaches a certain age, he start to as questions, to be disobedient... and so they the Computer gives him an illusion of doing something against the rules (in fact, starting to introducing him to real meachanisms of how the spaceship functions and "feeds" itself)

Maybe there are like different "generations" of Shay? Alex is pretty much just an older version of Shay.
