Comments on Gameplay
Just a few thoughts on BG2 game play. This was my experience, this isn't intended to mean that everyone will have a similar experience or that there aren't better ways to play the game than I played it. I'm providing these observations to help provide some insight into my experience, if it helps you that's great. If you disagree or have what you think is better information on game play experience or hints, you are welcome to leave a comment with your insights or create your own guide.

I built a spreadsheet to plan and keep track of character progression.

If you figure out how much each skill costs, you can actually plan out what to spend your skill points on as you progress through the game. I use 1s where I buy a skill to add the points to my total and 0 where I plan to buy a skill, so I know I want it, but haven't bought it yet. Body Control isn't a Talent I typically buy, but I put 0s there to show it.

Skills:
Warcraft at level 4 is nice because everyone benefits from initiative and speed and there are times when it is very valuable to be able to switch weapons without ending your turn (as it does if you don't have Warcraft 4)

Perception is nice for a boost to initiative and ranged combat. I generally go to level 4 on this for all my characters as they all have ranged combat. For characters without ranged combat, I would skip this skill.

Spells:
Honestly there was only one spell that I used constantly - Cold Shock Lvl 4. Many battles can be won in 2 turns using this spell only if you give it Cassia and Zuburan.

In certain situations I also found the following spells useful
Balm of Healing (up to lvl 3)

Fireball (lvl 1) for lighting stuff of fire, exploding gas pockets, breaking bridges, and the occasional quest that requires you to set something on fire.

Wrath of Elements (lvl 2) is handy for knocking down clusters of enemies, and breaking stuff including bridges without setting it on fire (this is useful if you need to move through the destroyed debris since if you fireball you will take burn damage when you move through the debris)

Move as Lightning (lvl 3) - there are some areas where moving very quickly to an objective is most important. Between casting this on your team and casting Cold Shock lvl 4 on enemies, you will get to stuff quickly and they will move slowly.

Frenzy (lvl 1) to cast on casters in the back lines so they don't cast spells on you and instead attack their allies.

There are other spells that can be useful, but honestly these are the only spells I ever used.

Combat:
I got melee and ranged combat for everyone, and spells for Cassia and Zuburan. You have plenty of points to do all 3 on Cassia, you have to be a little more selective on Zuburan, and for the other two it's easy to afford melee and ranged of 100 plus special maneuvers by end game.

Follow-up on previous comment: It's not the Black Mage's Hood that's missing; it's the Cowl of the Yellow King (Yellow King set = Adamant boss fight). It did drop in Duyar City...due to me plundering the City with the Silent Legion.

So: The Yellow King's Raiment is incompatible with "the Saint" achievement? A pity. :(

Very nice guide, especially regarding equipment locations! Although the Black Mage's Hood doesn't seem to readily drop for me, for some reason...is there some dialogue/tactical choice needed to get it at Cuoris? (i.e., pillage the city?)
