[Review] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Vytvořil: TheFryingPan
This is my review of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Since it is a Nintendo Switch game, I can't make a traditional review for it on Steam, so I made it this way instead.
If you have a Switch, or if you are able to / thinking about getting one, you should definitely buy this game.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the only, or at least on of the very few games, I would say is completely perfect.
This is the best game I have every played, and I think it might very well be the best game ever created.

Introduction
The Nintendo Switch is a console that came out in 2017. Multiple games were announced during the reveal of the gaming console, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was one of them.
During this time, it was one of the most hyped games, and it didn't disappoint.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was, and is still, played by a lot of people. The game received massive amounts of feedback, and got a rating of 9.7 / 10 (97%).
This is obviously an amazing score for a game, and I think it is a hint to everyone to go play the game.
If you are thinking about buying the game, hopefully this review will convince you to do so. If you already have the game, and love it as much as I do, I hope you will enjoy this review!
In case you have played the game, and didn't like it, maybe this review can convince you to give the game another chance!

There are some spoilers in this review, but they are marked as spoilers. Do not hover over the black rectangles unless you don't care about getting parts of the game spoiled.
Genre
This review starts off with the genre(s) of the game. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an Open World, Action-Adventure Singleplayer story game. There is a massive open world, filled with enemies, loot, collictibles and secrets among many other things, for you to discover and explore. As you explore the world and progress through the story, you will encounter enemies and mini bosses, explore dungeons and find many secrets and references.

This will be further explained in the next part of this review.
Gameplay
Like most Legend of Zelda games, you play as Link. In this game, he is a royal knight, and as you progress through the story and explore the world, you will level up his Sheikah Slate abilities and find more powerful weapons. The enemies themselves will also level up and become stronger as you progress through the story.

There are many missions to do, both main and side quests, to keep you occupied. There are also 120 mini dungeons (shrines) scattered across the world for you to complete. Completing all 120 shrines will result in Link being rewarded a gift by the ancient monks who created the shrines.
These mini dungeons contain different challenges. Some are Trials of Strength, where you will have to defeat opponents to complete the shrine. Some have puzzles for you to solve, and some are hidden and require a side quest to be unlocked. These side quest-shrines don't have a chalenge within them, instead the challenge is to access them.

The combat system in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is great. You can use your weapons in different ways. There are regular attacks, spin attacks and more you can do with your swords, spears, axes, clubs, halberds, crushers, and elemental weapons.
You can also use bows in combat. There are even multiple arrow types: normal, fire, ice, bomb, electric, and Ancient Arrows, which are very hard to get, but can eliminate an enemy with one hit. While using one-handed weapons, such as swords, you can use shields to protect yourself against incoming attacks.
However, your weapons (except for The Master Sword) have limited durability, which means that they will break eventually. Make sure not to break all of your weapons at the same time!
You can also use your Sheikah Slate abilities in combat (to freeze enemies, throw bombs at them, use magnetic objects to attack).

Your inventory is limited, and at first it feels like you can't carry much, but you will be able to expand it with the help of Hestu, an NPC that looks a bit like a tree. The inventory categories you can expand are weapons, bows, and shields. In the inventory you can also store fruits, vegetables, meat, rocks and minerals, monster parts and much, much more.
You can use your food items, fruits, vegetables, meat and more, to cook food, or you can eat them raw, though that is not nearly as good. Cooking the ingredients gives more HP and can also grant different buffs, such as extra attack damage, extra stamina, and more.
You can also find and buy new clothes in the game, as well as dye them any color you want.
Some clothes grant resistance to some effects, such as cold resistance, fire resistance and more.

If you don't want to explore the whole world of Hyrule on foot, you can tame up to five horses that you can keep at different stables. Any horse you store at any stable will be accessible from all stables in the game.
Graphics and Art Style
In my personal opinion, the graphics in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are amazing. The art style is unique, and everything in the game looks great.
There are villages, massive forests, mountain ranges, deserts and volcanoes, and huge open plains along with a large sea. All of these look great, and the feeling within the game and in all of the different parts of the map is amazing.
Character movement looks great both on Link and on NPCs.

The map of Hyrule is huge, and when I say huge, I mean massive. Walking from on side of the map to the other (for example, west to east) takes roughly 34 minutes. This just shows how big the map is, and you would be surprised of how many collectibles and secrets there are, even though the map is so big.
Sound and Music
The music in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has gotten some negative feedback. I personally love the sound and music in this game, as do most players.
When playing, if you stop and listen to the sounds for a minute, you will be able to tell that countless hours were put into creating unique music and feelings for each place in the world. For instance, the music changes, just a little bit, when for example leaving a forest and going to a mountain, or when the time changes. You might not have the same exact music at 8 am as you do at 3 pm.
When encountering enemies, you get the usual combat music, and when all enemies have been defeated, that music will slowly fade into the normal music.
Sometimes there are drastic changes, such as when going to the freezing parts of the world.
Everywhere you go, the music and ambient sounds give a new feeling.

