My recommendations:
* Make sure your CPU can achieve a base of AT LEAST 4.2 GHz. It will be easier to reach the goal, and be less stressful on your components.
* Go in increments. Increments of -1 is best, but you could try steps of -2 or -3 if your system is powerful enough.
* Make sure it's well cooled. Water cooling is best, but if it's not an option, then keep your computer in a well ventilated area and get plenty of fans in it. You can also invest in a PC case with more vents built in.
What I achieved with a negative 16 on my 5950x using cpuz benchmark.