Overall, I think the music and sounds in this game reflect the story and setting of the game perfectly.
Considering the lore behind the game, the music fits just right.
Story and Lore
The story of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of, if not the best story I have ever played through.
In short, there was a great battle that devastated the entirety of Hyrule, and put the main character, Link, into a 100-year coma. The game starts when Link wakes up, and has lost all of his memories.
These can be recovered by exploring the world and finding crucial parts of the story with important information.
Link must find his old friends, and with some help, regain his powers and his full strength, in order to beat four bosses, that he will then use against the final boss, and then face the final boss within the castle. Finally, just like all Legend of Zelda games, you save Zelda, and together with her you seal away the boss.
Since this is an open world game, all of this is optional. If you wanted to, you could go straight to the castle and beat the final boss instantly.

Along with the main story comes a lot of side quests. There are many different types of side quests, everything from giving an item to an NPC to buying a house and building a town.

Below is a more detailed version of the story, but it contains spoilers, so don't hover over the black rectangles if you don't want to get the story spoiled before playing.
I recommend not reading the text below if you haven't played the game, since it will be far more enjoyable when you don't know anything beforehand.

After Link wakes up, he finds himself on a desolate plateau. This is the "tutorial are", where you will find an old man who teaches you skills that are crucial throughout the game. You find out that the old man is the late king, Zelda's father. You then travel to Kakariko Village, where you meet Impa, an old frined. She tells you the story about the fight, and also about your memories. You will also receive the Champion's Tunic from her.
After that, you travel to Hateno Village and meet Purah, another old friend. She helps you boost the powers of your Sheikah Slate. You then beat the four Divine Beasts and their respective bosses in any order you want. While doing that, you also regain more memories and get told more parts of what happened before Link's coma. Link should have visited the Korok Forest by now, and recollected the Maste Sword, which he can do when he has 13 hearts. When that is done, Link has to travel to the castle and face Calamity Ganon. With the help of the four Divine Beasts and their Champions, you defeat Calamity Ganon. After that, you also have to defeat Dark Beast Ganon, which will weaken him enough to free Zelda, who then seals Ganon away. You meet up with Zelda, and that is her and Link's first encounter in 100 years.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
When it comes to strengths I don't have much to say, other than that this game is filled with them. Finding something negative about this game is a challenge. Everything from the art style, to the open world and the story is just great! I would say that basically everything in this game is a strength.

Weaknesses
Like I said, finding weaknesses for this game is hard. There is only one negative thing I can think of, which in my opinion, really isn't that big of a deal. Climbing is a huge part of this game, and the weather can sometimes make climbing a bit difficult.
While it's raining, it's almost impossible to climb. But this isn't that big of a deal. It makes you think of different routes to your destination. Instead of clibimng a mountain and gliding down, you might walk around it and explore thing you would have never known about otherwise.
There are of course situations where "walking around the problem" isn't possible. In those situations, the rain is annoying of course. However, I still wouldn't call that a weakness, but if I have to mention something here, this is the only thing I can think of.
DLC and Amiibo
The section where I explain the DLC contains spoilers both for the game's story and for the DLC story. In short, the DLCs contain new challenges, clothes, and main quests.

There is an expansion pass with 2 DLCs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The first DLC contains many collectibles, as well as clothes, and The Trial of The Sword, which allows you to power up the Master Sword to its full potential. Normally, it will have a base damage of 30 HP / hit, but on Guardians, it will have 60 Hp / hit.
Powering it up will increase its damage to 40, then 50, then 60. It will always be at max damage when you have completed all three stages.

The second DLC reveals the fifth Divine Beast. It is part of a trial created by a monk that was close to the Goddess Hylia. Link travles to the Shrine of Resurrection, where he woke up after his coma, and picks up the One-Hit Obliterator. With this, he will one-hit kill any enemy, but he is always a one-hit kill. He must beat different mini dungeons, and then get to the end where the final trial is to beat the monk himself, Monk Maz Koshia. After doing this, Link will receive the Master Cycle Zero, which is the fifth Divine Beast. This works as a substitute for a horse.

If you want to spend some money on Amiibos, you can get items within in the game, but also clothes and weapons from older Zelda games, such as the outfit and weapon of The Fierce Deity from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and more.
Numeric Score
This is the best game I have every played, and it's one of, if not the greatest game ever created. I love everything about this game, and there is not much more to say other than that it is a masterpiece!

I definitely give this game 10/10.
